I couldn't get into the first Dissidia. But 012 looks so awesome. What's changed in the sequel to convince me to get the second game? Anyone?

- World map
- Assist characters
- Vann, Kain, Lightning, Tifa, Laguna, Prishe, Gilgamesh
- Refined combat system

I don't know what else to add.

Well if you didn't like the combat in the first game, then you're not going to be happy.

Everyone from the first game has gotten new moves and/or rebalancing on their older moves. Combos and infinites that were possible in the first game are probably not going to be possible in the second. Then there's the new Assist feature, which lets you bring in someone for a Brave or HP attack, and I think they can stop attacks as well.

I haven't actually payed too much attention to the single-player stuff, so maybe someone else can fill you in on it.

I actually like the combat in the first game, but that chess board nonsense turned me off. Glad to hear that Nomura has done away with it. Guess I'll take the old Dissida into Gamestop and reserve 012 tomorrow.

Yeah....about that. When you enter dungeons on the world map, you go into the tile based level again.

In order of obviousness:
Actual monsters instead of the fighting polygon team
4-6 player team battles, give that lock-on button a use
More Chaos sided characters like Xande or anyone from XI
More non-playable assists, don't just leave it at Aerith
Crono

Gilgamesh's EX-burst at the end of the video is pretty funny.

On a related note, I am really looking forward to this game. I already pre-ordered at Gamestop for my KH-version Cloud. Personally, I'm really looking forward to playing as Yuna. I like her as a character, and the fact that she fights solely using summons looks very interesting and fun. Gilgamesh looks pretty cool, as well.

Which new character are you folks looking forward to playing?

Yuna game play looks so boring, shoulda made her FFX-2 Yuna, or given her better Aeons, get Anima, Magus Sisters, Yojimbo in this bitch.

Out of the newbies, I'm really looking forward to trying out Kain, Tifa, Yuna, and Lightning. And I agree, Yuna looks like she'll be a blast. I always had a soft spot for the summons in X.

As for the veterans, I'll stick with Cloud since I've heard they've made significant improvements to his play style. Plus, pairing him with a Tifa assist is too awesome. Other favorites were Gabranth, Cecil, and Bartz, so they should be fun to revisit as well.

Holy shit, is that video where Yuna is fighting Prishe the place where you fight Promathia at the end of the Chains of Promathia campaign? Holy shit.

Anima would have been perfect for the finishing HP attack with her EX-burst. Not a big deal, though. I like Yuna and the summons enough to be satisfied with what we get.

God dammit, I really wanted to put off buying Duodecim until it went on sale, but Prishe's presence is really tugging my wallet away from me >_<!

SHE'S SO AWESOME! I love her :D

A new rep from VI and IX. Once again fuck you SE.

I can't think of anyone else i would want from VI, but god dammit IX is a missed opportunity.

Edgar? Master of Tool. I would love to see him cutting people down with chainsaw, and his other tools.

FFIX, I don't mind to see Vivi, Quina or Beatrix.

Maybe they are saving Anima for next game, so they can give it to Seymour.

When I heard about Yuna I thought the summons would be something more akin to assist characters who have very basic AI. I'm disappointed that her summons work just like every other spell in the game. :(

I guess it's because I didn't really like VI much.
ohgodpleasedon'thurtthispoorjunior
I hope that there even IS a "next game."

I can see Beatrix being a good selection due to more females, and possible villain. I don't know what her "style" would be though. Quina would only have a unique style and I don't want it anywhere near this game unless it was something of an Aerith like assist. Vivi would be awesome because he could possibly be a villain as well but I can't think of a "style" of his own. The one to remedy all of that, imo, would be Amarant. Could play a villain, interesting style of play mixing throwing weapons with claw attacks and uses of his flair skills.

Is totally not an Amarant fan.

Vivi could probably move around like Shan does, and he could also make use of his Focus ability. Doublecast is already used by two characters, so I can't see why they wouldn't let Vivi get it as well. Plus I'd love to see Doomsday as a fully fleshed-out EX Burst.

FFIX is one of my favorite FF series, so anyone from the game getting in is fine with me.

I suspect that we might looking at characters that might be DLC, since most of fighting games have dlc content.

Yeah but he'd start to become too much like Shan, and it'd just be boring. Honestly I want more people with unorthodox weapons, that's what I love about FF the fact that you usually get at least one person with a crazy ass weapon in a game: A ball, nunchaku, claw, I think that one kid in XIII had a boomerang or some shit. Keeps things interesting and not always sword/gun/staff/magic kinda stuff.

@above poster: Yeah but this is SE, I could see downloadable costumes and at most assists. Fully playable characters doesn't seem plausible but I would love it if they would do a few of them, I won't get my hopes up though :(.

I'm pretty sure they can definitely find a way to make Vivi or Quina work. Plus, Quina's a Blue Mage... pretty sure there's not many (if any) of those in already.

Technically there's one, if you count Bartz. But I sure don't. >:(

Vivi would be hard to do so but if they can then by all means, I just don't like Quina though.

Eh, I only brought up Quina because of the possible moveset potential. I'm more partial to Beatrix myself, but I don't think she would be chosen over Vivi, or shit, even Steiner.

The FFV Gilgamesh looks like it is an alt costume. It's not the one from that video. The one in the video actually looks like it is based on this artwork:

http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/_...5_Gilgamesh.jpg/297px-200px-FF5_Gilgamesh.jpg
Which is the FFV Gilgamesh (it even says so in the file name :p).

Andriasang posted an article about Gilgamesh and the various alternatives costumes.

http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2011/02/25/dissidia_gilgamesh_update/

About the design:
Nomura revealed that at the time of FFV's creation, Gilgamesh's sprite art was created first before Yoshitaka Amano created the character's image art. This is the reason the design for the character's sprite art and illustration differ so much. As mentioned above, they made the character's sprite design appear in Duodecim as his third form costume.

How Gilgamesh works in battle:
Kujiraoka explained some of the gameplay concepts for the character. Similar to Butz, Gilgamesh brings out a weapon with each attack, then puts it back after the attack. However, the weapon Gilgamesh uses is random. He selects one of eight vastly different weapons with each attack.

With this random system in place, it may seem like the character would be tough to use, but Kujiraoka assured that this isn't the case. He also assured that they're making adjustments to the character so he won't just be a joke character.

Asked for some weapon examples, Kujiraoka mentioned Excalibur and the impostor weapon Excalipoor. Excaluibur will make Gilgamesh's attacks double strength. Excalipoor, as one might expect, deals just 1 damage.
