DmC: Devil May Cry - Demo Thread [Demo out now on XBL & PSN]

I have the first 176 issues of Spawn. This includes all of the spinoffs that came out during that time period. All of them. Every one.

I have not played the demo, so I can not comment on this Dante, but Dante was never cool or badass. Dante was always corny. If you thought Dante was cool, you might have also thought Spawn was cool.

Dante does nothing to me, Spawn is amazing. Vergil > Dante, though.
Mains Vergil and Trish in UMVC3

There doesn't seem to be anything particularly wrong with it, but for all the "omg so cool" personality it seems so... very... lacking in personality or identity. If the game was called "Dude's Adventure Through Bad Guys" and the main character was called "Steve" I would never, ever make the connection that this was a Devil May Cry game.

I thought I had posted here but I can't see my post...

So, anyway, I was served a good deal of crow.

I liked the demo, I like the visuals, plays fine although from the demo it may seem to lack dmc3 and 4 depth.
While I don't really dig Dante's face in game (the art style grew on me) I like the artistic direction.
Well, at least there is a direction. Visually, The game has personality and a unique style.
I had no faith in ninja theory, but I think this is better than anything today's capcom could come up with.

Lol at the writing though.
When the boss showed up I was expecting it to start singing "I am the great mighty poo..."

Maybe because you are trying to judge a character based on two demo levels? It is like judging a main character in a novel by reading the back of the book.

Played the demo. The gameplay is alright, but the controls seriously take some getting used to. Visually, it's not bad artistically, but the PS3 version doesn't seem to perform so great. The thing that really bothers me about this game is the story side of things as well as the characters. Will Gamefly.

There are literally minutes of cut scenes with which to sell me on this brave new vision... They fucked up.

Your analogy is poor. Movies can sell me a character in moments, games can do the same in a single cut scene. Again; they fucked up an that's before you even play.

Guess it's not out on EU PSN yet? Lack of hard lock-on is really mind-boggling. Like, why would you not just map it to R3 or whatever? It's such a simple fix and really gives the game a lot more precision. Just have it off by default in the options menu if you're worried about newbies messing up.

Dante has always been pretty cool, people saying stuff like "I BET YOU THINK SPAWN IS COOL!" doesn't deter me.
People are so bro-ny now. Dante claiming alastor in dmc1 was the coolest thing ever. Errbody that dislikes Bra Dante from DMC3 pretends that's the only Dante out there!

I think the demo was alright. The feel was off but I haven't played the previous DMC games in a while. Some of the transforming environment stuff is really cool looking.

I'll probably get this day one, if only for the superior brother dlc, but I was left a bit lukewarm by the demo.

Just finished the demo. I never thought I would become bored less than ten minutes into a new Devil May Cry game. I could ignore the insipid dialog if they had just gotten the combat right, but they didn't. Not even close.

Hopefully the demo isn't representative of the full game.

Played it for about ten minutes and turned it off (I'm not a fan of putting time into demos so usually try them very briefly).

Really liked what I saw, from the visuals to the gameplay. The controls felt good too, like holding triggers to use different weapons.

Severe disappointed courtesy of DMC4 left me a little more open to change and I plan on giving this an honest shot instead of coming in hell bent on hating it.

I'm seriously adoring it.
At E3 it felt like a great surprise, but we're on a whole different level of quality here.

Technically it's solid (save for the 60fps thing, despite the 30 being pretty rock solid), even if it won't make you scream for the awesomeness.
Yet artistically it's astonishing: it oozes with style and personality, it's so fucking COLORFUL (which is always been a great trademark of Ninja Theory) and full of details you discover little by little, awed as you are in front of the overall presentation.
I really love it visually, save for the main character that still has that dick face... even if i have to admit that despite not being my taste, this new Dante is well executed for its look and purpose.
I also find the mood and atmosphere very intriguing, with this cool Anon-like movement driven by Vergil and opposed to the fat politician motherfucker (that will probably be a demon, LOL).

Apart from the rest, it's the gameplay that really struck me: it plays VERY differently from the usual Ninja Theory game (which is a plus of course), and between juggles, real time weapon changes -without giant enemy crabs! :P - sick combos and so on the combat system is definitely there.
And it improved immensely from what i played back in june at E3: in Los Angeles it was a great game to look at, now it's a great game to play, with responsive controls and a great feeling overall.

Kudos to Capcom for the demo as well: it's meaty, full of collectibles and secrets and more than replayble (that last difficulty level obviously shines!), and you can clearly see that lot of attention was put in this demo, to actually convinced people that have a bias toward the project.
Will they make it?
I think so, surely i'm hyped and i can't wait to get home and give it another go. :P

Nearly everyone thought Spawn was cool in the '90s. It was a hyped up Image Comics launch title drawn by McFarlane. People really liked the highly detailed toys too.

