Do you expect a Vita price cut announcement at E3 2012?

Why create a random 2GB card?, when they have a 4GB one

They really should have gone was 8GB/32GB/64GB - $24.99/$49.99/$99.99 to purchase

4GB should've been used a free starter give away card from the get go
They should've included the 4GB, that's why I said at the very least since they might want to keep the 4GB on the market. Hopefully Sony will aim higher if they really want to save the thing.

Do people actually pay hundreds of dollars for the latest iteration of the iPhone? I assumed that most people were able to get the iPhone heavily discounted alongside a service contract. Also, can they really sell for that much when an iPad is $500?

The vast majority of people do (get it discounted with a phone contract, that is).

I know in Australia that if you aren't getting the latest model iPhone you don't even need to pay any extra with your monthly data plan. Only restriction is that you buy into a two year contract.

And even if it is the latest model iPhone you only pay an extra $10 a month.

Yes they do, it's unbeliveable. Nowadays the real value of mass produced electronics count nothing, expecially the build quality.

Salty!

I don't think you guys realize just how desperate things are for Sony right now.

The main culprit isn't the VITA, it's Sony stretching itself out so fucking thin and thinking it can survive in all the sectors due to it's name, Newsflash it ain't the fucking 1980's anymore
No Coke vs Pepsi or Dan vs Dave
Sony invested in the VITA, even though they knew it would be an uphill battle due to changes happening all around them
They even had their competitor show how dynamically shifted the handheld market has become and yet they were still stubborn on the release of the VITA with that price point and the packages offered

If they don't do something drastic, retailers are going to start dropping the platform. The Wii U is coming, they need that shelf space.

You mean those 2 shelves near the back, where the dust bunnies hang out
For fuck sakes DS games of yesteryear have more shelf space and are to be seen more clearly, with better lighting
Gamestops VITA section almost make it feel like the $0.25 booth of 42nd Street, and people looking at you funny, going: "The fuck is the perv doing there in the back"

Sony can't afford a price drop but they also can't afford for it to do a PSPgo and have retailers firesale off their remaining stock and kill off the platform without them having any say in it.

Sony has retailers for a little while longer, there are still incentives to keep the VITA at least on life support even through it's Coma phase
If Sony E3 doesn't shake the foundation of their gaming division, and show a new future outlook, with greener pastures are present/shown
Then you will see inkling of HP Touchpad firesale to start drumming up by media and one susceptible B&M store to follow suit, due to them being in their dire standards *coiugh*Best Buy*cough*

If they don't have the software lineup coming to back it up, a price cut won't do much, unless it's a cut to like $129, and EVEN THEN....you need the software.

I still can't believe they're letting me sit on a pile of UMDs of games I actually want and play away happily on my 3000 while I have plenty of money for their new hardware.

lol

you think they'd cut the price to $40 below a 3DS? It's twice as powerful

Even though i bought one at launch I still hope there is a price drop. This thing needs to start selling like hotcake so we get more games.

Why not just wait till it's on the dollar menu with built in 1TB memory card?

I just missed buying on from a friend for 140 with a 16 GB card and a game. Been buying too much gaming stuff lately that just gets shelved so yeah, I'm basically waiting for Vita to end its run so I can pick up the stuff cheap.

Got a Go a month ago with ten games on it for 80 and that'll hold me tidy for awhile on them PSP games.

I do think they will sometime this year but I would expect it later. For now I could see a bundle (effective price cut yeah) with them hoping an all-star sizzle reel at E3 will sustain sales until the holidays when they will price cut with some games coming out would be the best opportunity to breathe life into the Vita.

Actually I could see them waiting until early next year. This Christmas could easily be the battle of the consoles as the PS3 and 360 get price cuts in the face of the Wii U release. In addition, I wouldn't be surprised if the only real Wii news at E3 is a price cut. Sony could reasonably decide that the console battle would absorb an inordinate amount of consumer dollars which will necessarily constrain the 3DS. They would still barely be in the fight and would price cut early next year with the new games starting to roll out.

I think the former is the safer route, but with Sony's financial situation, the PSP and PS2 finally passing away, and the PS3 needing a price cut I don't know if Sony could afford a price cut on the Vita even if it were the best move for the handheld.

Holding out for 99 with built in 32 GB.

Or until I see something similar on craigslist.

Heh, I can't count how many sharply discounted consoles and games I've seen on clearance racks I passed up over the years. Well, if the Vita joins the ranks of clearance racked before its time consoles, I will buy one.

Or in a 2013 inventory liquidation sale. Could go either way.

If that happens, say bye bye to the Playstation brand
It will not only hurt the handheld sector, it would be felt through everything Sony has invested technological-wise

lol

Of course not, my point was I don't think a $199 Vita is much better equipped to deal with its issues than a $249 vita.

It doesn't matter how powerful it is.

