I should elaborate that the Tangled Ever After is JUST A SHORT - not like, an animated series or something. Sorry if anyone got that impression.
Seems fair, then.

I was going to say, if she doesn't have that long hair, can you really call it Tangled? But if it's just a short, not a direct-to-DVD shitfest, then I guess that's not terrible.

It's sort of like DLC, then, haha.

Whatever you guys do don't go to wdwmagic. There are some good people there but unfortunatly all of the mods there are right-wing fanatics and pro-big business and will ban anyone who complains too much about Disney. Even yesterday when people were very disappointed with the theme park presentation the people who run the site immediatly went into spin mode saying how people are dumb to expect new announcements after everything Disney has been building in the past few years. The only reason I go to that site anymore is because Eddie Sotto, a very respected former imagineer, has a topic which he writes in every so often and there are a few insiders there who leak good nuggets once in awhile.

Micechat has a double standard but its probably the only disney site aside from laughingplace where you can speak your mind without getting dogpiled by idiots.

For my money, Buena Vista Street is the most exciting thing happening at California Adventure.
Absolutely. I might visit just to see the Red Cars.

DCA 2.0 will definitely be better than 1.0, but I think they overdid it on the character infusions this time around.

It's just like all the shorts that Pixar would make for the DVDs featuring the characters from the movie. No one should be worked up about this.

Speak your mind? On Micechat? Only if you're a CM in the park.

Ive been a member since the site went live and I always say what I want and haven't been repremanded. The worst that happened was I lost "reputation" when I badmouthed fat people in the park.

On Laughingplace and WDWmagic on the otherhand I've been banned many times.

There are a two parts to the answer.

1. WDI can't do anything on a budget. The Winnie the Pooh ride built at Disneyland cost about $30 million. The Little Mermaid ride that just opened at California Adventure cost $100 million.

Now compare that to, in my opinion, the best theme rides on the planet: The Amazing Adventures of Spider-man and Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. Both attractions cost ~$75 million to build.

So who's getting their monies worth?

There are lots of times that Team Disney Orlando or Team Disney Anaheim will go to WDI and say, "We have this parcel of land in Frontierland, what do you have for us?"

WDI returns with some plans and the cost is outrageous for what they're building. So nothing gets built.

Funny, I check WDWMagic mostly and it's the exact reverse opinion for TDO - they're always the ones doing wrong and WDI never gets what it wants.

Oh shit! is that official then? I remember its been a rumor since the DCA redo got announced.

It would have been better if they used Oswald for this statue so that DCA kinda becomes the "alternate universe" version of Disneyland and makes guests go "whaaa?"

Yup it's on the Parks Blog:
A new statue of Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse will be featured on Buena Vista Street when it opens in 2012. Walt Disney Imagineering unveiled a maquette similar to the one pictured above, showing what the statue will look like. In this Q&A with the Disney Parks Blog, Ray Spencer, creative director for Buena Vista Street, explains the story behind the remarkable statue.
How does this statue help tell the story of Buena Vista Street?
It is a young Walt Disney as you would have seen him when he just stepped off the train from Kansas City in 1923, arriving in California to pursue his dreams. The street is set in the time period between 1923-1937, the time when Walt arrived and subsequently innovated, risked and created the studio that is the origin of all that The Walt Disney Company has become. He is located on the ground, not on a pedestal or planter, so that he is accessable to guests – “one of us.” Early Los Angeles (Buena Vista Street) is Walt’s land of opportunity and dreams at this time, and metaphorically it is for our guests as well!
Tell us what is going on in the scene depicted in the statue.
Walt has just arrived in California from Kansas City, and as he looks around in wonder and optimism, the world is his oyster to realize his dreams.
The statue is also an amalgam of young Walt and early Mickey Mouse. Mickey Mouse – although not created until after Walt’s arrival in Los Angeles – was, according to story, created on a train and was part of Walt’s travels and his muse, and is a fitting travel partner.
How does this statue compliment the iconic Partners statue at Disneyland park?
It could be considered a “bookend” in that in Disneyland park, the Partners statue is a mature Walt and Mickey, already wildly successful and the guests are the benefactors of their effort. Walt has realized his dreams and is sharing with us. Also, the Partners statue is more of a “monument” at Disneyland park.
In Disney California Adventure park, the statue is of young Walt as he arrived in Los Angeles, and at this point in time nobody knew who he was. He is one of us, and his optimism and enthusiasm are yet to be proven. In a way at this point in his life he is “everyman” but you can see it on his face, and in Mickey’s, that through this remarkable individual’s dreams and efforts, something great is going to happen.
How did you decide on the placement of the statue?
We wanted it in the new Hub, facing the center and on the street corner, so that he is one of our guests. We also wanted him near the Carthay Circle Theatre so that he could be part of that scene as well.
The statue maquette is on display this weekend at the Parks & Resorts Pavilion at the D23 Expo and will later be seen in the Blue Sky Cellar at Disney California Adventure park.

roflmao I didn't think about that. Speaking of electronica, I'm really looking forward to seeing it for myself when i move back to California in the next few months.

