Enough with the pleasantries, Expendable. Where does it RANK?

Uh, considering I thought IB was just good when I first saw it and now consider it one of his best I don't feel comfortable ranking it mere hours after seeing. But I'll say it's one of his most fun films and right now I like it better than Death Proof (which was terrible) and the Kill Bills (which I appreciate more than actually flat-out like). That's all I can say for now.

And HarSon, do you REALLY want to know?

Does the film have those poignant Tarantino narrative moments? That is my biggest fear, that this film could be missing that and instead just be another bloody action/comedy.

Eg: In IB the moments between Shoshana and Marcel, or the moments between The Bride and her daughter/Bill/O Ren etc.

Or is it just 'throw three sheets to the wind, strap yourself in and lets start capping motherfuckers while I wax poetic!' ala Death Proof.

Should be a good show. I am POSITIVE it will be entertaining but am holding out whether it is great or not. I always worry about how pretentious His movies can be. However, Inglorious Basterds was very good so I will be optimistic about this one.

How fun it is IMO depends on how good the music is.

Are you saying it has the same pacing problem as IB?

The Master really surprised me after all the mixed reviews.

I thought it was utterly fantastic and didn't see any of the problems critics leveled at it.
Ha, I felt exactly the same, really enjoyed it. And my wife who saw it with me totally disagrees with me :lol

There were some disappointments from big name movies earlier in the year like you mentioned, but I've enjoyed what I've seen lately. The Master, Killing Me Softly, Lincoln, Silver Linings, and Argo were all fun to watch.

Good to see Exprndable liked it.

On another note, I've loved this year. Argo, Life of Pi, The Master, TDKR (wasn't disappointed in it like some), Moonrise Kingdom, ParaNorman, Looper, Wreck it Ralph, Skyfall. Been a good year. I have yet to see Lincoln.

This Howard interview with QT is great. About halfway through right now. Holy shit @ his dad actually being on Howard's show in the past lmao.

Feel bad for Tarantino. Had no idea his dad had walked out on him and his mom.

It has a few but there is nothing like the intensity of the first scene in IB or my favorite scene in that movie (the Michael Fassbender bar scene). With Django, you pretty much know how things are going to shake out (except perhaps in the last act). Like I said, it's a very linear, standard revenge tale but filled with excellent, extremely fun Tarantino touches in every scene.

No, I had no pacing problems with Django. There are some great music parts, but definitely not the highlight.

Thanks for the quick impressions, Expandable. I will have to break by streak and finally step into a theater again. Haven't been to the movies since TDKR, which SUCKED.

Definitely gonna see Django, but it has to be the least hyped I've been to see a QT movie. Waltz as a good guy just seems weird lol.

Oh, no. I was asking how the script ended, I don't remember...

I don't know why but for whatever reason I felt like I didn't care to see the movie. I just watched the second trailer and now I'm excited. Looks like a ton of fun. I loved IB. I'm due for a watching of that. It's been a while.

Expendable, was the absence of Sally Menke (his longtime editor who was murdered) apparent? Or did he find someone who filled in her spot nicely and it still had that "look" his films are known for?

Do not read if you have not read the script already...

There are poignant moments between Django and Broomhilda after they hadn't seen eachother for so many years.

Also, Waltz's final moment is pretty emotional too.

If not too much changed from the script... yes. That's all I will say.

Really? How was Foxx and Waltz chemistry?

Foxx and Waltz have great chemistry. I'd say Foxx's turn from a quiet slave to a well-spoken bad-ass is a bit quicker than I remember in the script. It's surprising that Waltz is being campaigned for supporting actor, since he seems like as big of a presence as Foxx.

I'd say that the film is a little more standardly edited than most QT pics. As I said above, there isn't very many scenes with gripping intensity as in other films from him (but I felt that as I read the script as well, so I kinda expected it). There's some great transitions though and really exciting stuff spread throughout, just nothing as bold as most other QT films. It's still definitely a QT film, right from the opening shot to the last.

One more thing: for everyone that was hating on Jonah Hill being in the film...his scene is perhaps my favorite, at least the most flat-out hilarious.

Ah man, I totally forgot about that.

That was so sad when she passed. Especially the way she died. Must have been tough for QT to lose her (professionally and as a friend).

did you know that marcellus wallaca sold his soul to the devil and that it ended up in the suit case

that explains the golden glow

proof: look at the band aid on the back of his neck, that's where a man's soul is taken from

Death Proof is amazing.

Death Proof isn't one of his works that I'm too fond of, but personally I don't consider it a standalone movie. To me it's a segment that makes up Grindhouse (the real Grindhouse, the one only shown in Canada and Texas that includes the original Hobo with a Shotgun), just like how I see both Kill Bills as one movie.

Death Proof is a lot better as a part of a larger film than a standalone film definitely, but I do understand where QT was going with it tho.

At least the car chase was fun.