Just played the PS3 version and the fps in the boss battle is kinda shitty. Experienced major slideshow quality (idk...10fps?) on my 2nd time fighting the boss. Son of Sprata mode is quite challenging with all the stronger enemies appearing. I like it.

The gameplay is pretty good, but the fps is really bugging me. Can't really play properly at all. Got to admit that the dialogue in the boss fight is hilarious though.

"You disgusting fuck child!" LMAO.

Steve is a cool name :(

Yeah this game has me cracking up. I hope the full thing is as off the wall. I have to give NT their props, they've come a very long way since Enslaved and Heavenly Sword. Still, not quite there but close. Not happy with the lack of a hard lock-on and think that Dahbombs controller config would have worked MUCH better. Overall though, I love the visual style and it was just fun to play. Looking forward to the full game.

Gotta agree with you on the lack of manual lock-on, L1 and R1 are both evade buttons right? Why can't NT assign either one of these buttons for manual lock-on?

I find myself keep pressing the R1 button to lock-on but got evade instead lol...guess I have to get used to it >_>

I never did think Dante was cool, but I didn't care. He was more likable in his previous incarnations.

And Vergil was badass as fuck in DMC 3. One of the best video game character designs of all time. Up there with antagonists like Irenicus from BG2.

I was quite impressed with the demo, really. Really made me long for the rest of the game, can't wait for it to come out.The bossfight was really fun, funny and intense. Controls took a bit of getting used to, my brain is having a hard time understanding the the R2 - L2 combinations.

I was worried the combat might feel too floaty as in Heavenly Sword, but it actually had a lot more punch to it, thankfully. The framerate did worry me though (PS3 version), although the framedrops were only really noticable during the cutscenes.

I like me some katana action. I wish more character action games used them.

I also wish someone would do a nunchuk character action game.

Played the PS3 demo (1st level mind you). Gameplay itself felt rock solid 30fps so I dunno if there is gaf hyperbole or if I own a super PS3. There were few drops in cutscenes, worst offender was just before Dante takes the can from fatman. Also not fps issue but that one reeeally close shot of Dantes face looked terrible.

Overall I really liked it. Will buy.

Only played the first part of the demo on PS3. Solid framerate, good controls and unique level design. I'm not a big fan of the soundtrack, but it's not that bad.

Sold.

Ok, I must admit that I was skeptical going in to the demo, but I liked what I played. I went in with a very open mind and was quite surprised with what I played. Yeah, I can REALLY see and feel the lower than 60fps framerate in both versions even with 120HZ on my HDTV, especially the PS3 version. Despite that, the controls and combat still seemed responsive. How did they figure this looked like it was running at 60fps though? Still fairly smooth in most cases, but the combat does not look as fluid as the previous installations obviously due to this unfortunate fact. I really noticed severely low framerates in the cutscenes also.

Visually, the game is very colorful and vibrant with admirable textures. It doesn't look better than than DMC4 which is 60fps as you all know which imo is a huge accomplishment for such an old game, but it is still nice to look at. Image quality looks really good on my HDTV. I love the "alive" breathing city trying to crush and pummel Dante. Nice touch and it gave the game some personality because it seems like it is over the top.

What can I say, I liked the music I heard so far. It sort of gives it that ol' rebellious DMC-feel to me. I think it sort of made the boss fighter cooler and the battles slightly more intense. Honestly, I am so sick of over-dramatic, orchestral music that is in virtually every game these days.

The platforming felt fine. I didn't have too much trouble with it at all.

I like switching between the weapons and it reminded me of Heavenly Sword in a sense and I actually liked that game. Connecting air combos looked cool and felted good for the most part. Racking up gigantic combos with the style system is easier than before because it seemed like they made it less strict, but it is still fun.

The combat is very fun, but I do miss the lock-on. Not a deal breaker though. Ninja Gaiden never had lock on to my knowledge and I didn't have too many problems with that.

I am not expecting the final product to dethrone DM3 or DMC4, but I think it will still be a good action game and I am looking forward to it next year. It seems like NT are definitely improving.

I don't understand, is it just matter of sensitive? If the fps sucks, sucks, whatever is it the personal sensibility.

Some people will complain and tear it apart if there are fps issues, others will shrug and move on or just not care much. Different strokes for different folks.

Shadow of the Colossus had lots of fps issues on the PS2 but that didn't bother me one bit for example, never once did I complain about it anywhere. Loved the game regardless.

DMC3 actually had a decent narrative under the over-the-top action. It was a convincing and engaging coming of age story. Just because you chose to ignore it doesn't mean it wasn't there.

Agreed, The simple yet good narrative in DMC3 is why it stands as my favorite.
Sucks they couldn't replicate it with DMC4, have no idea what the story was in that game.
I know it had one but it sure didn't present itself very easily.

do you a have opinion on anything that isn't lol worthy?

I just call them like I see them. You got problems with an opinion, then use a gif.
