Do we actually want Halo 2 Anniversary?

EDIT FOR CLARITY:

OP: "Based on past history, it looks like H2A might not be good. Do you really want this bad scenario?"

Bunches of people saying "yes."

Kiiiinda thinking people just didn't read the OP and are responding to thread title, not OP content, which, uh... aren't we all supposed to read the OP?

Jumping to conclusions much? How can you say that we "likely" won't get good MP? It is not like there is a Xbox One Halo that they can just add some new maps to with H2A, as they did with H: CEA Not to mention Phil Spencer's hints at a "real" Halo 2 MP.

Because 343 has released two games with disappointing multiplayer. I mean, I want to be wrong--I'd love to see things change--but has 343 instilled confidence through anything they've released?

I'd personally rather see a remake of the game with a tweaked campaign than an HD version of some of the worst (Halo 4 aside) level design in the series.

That's precisely what people are expecting. Ntkrnl even said to me personally that they are doing something with the campaign.

So, even though we'll have a terrible campaign and likely won't ACTUALLY get good multiplayer, if CEA is anything to go by... you want it? Why?

What did ya'll do, just read the title without thinking? Or do you actually like that campaign somehow?

Opinions how do they work..

Get out with this terrible campaign. It's really really solid and really only let down by the ending. You get earth Levels. Attacks on covenant home base, arbiter PoV missions, the changing of the guard and the best flood Levels in the series.

Not in the way the current assumption is in how they're going to do it.

Halo 2's multiplayer is broken beyond all belief.

The campaign is unfinished and Bungie deserves to remake it if a Halo 2 ever came out. The game practically destroyed the company, and it's a fucking insult to just bring the game they didn't want to release out again, exactly, with no chance to to get a do-over. "Hey, remember that game you fucked up? Here's a reminder of how you fucked up, again"

The idea is that the multiplayer would be the same as the original and not what they did with CEA.

And I love the halo 2 campaing, can't understand how people get "lost" or don't understand the history. Its pretty straight forward.

Yes, mainly for the Campaign. I would love to see the Campaign remastered since it was my favorite from all the Halo games.

As long as it had a solid framerate unlike Halo Anniversary and a couple of cool extras (such as including the OSDT video from the map pack disc and terminals), then absolutely. I think it has the best overall multiplayer experience of the series and I actually enjoyed the campaign for the most part, strongest plot and cutscenes of the series, though sections of it are questionable to say the least when it comes to level/enemy design.

That said, I'd have to get a Xbone first and Halo 2 Anniversary wouldn't be a system seller to me, but I'd certainly get the game when I do get around to buying a Xbone.

Uh, 343 have only made one game.

And yes, I'll take Halo 2 Anni. With Halo 5 not coming til next year, it'll give me a chance of seeing next-gen Halo graphics. And if Halo 2's actual MP is in, then...holy shit YES.

Not really, I think peoples nostalgia is getting the better of them, Afterall it's the MP they want not the SP, Which is a sad state of affairs really, But it was many's first foray into console MP action. For me personally, Iv'e had my fill of Halo 2.

We want Halo 2 multiplayer. Partly for nostalgia, partly because we just want to play Halo. If Halo 2: anniversary is real, it must have true multiplayer. Without it, I'm not sold and I'm willing to bet many others will agree.

EDIT: this is derailing the convo. I hate it when people come in shouting "that's just your opinion" and "get out" to disagree with someone. I'd much rather hear someone say "I disagree with you because..." which is how I try to conduct myself. I felt defensive. If you really want to see the response, other people have quoted it. Sorry. Shitty week, feeling stressed, got defensive when I didn't need to.

Uh, 343 have only made one game.

And they have released two. :)

Actually, they've released three, but I wasn't counting the top-down shooter.

Most of us who wanted it are assuming Halo 2's multiplayer would be coming back in some form, which is what I want. I could give a rat's ass about the campaign, its easily the weakest of the trilogy despite having the most interesting narrative, but that's not what I'm about.

If they aren't complete idiots, they'll understand that when most people think "Halo 2" its because its of its suite of multiplayer features, not its campaign mode. Surely they wouldn't slap on some Halo 4 multiplayer shit nobody wants onto the game.

Surely.

I wish, but after HCE and Halo 4, I don't really feel I can justify wanting to give 343 my money any more. I feel like H2A's going to be another HCE, and that's just a big letdown.

I was actually kinda bummed by the art update to HCE as well, being honest.

That's more or less where I'm at on this whole thing.

You mean boring.

and really only let down by the ending.

How as the ending any different than the rest of the game?

You get earth Levels.

What has that got to do with the quality of the campaign? I could make earth levels, and I bet you a million dollars they'd be awful.

Attacks on covenant home base,

...ok? What has this got to do with the quality of the campaign? These levels were awful anyway.

arbiter PoV missions,

Again, what has this to do with quality? Yay, you get to play as the arbiter! Um...but the levels sucked.

the changing of the guard

SO WHAT?!?!

Seriously, what have ANY of these things you've listed have to do with the quality of the campaign?

