DivX on Xbox 360 "in discussion with MS" (DivX CEO)

am I somehow supposed to be disappointed because one company forced another company to do something due to competition?
I love it that Sony and MS are trying to one up each other, to me that is one of the best things about this generation, the constant bullet-point fighting, price wars and work to get consumers attention.

Thats definitely the upside for having no clearcut winner in the console wars.

i didn't mean to start a godam pissing contest in this thread, its just the fact that the home video plus the interview with the ps3 firmware programmers pretty much confirmed that they were looking into supporting different formats, plus the fact that divx and ms are talking about it while sony and divx already signed a deal pretty much confirms sony was first at trying to get divx.

hopefully ms will support divx on the xbox, but they do have WMV to push and sony never had a video codec to push

To be honest I can't belive PS3 didn't support divx\xvid right out of the box, seems it would be right up their alley and detrementle to Microshaft at the same time.

Agreed. This pretty much proves that MS had no plans of doing DivX until they found out PS3 was doing it.

In fact, when divx/xvid shows up on the fall dashboard update, it's obviously MS freaking out over the Sony announcement and cutting and pasting the dlls over.

Nooo... don't cut and paste, you'll break the dev machine!

now imagine how many emails MS gets now from "angry" owners demanding divx due to PS3 having it :-).

I doubt people will have to wait too long. :D

If MS gets DivX on the 360, would that pretty much make XBMC obsolete?

I feel like I am posting the same questions on both DivX threads here, but I just want whichever HD system I get to be able to replace my softmodded xbox!

XBMC still beats the pee out of 360 and PS3 in every area except high-def and newer codecs. I sure wish Sony or MS would hire those guys.

Nah, xbmc supports more codecs and xbox isn't as loud as 360 is.

:/ you do realize that Windows XP also has it's own Media Center extender, right? and you can stream divx encoded contents through WMP?
yeah, of course i realize that. but to me it sounds like "vista will allow" which means "we're not necessarily planning to add it to the XP version, so buy the vista version!"

It wouldn't even come close
