Sony was open to letting customers use PS4 controllers on their PS3, so I'm wondering if the same applies to the PS5 controller working on the PS4. Recent articles seem to suggest "No" or at best, "Not confirmed".

The reason I'm curious is because PS4 controllers have terrible build quality. I'm sticking with my PS4 Pro for the next several years. I'm tempted to buy PS5 controllers during that period of time instead of sinking even more money into crappy Dualshock 4s, but if that's not feasible I'll go with third party controllers instead.

Maybe after a firmware update, they'll support basic compatibility. Can't think of any valid reason why they wouldn't be usable.

My DS4 works with Bluetooth on my laptop and is instantly recognised by Retroarch.

No, you cannot use the PS5 DualSense controller with the PS4.

This is because the controller would need to be paired up with the PS4 via a USB-C connection port. The PS4 sadly doesn't have a USB-C connection port, whereas the PS5 does.

I don't think Sony confirmed whether or not the DualSense controller will work on PS4. We do know PS4 controllers will work on PS5 but only for PS4 games.