Halo 2 is the most boring Halo I've ever played. More boring than 4. It's more boring than a lot of other games I've played. Unnecessarily frustrating at times too.

Yes, the story was pretty good. I loved the scale and style of the story just as much as you, but the levels were awful. Pretty much everybody seems to agree on that.

and the best flood Levels in the series.

Uhhhh.... Uhhhhhhhhhh......

Ok, maybe this one is a matter of opinion, sure, but I'm pretty sure there's a lot of people who'd disagree with you. CE's levels were far superior, as we 3's minus the ranged forms.

Honestly, no hyperbole or sarcasm:

All I want is the E3 2003 demo, and I would pay full MSRP for that alone. I literally daydreamed about playing it almost constantly from the first time it was shown up until Halo 2's release, and my soul was filled with shit and then imploded when I played through Halo 2 for the first time and realized that all I was going to get was a couple of bastardized chunks of it. To this day I want to find out who it was at Bungie who was responsible for the decision to not put it into the final game, so I can know exactly who to wish an armpit flea infestation upon. I mean I get that the demo itself could not run on an Xbox due to the engine. But I see no reason why the content couldn't have been translated into the final engine, or at least much much closer to it. That was just flat out fucked up. To show that demo to people and let them dream of playing it for themselves for a year and a half and then not give it to them... I seriously think that accounts for a HUGE chunk of fanbase saltiness over the SP campaign. It certainly accounts for a lot of mine. The technical faults are one thing, but this just felt like a deliberate FUCK YOU from Bungie. Yes, I'm still bitter. I can't help that I'm a passionate Halo fan!

Some people think the E3 demo is a bullshit rumor, but Frankie's been hinting it could happen for like two years now. So those people need to shut the fuck and believe.

Halo 2 Anniversary without the original or updated multiplayer is a non factor. The only reason many are excited is we get possibly updated visuals and frame rates for classic Halo 2 multiplayer.

I want to play 4v4 BR in Midship. It's been too long. I don't want Halo 2 maps in the shit that is Halo 4 Infinity gameplay.

Anything that brings back original/classic Halo gameplay and reminds people of a time without shit like loadouts, jetpack, perks, ordnance, sprint is a good thing.

I'd say yes. I enjoyed Halo 2, but I think H2A is more for people that really never had a chance to play Halo 2 when it was relevant. If H2A were to come out this year, it would be 10 years since Halo 2 came out, which is pretty much a lifetime for a larger portion of the potential market.

As others have pointed out, it is a very different scenario. With Reach, they had a thriving community that they would have taken people away from.

This time around, there is no Halo community on Xbox One yet, to they need a "base game" anways. If they have to port a base game to play the H2 maps on, they might just as well use the real deal. And again, that is what phil has hinted at recently.

Halo 2. Just watched my roommate beat it the other day. My initial reaction is that... it's... not that good, honestly. I've tried playing it a few times, but somewhere along the line, I get stuck on an Arbiter mission, and I stop having any fun whatsoever. The New Mombasa levels are okay, but that's about it. It is, in my opinion, the only bad single-player game Bungie has ever made.

.

Come on man. You're judging a campaign based on watching somebody else playing the game?

I know we're in the age of Twitch, but at least play the game yourself before forming that opinion.

Yes I do. I thought the campaign was meh, but I really enjoyed the MP. I hope these rumors of the E3 demo level being playable are true!

Fuck yes but you're saying you're confused as to why we want it because you're opinion was that Halo 2 SP sucked? Not at all, it was most memorable in my eyes. Add to the fuck they've hinted at the E3 2003 demo being playable AND I believe Ntkrnl said there will be an alternate ending of some kind? Hell yeah!

If the E3 thing hit, I'd be waaaay more interested. That demo was fantastic compared to the miniature levels of the original game.

I've played the game, on Xbox and PC! Even did stuff like modding hex code to get a less-terrible FOV.

It's that watching it reminded me how bad of a Halo installment it is.

When polled, most people rank Halo 2's campaign as the worst. I'd forgotten why until recently: it really is crap. It's like... as bad as Killzone 2 or Resistance 2 or something.

I really don't get the obsession with the 2003 E3 demo. It looks fun, but it's just an extra eight minutes (or whatever) of campaign. It would just be a cool easter egg and nothing more, as far as I'm concerned.

I would like more than simply a reskin over the old engine this time but we'll see. Also not sure how well the exact same multiplayer would hold up against shooters of today, so I'm interested to see where they make updates.

I actually do want Halo 2, that way i can keep making my Halo Gun Syncs :D plus play the campaign all over again this time in HD and 60fps :'D

You must not be one of the people who spent most of June 2003 to Nov 2004 thinking "Oh my god I cannot wait to play that myself..." over and over and over.

Joke post? Wow that's pretentious.

No. Halo 2 is easily the worst in the series. Terrible story, the multiplayer maps were boring, and I didn't care for dual wielding weapons.

Nah, I definitely was. I've moved on, though, haha. The Halo 2 hype train was probably the first time I ever got crazy hyped for a game.
