Do we still have some Charizard lovers here on GAF?

Lately I've been noticing that GAF top Pokemon lists haven't been including my main breh, Charizard! Like sometimes barely getting a top 20-25 mention!

What's up with that guys? Did you guys not like him anymore?

He's pretty cool, just not that cute.
 
Too big. I prefer the small ones.

Charizard is the only good fire starter. The rest of them (cept maybe typhlosion) are ugly as sin, will never be as cool because they can't fly, and did I mention the ugly part.
 
He's my least favorite of the gen 1 starters, but still pretty cool. Miles above the boring starters gen 2 and 5 had.

Fun fact: modest specs solar power Charizard's fire blast in the sun can 2hko every non-fire immune pokemon in OU, even Blissey and Tentacruel and stuff.
 
Had to be a damn masochist to choose him in Red and Blue, Charmander got his shit handed to him early in the game by Brock and Misty.
 
Never been a big fan.

Also I walked by this yard the other day where this dog was using a Charizard plushie as a chew toy. Even dogs don't like Charizard.

Charmeleon fuck yes (never been fond of Wartortle). There are a few pokemon that I think look cooler than their evolved counterparts. Haunter is another. I'm blanking on others...


Also the original trio still the best no doubt. Empoleon is my man though, I mean he's a penguin.

I don't think there has been a better starting trio that look as good and are as cool as the original three.
 
when i first got the game, i meant to name him champ but due to the extreme low lighting of being in a car on the freeway at night, i spelled out 'chum' on accident. ever since then i make sure to start with the fire starter and include 'chum' in the name somewhere. now with gen 6 i'll have an unbeatable team of fire starters.

but charizard is the best. the best.
 
That entire evolution (Charmander-->Charizard) absolutely rolled through gyms once you got past Misty. Close to not being fair once he get's all of his moves. Flamethrower, game over.

I never trained many more Pokemon outside of my starter in those games, so I'd always end up with a Charmeleon so I could beat Misty. No electric-types needed :P

Typhlosion is pretty awesome, too.


But yeah, Charizard will always be my number one starter. It's a shame he's flying type instead of Dragon, though. So sick of hearing about Stealth Rock from anyone who thinks they even remotely know about competitive battle. It's like "Yeah no, I already heard about Stealth Rock but I'm using Charizard anyway so please just shut up."

I remember there was a moveset that basically made Blastoise invincible and you get it pretty early on. I think it was Surf / Ice Beam / Earthquake / Body Slam, and you could mimic this really early in the game using Bubble Beam, Dig, and Bite. Basically once you get the Ice Beam TM all you need are some HM slaves.

So many memories of this game lol
