This sucks so bad. Outside of Star Wars, this is the only Disney movie I wanted to see in the future.
Now with the recent news it can be looked at symbolically.Dammit....I was ready to go back to the Grid....I freaking loved that world.
Also, during my early neogaf lurker days, I was hyped for the movie after seeing someone have this as their animated avatar:

I like how people are gushing about the music and visuals but saying jack shit about the plot, characters and acting...

What the? I remember when Tron Legacy came out, GAF pretty universally deemed it underwhelming and moved on quickly.
Did I walk into some weird alternate universe or is everyone in this thread new to GAF post 2011?

Really want more of this universe, Uprising was exponentially better than Legacy but nobody watched. It was disappointing because I didn't think three was happening, then there were rumblings earlier this year of the band getting back together and got my hopes up. Just expect your Marvel/Star Wars/Live action fairy tail reimagining a for the next ten years or so from the Disney umbrella.
Maybe you should go see Tomorrowland then? You know, if it would be because people don't go to an original movie, maybe in stead of moa ing you should support that movie?
Tomorrowland isn't perfect, but waaaaay better then Tron Legacy ever was.
Also to reiterate an earlier point, is Disney really going to give Pirates more when they could turn Tron into something huge?
Pirates is a billion dollar franchise. The fourth movie did a billion, IIRC
Was there gonna be a CLU 3.0?
And I have to wonder how "incredible" the final product would've actually been with the same director working on it.

In regards to the animated -> live action films, they don't seem to offer much at all. Cinderella was just.. well.. Cinderella. An expensive movie to make with a top-billed cast that doesn't do much. I get it's for kids but come on.
Maleficent was pretty dope though.
What's The King's Speech? How were the music and visuals in The King's Speech? Not as good as Tron? Must be shit then.
Film as a medium has many more angles than those, try harder next time.
Why wouldnt they do Cinderella and Pirates over Tron when they make more money? Thats the only "potential" that matters to Disney.
“We had never greenlit the movie, but it was in development for some time,” said one Disney executive, discussing the sensitive decision to table the project. “Things in the queue got ahead of it and we have such a big slate out in front of it, we started to think, ‘Where does it go?’ And it’s a pretty big investment to make if you are not even sure when you are going to release it.”
Disney was hoping to make the third “Tron” film for about the cost of the second, which had a budget of $170 million. It was expected that “Tron: Legacy” director Joseph Kosinki would return to direct a new film, with Olivia Wilde and Garrett Hedlund to star. Preliminary preparations had been made in anticipation of filming in Vancouver, Canada.
When Disney looked out at its release horizon, though, it did not see a likely spot for the new “Tron” film. Walt Disney Pictures already has “Jungle Book,” another “Pirates of the Caribbean” installment, “Alice in Wonderland, “Pete’s Dragon” and “Beauty and the Beast.” And that’s not to mention other highly-anticipated projects, like director Tim Burton’s “Dumbo,” and a raft of mega-pics that are on the way from Disney’s premium-label subsidiaries — Pixar, Lucasfilm and Marvel.
Helena Bonham Carter gonna be in at least three of those. Tim Birton gonna get paid.Apparently the film was cancelled because they had a crowded movie slate coming up and didn't know where to put it.
Crowded schedule means Tron 3 is put on ice....and the four live-action remakes of existing Disney adaptations (Dumbo, Mulan, Winnie-the-Pooh, and Pinocchio) they announced during the past two months will be spared.
Priorities.

Count me as one of those who hasn't seen the original Tron (yet), but liked Legacy and would had loved to see a sequel
The first Tron is a very, very, very pretty movie. Despite the poor acting and generic plot, I think the visuals are imaginative enough that I can understand why people would be enamored.Neither Tron was that good tbh, I'm surprised people wanted Tron 3 so badly!

But Legacy? I don't see it. All the changes to the digital world make it look less interesting and memorable than it did in Tron, and it doesn't help that as Bobby Roberts said, the novelty is lost when this is a sequel obviously playing on nostalgia for the original movie.
There is nothing wrong with bringing something mediocre back to make something truly great. What the? I remember when Tron Legacy came out, GAF pretty universally deemed it underwhelming and moved on quickly.

Imagine if Street Fighter II never happened because SFI was so bad
Granted, the reason Capcom kept making the series was probably because SFII and its ports made billions of dollars. First and foremost though, it was much more fun to play that SFI.What if Street Fighter II happened and it was only barely better than Street Fighter?
That's the comparison here.

What does that make Tron Uprising?
If I were Lindelof, I would delete my Twitter account and get off the internet. The torches and pitchforks are coming.Tomorrowland, Lindelof...YOU FUCKERS!
Glad Kosinski isn't wasting his time on another of these.
Dude hasn't hit a movie out of the park yet, but he sure as hell is talented and could produce something special with the right script.
C'mon son. Don't be that guy.
Cancelled for remakes.
lol
