Django Unchained | Hype Thread | QT Goes Western

I've heard of this before and assumed it was a stupid fan fiction idea. It just sounds so fucking dumb and unnecessary to me.

I think during some press junket for KBv2 or another one of his movies, someone asked if he would make a v3 and he said, half-jokingly, that he would do it in 20yrs so that the daughter of Vivica A. Fox's character would be old enough to exact revenge on Beatrix.

I guess people took him seriously, because that rumor never died...

Just glad he decided not to pursue that...

He's talked about doing it 10 years after volume 2, which is coming up in 2014. Probably why he's mentioning it now so people don't get too excited or whatever before he ends up not doing it.

I love KB so I've always thought it sounded neat, but thinking about it now after all these years, I actually am kinda glad he's moving on to new stuff. Like Helmholtz said, something completely original like Django is more exciting than another KB sequel.

Why? It's explicitly set up when Beatrix tells the daughter she'll be waiting when she comes for revenge.
Because Beatrix's character would be pretty old by the time that girl is able to exact revenge, and having the girl become adept in martial arts or something in order to do so is just waaay too coincidental for me. I just don't think it's an interesting storyline, personally.

Can't WAIT to read Armond White's review. I like reading just so I can get angry at him. I don't know why I do this to myself. Reactions from folks from /Film and Devin Faraci over on Twitter are reading super positive as well.

And you know her own daughter will be protecting her.

edit: Everyone is dressed too clean in Django. This isn't a fucking GQ shoot, it's the wild west!

I thought Armond White stopped reviewing a year or two ago? I don't see new reviews from him on RT anymore.

In all this Hobbit hype I've gotten myself into, I nearly forgot this was coming out, glad to hear that early impressions are very positive. Love me a good western, especially if it's got that QT flavor.

I'm slightly surprised by all of the positive reviews. There are always some critics that aren't into whatever new thing Tarantino puts out. Love it or hate it and all that.

It's not like it was some fan rumor, Tarantino himself talked up that idea for years.

Is the headline referencing something (other than the fact DU uses the word a lot)? wasn't there an interview he did with a reporter, ahh, i can't remember

I'll definitely be first in line in my city, as I have been for every film of his since I've been able to earn my own money :p (KB vol 1, basically)

I don't mind the use of the word if it's done in a pretty honest way, but that dead nigger storage thing in pulp fiction was just stupid. It undermined the hell out of Jules. I wouldn't let a man call me 'boy' let alone use the word nigger so fucking cavalierly. I expect to hear the word a lot in Django and that's perfectly fine with me since it makes sense.

I think the Bonny Situation was all about Jules and Vincent swallowing their pride. Jules couldnt say shit to Jimmy about using the word nigger because he was doing him such a huge favor.

That's what I always thought too.

Being shocked or offended about the use of the word in a movie like Django Unchained seems odd. What do they expect given the setting and time period?

I don't see why you would compare using the word "boy" as a pejorative with the way Jimmy used the word "nigger." Jimmy never steered towards hurling any personal insults towards Jules.

Personally, I wasn't offended by it - I found Jimmy's rant absolutely hilarious. It's an objectively racist rant, that's for damn sure. But the character is the racist, not the writer/director, and that's why I'm not offended by this particular piece. *shrugs*

I think it's time I start getting excited for this movie, even though I wasn't blown away the one time I saw the trailer. What a movie for Christmas day.

Also, this movie is almost three hours long? Crazy.
