Do you ever buy Steam games from other websites?

I've bought Steam keys from at least 5 different digital retailers, from various developer websites, and included in physically distributed games.

I also very regularly buy on Steam proper.

EDIT: Oh, and a significant percent of my games in recent years comes from Kickstarter as well.
This too.

Very rarely. Due to the regional pricing, it's mostly cheaper for me on steam.

If it's very expensive and unfair priced, i go for the cheapest possible website (usually once or twice per year though), or don't buy it at all.

Steam is the cheapest in my region (Dead Rising released at half its U.S. Dollar price over here), so it's very seldom I get the chance to buy a game outside Steam.

This has a downside, though: I can't gift games to friends in the U.S.

I only buy from steam day one if there are no other options for legitamite resellers. isthereanydeal.com is great. It's always cheaper elsewhere.

I admit I am sometimes tempted to for some reasons:
- 10% discount on Humble store as a monthly subscriber,
- more money to charity and to the devs.
but then I miss out on:
- getting my Steam review to count in the average score and to be read,
- having the possibility to refund a game.

Recently, there was the RIVE issue: it is actually 1 cent more expensive on Steam.

I have when its directly form the developer as part of a preorder or kick starter kind of thing, like the Star Control reboot.

I buy wherever IsThereAnyDeal points me to on the off chance I'm really wanting a game while there's no Steam sale for it. All the places I've bought from since February alone:

GMG
Funstock
Humble
Bundle Stars

Used to buy from nuuvem plenty but I got too lazy for all the VPN stuff.

I still get a few from Humble but the possibility of refunds is a big incentive to buy from steam now, particularly when buying at launch in case there are some serious issues.

I honestly don't remember the last time I paid for a game on Steam. Everything is from third party sites or physical games with Steam codes, and during Steam sales I'll usually buy a couple of smaller games with Trading Card money.

One of the big reasons why I prefer pc gaming to consoles.

Such ridiculously good deals on places like greenman.

Sure, sometimes there are better deals around game release at solid sites like GMG, plus Humble Bundles building (or more accurately, cluttering) the Steam library. With maybe Amazon a couple times and once iirc one from Newegg.

Do we have a list of good pages? I rarely buy pc games as my computer is so old but I plan on updating next year. Would be nice to have a list of reputable sellers.

Green Man Gaming
Humble Bundle
Gamersgate (very unfortunate name)
Nuuvem (if you can get around the region locks)

Plenty of others. Sign up for isthereanydeal and you'll see a ton of different sites that give you the best price and it filters out the shady sites.

Old sites I used:
Gamersgate - First site I used. I didn't know any better.
Amazon - God-tier discounts 4 years back, I kinda miss the gaf rep.
Greenmangaming - Most of pre-order stuff I did years ago was made here because of the bonus discounts. Now, I don't really buy anything much from them.

Current go-to Steam key shops:
Humblebundle - I just wait for monthly bundles and other bundles for my regular game purchases.
Indiegala - This is where I buy obscure indie games.
Bundlestars - Tried it out twice and I'm liking their offers/bundles.

Others:
g2a - Tried it once for Mad Max and never again. I didn't have any problems but the practices they're doing is something I can not support.

Steam for Sales, Pre-purchase discounts (usually on indie or VR games), and rare big games that aren't getting any discounts. Humble/GMG/GOG/CD-Keys/Amazon for almost everything else.

The only time I've ever bought straight from Steam was for Hyper Light Drifter, but that's because I wanted to have it right away and I recognized that I was paying for that luxury. Otherwise, Humble Bundles/Humble Store, Bundle stars, etc. for sure.

Almost exclusively. Primarily Greenmangaming. On new games it generally saves me 30-40% compared to Steam. Basically only buy games from Steam when there's a sale.

I use Humble, GMG, CDKeys, Funstock Digital, and of course Steam itself during sales or if I think I may need to get a refund if the game doesn't pan out. BundleStars and Indiegala as well but rarely.

I buy my Steam games from many different places including Humble, Greenmangaming, Cdkeys and others. Unless it's a sale I rarely buy from Steam since the price is usually higher.

I just recently got a gaming PC again, so seeing these sites like CDkeys is really a revelation.

I'm wondering though, does anyone have any experience with buying a game before it releases? Thinking of buying Mafia 3, but I'm not sure how trustworthy it is. Or are those prices for the game still going to be there come release, making pre-ordering it unnecessary?

I've bought a physical game and then used the key with steam (Skyrim), but have never bought a steam key from another site.

I've preordered multiple games off CDKeys. You'll get your key on the day of release or a day before.

As far as the price: It usually spikes up around release then settles down to preorder prices a month or so after.

CDKeys are amazing, great prices and when I cancelled Titanfall 2 I got my refund within 5 minutes.