Well TDO is run by nitwits and incompetents, but they're not wrong about WDI's budgets being out of control.

I know they're completely different divisions, and likely never talk to each other outside of tie-ins, but does anyone else feel a bit cheated by Wreck-it Ralph given what's been going down lately at Disney Interactive? They're making a film that seemingly celebrates video games, while at the same time putting those who actually make them out of work.

where did you see/hear that it was going to be hand drawn? google isnt helping.
Working where I do I get lots of industry people coming through my line, one of which was a girl who's working on it. Unless there are two Tangled shorts in production and they haven't announced the 2D one. Oops.

Edit: How do you know it isn't hand drawn? Did teu show a clip? If they did then perhaps they are working on two. Oh dear.

Yea nothing was announced it being hand drawn, but thanks for the tip. Also i take it you work in the animation industry?

I must say I'm glad Pete isn't directing the dinosaur film (as I was fearing), he probably would've somehow have spun it into a creationist film.

I wish! And I'm working on it. I do have lots of friends and acuatences at the different studios though since I live in Burbank and work where they all shop.

I just happened to ask one girl what she was working on and she said a new Tangled short. I asked if it was 3D and she said it was hand drawn. So we'll have to wait and see!

But really when a ride costs around $100million it shouldn't come down to TDO/TDA it should be down to Burbank and really what is $100million for Disney anyway, you gotta spend money to make money.

In that case it will be interesting to see how it turns out.

Both of the Pixar projects sound pretty cool, from the extremely little we have heard of them. Glad they aren't sequels, as some people around here had feared.

Wreck-It Ralph sounds omg so good.

Apparently there will be a kart racing scene

I'm abit concerned though that they have not announced any WDAS projects beyond Wrek-It-Ralph (which was already announced previously). I hope Disney isn't going to use the box office gross of that film to determine wether or not to close the animation studio. I know they are working on other projects but at an extremly slow pace and its all very vague. So far Disney's own movies haven't really done well at the box office.

So aside from some movie announcements, can we expect any new park announcements (rides, hotels, ect) for either WDW or DL?

The park presentation was yesterday but unfortunately they didn't announce anything new. Just reiterated fantasyland expansion for Florida, cars land for California, and the new hawaii resort.

And they also talked a bit more about Shanghai right? Or was that something else?

Not really a park announcement, but I read on micechat, that a question was asked to a WDI about the Yeti in DAK, and the WDI said they will be doing a repair on it. It won't be back to 100% like it was when the ride first opened (that would require a tear down of the entire mountain), but it will be better than the Yeti's current state.

I don't think the Yeti will ever be 100% again.

A shame, as I've never seen the thing in motion in person.

Only disco yeti.

I know it'll never be 100%. I had mentioned that to get it to 100% they need to tear down the mountain to fix it properly.

I can say that I was lucky to see it at 100% and man it was awesome. When the Yeti would swipe at you as you flew by, it was a sight to see. So cool.

The whole situation with expedition everest is really pathetic. Poorly designed built on the cheap and now impossible to repair. Would it have killed them to budget properly and include multiple encounters with the yeti instead of relying on 1 quick show scene at the end.

Wrong and wrong, unfortunately the animtronic company who built the yeti didn't have nearly enough fluid in it. The only thing that will save the yeti even though it's an expansion to the theme park including another e-ticket ride so they don't lose capacity at the park. Which may be sooner than most people realise aka fixed for the 50th.

Watch this, it's the making of Expedition Everest.

And no it wasn't built on the cheap.

I'm glad that Ronnie Del Carmen is co-director Docter's new film. Nice to see him rising up the ranks at Pixar.

Man that's a whole 'lot of Pete Docter.

Were any writers announced?

Most excited for the Dinosaur movie.
Eh?
The only Pete Docter film in production is the 'inside the mind' one.
Michael Arndt is writing it.

The issue with the Yeti is that his foundation is cracked, and I guess for some reason when they were building it they never did any substantial stress testing on it. If they kept the AA running on his original program, where he swipes everytime you fly by, eventually the base would have cracked completely and the AA would have toppled over onto the track or onto a train. Disney decided to shut it down, throw a strobe light in there and when you fly by, the strobe effect makes it look like he is moving.

I wish they had the ability to fix it, but as I have said in other posts, that would require the removal of the entire mountain, and Disney is sure as hell not going to do that, unless they build another E-Ticket attraction to keep guests occupied, while EE goes down for at least an 18mon rehab, maybe longer...

Are we expecting more news on Marvel movies at the Marvel panel in a little while? I'm curious as to what Marvel movies are coming after The Avengers, besides the already announced sequels.
