DJ Hero demand "well below" expectations

Oh i know about the "Value Bundle" thats not the Actual beatles bundle. Its a bundle with Rock Band 1 instruments. (The same instruments that go for 20 bucks at retail).
Seeing as how it's a band kit that includes the Beatles game I think it qualifies as an "actual Beatles bundle".

lol no it's not. TB:RB = $250

Uh, except it is. You're not forced to buy the special edition $250 bundle. There is a $140 bundle available as well, using older instruments.

That is still a bundle. And it's a new game. Do you honestly think Band Hero's instruments are going to be updated in any special way? It'll be the same shit.

The drum kit is updated from the WT kit. The Guitar is the Guitar 5 guitar which is updated from their WT gear. You arent getting 2 year old hardware like the "Value bundle".

The new drums look good and I'm a strong hater of the GH:WT drums. I don't see how bundling the old crappy instruments no one wants to use qualifies being a TB:RB bundle. If you want to talk about instruments not being updated, look no further than the $250 Beatles bundle drums.

I'm surprised this isn't doing so well. It was named best Wii game of E3 by GameTrailers.
$120 is a lot of money to spend on one game right now. Hell, there are people in this forum dumpster diving for food.

:lol I know, right? Who the hell expected this to sell beyond a certain niche?

It's like IIDX selling here. Not going to happen.

Hopefully this is a trend that the "Hero" franchise needs to take a big step back, let a few years go by without five fucking releases a year on it and reinvent/rebrand itself.

But the only thing Activision has is brand recognition if they lost that then they would have to develop "Hero" games that could be in some way associated with "quality" and "value."

Yeah, DJ Hero was made in 6 months by a couple of kids on work experience.

Man, Freestyle Games is getting no love around here it seems. At least Giantbomb seems to appreciate them.

DJ Hero tanking is like a win-win quadruple play:

1. It means I'll get the game on the cheap soon enough
2. It will help putting and end to the boom of cheap plastic accessories
3. It will slap some sense back to the Hero portfolio, of which Band Hero will be the ultimate flop
4. Activision lol

I think Band Hero is going to do surprisingly well. Kids love Taylor Swift and the Spice Girls.

5. Awesome dev team that tried to do something different who started long before Activision acquired them and actually made it work out okay and just happens to get a Hero name slapped onto it gets canned by Activision. So Activision just decides to make more Guitar Hero games instead.

Yeah, real win there.

Band Hero is what all you people should be bitching about.

But no, lets have 3 pages dedicated to DJ Hero.

Excusing the stupid name, Band Hero is a good idea. At least it's actively trying to do something different with it's setlist and appeal to different people. If you're gonna complain about ANYTHING, lets make it GH:VH or GH:SH.

But...DJ Hero...my most impressions and from what I've played...is a good game. How is DJ Hero not trying to appeal to a different audience. Shit, 3/4 of the people on GAF love GH/RB because it's rock. Well, I don't give a shit about rock. My tastes are more in line with this game, so to me they are trying to appeal to a different audience because they are appealing to my tastes.

So we have 3 threads dedicated to the hoping and wishing of failure upon a good game.

I thought it was an average game at best, so now we have 3 pages dedicated to the hoping that a game that is average at best fails.

Apparently Kotick didnt realise you can run brands into the ground.

Fads are by definition a limited quantity. The pretend music thing would pass no matter what they did. The question is just how to squeeze the most money out of it while it lasts.

Average is 70. This game is better than a 70. I think so, and game reviewers think so.

So therefore my previous statement applies.

Yes but a C is also average and metacritic translates that into a 50 which is below the 70 average you presented, therefore my previous statement applies too. :P

edit: Plus the only "reviewers" , as they are anymore qualified than anyone else, that agree with you are IGN, and well that's a whole other thread.

Band Hero is the big problem here. That's the "okay, too much" point of no return. A little rant from me, if anyone cares to read.

Activision in 2009:
Guitar Hero: Smash Hits
Guitar Hero On Tour: Modern Hits
Guitar Hero: Metallica
Guitar Hero 5
DJ Hero
Band Hero
Guitar Hero: Van Halen

EA in 2009:
Rock Band Unplugged
The Beatles: Rock Band
LEGO Rock Band

I honestly don't mind the band games. Metallica was a very good game. But then they did Van Halen, a game so half assed and behind the times that it shouldn't even exist. Aside from not being able to import the songs into GH5, it's missing multiple features from Metallica and GH5. And it's going to be a full priced $60 fucking game. That hurts the genre.

DJ Hero is a game that should be happening. It's unique enough to stand out and it's really good. But of course, they're getting greedy and putting the price too high.

If that were the only game coming out this fall from Activision, I think people would be far less annoyed. Instead, only ONE week later, Band Hero is coming out. Activision is now forcing people to get the more family friendly game if they want the complete new instrument set. That's obviously why they didn't do a GH5 bundle. And on top of that, the bundle is now more expensive than the WT bundle was last year.

The worst part about Band Hero is that no one knows what the fuck it even is. I can't tell you how many customers have asked me what it is. They know of Guitar Hero and Rock Band, so what could Band Hero possibly be? I explain it's a more family friendly radio-pop-music-driven game but it's not like the title tells you that. They should have just done track packs. The gameplay is identical to GH5, isn't it?

At least with LEGO Rock Band, you know just by the title or the box art that it is Rock Band for younger kids. There is no confusion there at all. Band Hero looks like Rock Band and does nothing to set itself apart from it.

I think Harmonix/EA have played this terrifically. They've done a great portable game, they're doing a kid-friendly game correctly (did I mention it's only $49.99?), and they did one main game in the series this year. They didn't force RB3 out alongside The Beatles.

Activision is going to end up killing the genre for not only themselves but others.

It's a shame because the fact of the matter is that GH Metallica, GH5, and DJ Hero are all great games. But Activision's greed and oversaturation of the genre is only hurting themselves and the developers who actually put time into these good games. Activision is even hurting these games in the eyes of us gamers. As shown by this thread, people just shit on and want these games to fail -- even if they're good games.

Sucks, really.

saw this in the shop today. didn't even register. The turntable looked like a tonka/fisherprice POS toy. But then I thought the same of the guitars - and I don't play the genre.

You obviously didn't play with toys as a child either as Tonka is synonymous with trucks. :|

Oh, I would like to add this to my rant about Band Hero:

When the game launches this November, the drum kit will be available as part of the Band Hero Super Bundle for the Nintendo Wii and will remain exclusive to the Wii until Xbox 360 and PlayStation variations are released later this year. In the meantime, the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 Band Hero Super Bundles will include the Guitar Hero World Tour drumset.

:lol :lol :lol

To those who were trying to make the case that The Beatles: Rock Band $140 bundle "doesn't count" as a cheap bundle because it's old instruments: fuck you.

Nobody wanted to be a DJ when they were growing up, however, everybody wanted to be a Rockstar.

I wanted to be DJ growing up! I even was a DJ years ago!

However this game doesn't really interest me.

There may be a lot of hate for this game, but it's certainly getting a SHIT-TON of attention.

I'd like to admit to being one of those Guitar Hero III buyers who did not return for "subsequent franchise instalments".

Probably people just associate the word "Hero" with that other musical franchise that they are driving to the ground.

Next stop, Tony hawk's guitar hero. It's the only way to drive them more into the ground.

Don't these companies realize is that they've caused extreme demand destruction for music games? If you release 20 games in a year people will quickly get tired of the genre. You gotta string people along. Release 1 game a year to keep some pent up demand. At this rate, the music genre in the US will look a lot like the one in Japan: a small, hardcore niche (Beatmania IIDX 16, et. al.).
