Disney Looking at a Boy Meets World sequel

That promo makes it seem pretty good, but the fucking laugh track is what's going to kill it for me. They should have shot it Malcolm In the Middle-style, as the writing seems quite sharp.

Was Boy Meets World filled with overacting in the early years? I'm sure it eventually got there, but not sure about those early seasons. Something seems off about that promo. Maybe it's just the lighting. I mean, you'd absolutely never find lighting like this on a Disney show these days:

It looks like a standard sitcom. There absolutely was overacting in early Boy Meets World. Watch some clips of it on youtube; you'll see.

What throws me off is how colorful and crystal clean everything looks. Then again i don't watch kid shows anymore so this could be standard now a days. The promo reminds me of the first season of BMW which is pretty neat.

Farkle. LMAO

The first season (maybe second too?) of Boy Meets World was dreadful. I went back and tried to watch it and just skipped to their early teen years.

Hm. That's weird. I'd've said the first season is the best. Father Knows Less, Kid Gloves, Father / Son Game, On the Fence. That's some good stuff.

Yea the lighting and stuff just throws me off, maybe becuase I'm so used to the old BMW. But the writing actually seemed pretty similar to me. The daughter is kind of spot on as a Cory.

Yeah, that full trailer looked really really bad. Not sure what I expected though, what with it being a Disney Channel show for kids and all.

Yeah. I don't think any of us are in any place to really pass judgement for anything other than nostalgic reasons.

It just looks like something that should be on one of those networks now. I have no idea what the spectrum of quality there is, but I'd imagine it's very low.

I thought the trailer was funny. Better than Hannah Montana, Sonny with a Chance and the likes. Wizards of Waverly Place is still the best.

So I watched the trailer again....who the hell are Maya's parents? No, where are they? Just watching the trailer gives you that idea that she's always at Riley's house. Also, does anybody else like Maya more than Riley at the moment? There's just something about Riley's acting that I don't enjoy.

Agreed.

Good Luck Charlie recently ended, I thought it was pretty good, better than some "adult" sitcoms.

Like the best friend character in every sitcom ever. Why would they talk about Maya's parents in a trailer, they're not part of the main cast. They'll definitely be mentioned and probably show up at some point but they have no place in the series trailer.

Outside of Corey now taking on the role of Mr. Feeney, the show just seems like it's trying so hard to be an exactly mirror of the original (not including the Disney channel using their ridiculous sitcom set designs).

I feel like this show would have just had so much more potential if it had aired on ABC (or even ABC Family) instead. 9:45 is a really, really stupid time to premiere a brand new show. Because people that might be interested in the show have a high chance of being in the middle of another show during that time. The only thing I like about that time is that it's closer to 10 which leads me to believe Disney thinks the show might be a little to adult for its regular audience.

I'm hoping the show surprises me. It doesn't look terrible so far but some of the casting choices, the set design, and channel of choice decisions have irked me every step of the way.

The original show didn't even reveal Shawn lived in a trailer until the second season.

They show a movie from 8pm to 9h45. They'll combine Girl Meets World with a high profile movie. And of course, there will be a lot of repeats.

I don't think it's been mentioned yet but Harley from the original series is the school janitor. It might be the same actor.

Show twist: Riley ends up with Farkle.

after he invents a booth to transform into Fabio
Urkel was Corey's penpal. It could happen!

Full House and Step by Step also exist in a universe with time-travel and teleportation. Think about it!

It's still a terrible time to premiere a new show. A lot of the people interested in this show do not watch the Disney channel.

Yes, Danny McNulty is back.

Hahaha, holy shit. I just checked his IMDB profile. Dude literally stopped acting on film and TV after BMW and he suddenly reappears in 2014 for GMW. I love it.

I thought about something, so far the cast seems to be mirroring the BMW kids, Riley is Cory, Maya is Shawn, Farkle is Minkus and Lucas is Topanga (already out of the granola crunching hippie phase).
What if they make Lucas gay? It would stop a repeat of the cory/topanga story and change the dynamic between the characters because the cute guy is definitely not a love interest for the main character. A gay character on a kids show is something I could see Girl meets World doing if the Disney channel isn't too scared of the backlash.
They did have a lesbian couple on Good luck Charlie but only in a guest role in the final season but that at least shows that they're not generally opposed to gay people on their shows.

People already interested in the show will find it no matter what and will probably watch one of the online previews before it premieres on air. Premiering after an original movie is a good way to get people into the show who don't know it's coming. Don't these DC movies usually have great ratings, that would make it an awesome lead in.

The Farkle/Minkis kid seems like he's probably gay.

Whatever TV movie is playing before GMW is not going to be a big deal.

Meh, I think Riley figuring out during the first season that her crush is gay would be better.
Farkle looks like the comic relief character, the weirdo etc., I wouldn't like him to be gay too. Make one of the cool kids gay, otherwise the gay stereotypes they'd probably be using with farkle would just become cheap jokes. Farkle sits like a girl. *giggle* and look at his limp wrist. *snort* He's crushing on Lucas?! Bahahahaha, as if he ever had a chance.

No, thanks.

This is the Disney channel. They get a bad rep for the way they handle stereotypes but they fucking tip-toe on glass when it comes to gayosexuality.

They're playing Tangled next week, so it could be a big deal.

Maybe. But I'm picturing a Disney head envisioning a double whammy that involves people tuning into the new Disney Channel original and following up with GMW. Friday night is a death trap as it is. I can't picture Friday night at 9:45 on Disney being anything but terrible.

Just noticed Disney is airing reruns of BMW in preparation of GMW. It's not every episode in order, more like a greatest hits.

But for those hoping Girl Meets World would have any kind of "edge" to it, I see they edited Topanga's "I will kill you!" line from this scene: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PRLuQNoXicY

Man, this new show reeeally should've been on ABC/Family instead...

Anyone ever notice that clothing on these shows are always so bright and colorful... Same applies to even a show like Big Bang Theory...

Theme song seems in-line with what today's kids would listen to (not that I would listen to the theme song for the old one).

This is premiering on streaming on Wednesday, right?

Not writing it off immediately, but those promos just make it look like every other Disney sitcom.

I was hoping that this show would tackle some hard issues with today's kids (cyber bullying, safe sex, etc) instead of lolgoofykidsdoinggoofythings.

My guess is that they will evolve it into eventually tackling some of those. Not everything but at least stuff like cyber bullying.

That intro song is really good.

It surprises me to this day that Smart Guy tackled this issue of pedophiles. That was pretty bold for Disney. Hopefully this show is bold enough to tackle tough issues as well ( It won't be )

I think they should have an episode about having too high of expectations....

Theme song's not half-bad when you consider it'll be cut. Full thing is but too repetitious.

I wouldn't expect anything Disney Channel puts out to tackle more serious things. I see a lot of it due to living with younger siblings, and I think the biggest thing they've touched upon in the past five years was... Uh... Well, I can't even remember.

It's already on Google Play All Access.

They had the lesbian couple earlier this year in Good Luck Charlie.

I caught the OG show a couple days ago on tv. Brought back awesome memories and made me realize they would never make the show like the original again :(

I'm starting to question why they went with Girl Meets World when there already so many freaking shows starring girls in this style and demographic. Maybe it'll be a hit, I don't know.
