I'm going to bump this, realizing my original post was a thread backfire, but adding the following information...

I can't login to my Steam account from my personal Windows desktop, but I am able to login via Steam on my Linux work laptop. However, even though I can log in on my Linux laptop, it's impossible to change my Authenticator settings, because my phone is not generating codes.

So... don't lose your "R" code if you're going to opt into this. Or you'll be stuck waiting for Steam support like myself.