Took me less than a year to get a PSP go for $90 on CL. Not too shabby, and I've seen vitas going for $150-160 on CL already.

this is true. if sony can get some top notch games out they can leave the price at $250. $150, $200, $250 doesn't really matter if there aren't a lot of compelling games to play. we'll see at e3!

really hoping it gets a price-cut, I would be fine with $199. But P4G won't get released anytime soon so I don't mind if theres no price cut before then. But just like many people mentioned, I think we can expect them to release some sort of bundle.

what they should do-

-New color, preferably red. But if they did bring a new color it would be either white or a blue that matches their Arceus awful Vita marketing scheme. :/
-price drop bundle with Memory card and 2 games that people want to play.
-really need to see ps1 classics support. Only thing I use my Go for.
-RPG's!!!!!!!!

edit- didnt answer the question. Yes I expect a price cut.

I just need a great Gravity Rush bundle and I'm good to go. Of course, a price cut before that would help if I wanna any other games this year.

No. The problem is lack of games just like the start 3ds.

Cutting the price without the games will be a waste of time. When some big releases are ready to go, then you make a move.
Nintendo cut the price without games.

Price cut was in August.

Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart and Monster Hunter came out months later.

I'd get one if there were a price cut. It's got a few games I want but can't justify paying so much for the system for.

A free memory card would be nice too.

Ultimately, it would be stupid for anybody to buy a Vita until the price cut hits. You know it's coming. It has to. Or else Sony is playing a game of "how wildly can we possibly miss our forecasts by?"

I'd rather take Software Price Cuts across the board than VITA going down in price

That is the fucking problem those ports/psn game re-hashes can all be played on the PS3, and with-in a few months cheaper than their VITA counterparts

Dungeon Hunter Alliance PSN/PS3 - $12.99
VITA version - $39.99
VITA DD - $34.99
iOS/Android - $3-$5
LOL WAT!?!

Plants vs Zombies PSN/PS3 - $14.99, Free if PSN+
VITA version - $14.99
Steam - $4.99
iOS/Android - $2-$4

they best do if Big N come out with a 3DS lite

Fortunately for Sony I think they can at least sleep sound knowing that is at least a year away. I can't see Nintendo bringing something new to the table that would distract from the WiiU's limelight.

Either way, the Vita needs to get some traction fast or the momentum of the 3DS and the pending 3DS lite will be too much of a gap to put any sort of dent into the handheld marketshare. A price-cut and value bundle needs to happen before holiday shopping season (Thanksgiving)

No way it's getting price cut

The system barely will be 4 months old by then, 6 if you count JP release

See that's what I thought at first too, but that's right about where the 3DS was too, when it got its big price cut. I dunno. There doesn't seem to be a history of price cuts at E3 though, so I doubt it.

I expect one this year, but I'm not sure E3 will be the place and time to do it. Vita is still very much aimed at the Sony/PSP/PS fan and early adopter, so it might be the best time, actually, since they are the primary consumer audience of the show. I kinda expect them to follow Ninty's lead with their relaunch, but because of how little interest there is in the platform, evidenced by its likely record-setting low sales, they'll have to couple it with a seriously generous change of bundled software and hardware (free games and mem card) as well as a $50 or more drop.

I expected a PS3 and a Vita price cut.

However now those bundles have been announced with the free game and memory card pack-in I think Vita will stay at full price until Christmas at the earliest, wehre it may see a drop in price for the holiday sales. Sony obviously want to take the value for money approach here.

PS3 I still believe will see a price drop so they can milk it in it's final year before PS4 hits and mass-interest begins to decrease.

No, at max there will be some bundle, but sony at the e3 will show (what they think is)a megaton.
If you add playstation suite and something related to gaikai i don't think vita will need a price cut.

I hope so, I'd really like to see the platform take off. The memory card pricing issue is a serious problem though and it's prevented me from biting early on like I did with the original PSP.

A wifi PSV + 32gb memory card is going to set me back $450 in Australia before I even buy a game. Spending half a grand on a portable device that is evolutionary, not revolutionary, is a big ask for a hard core gamer let alone a casual consumer.

I actually already own Uncharted and a screen protector for the PSV. As soon as Sony takes the right steps (either by packing in a memory card or dropping the price), I'll jump onboard.

I think the main question is can Sony afford a price cut for a vita. I think the Vita is selling right now just slightly below what it costs to make it. If Sony dropped the cost by 50 bucks that would hurt Sony very much, but a bundle wouldn't hurt Sony nearly as much.

Expect to see that Uncharted bundle we saw on engadget a few weeks back. Is was the Wifi model + Uncharted + 4GB stick for 250.

Also, if Sony did a dramatic price drop on the memory sticks that could spur digital sales.

Sony doesn't just need a price cut for the vita, they need a price restructuring strategy.

Like many have already said, if not a price cut then Sony need to do something. I'm from the UK and the Vita has next to no market or mindshare here. It's just not selling.

At E3, I think Sony need:

- Price Cut:
It needs to come below £200. The uninformed are still seeing £220 in shop windows and it's not working. It's only a small drop but it comes below the mental price barrier.

- Bundles:
Memory card needs to be bundled as standard for every single Vita sold from now onwards. That should have been the case at launch but as a bare minimum it has to be now. I like the previously mentioned idea of a free game and a free PSN credit. Sony could perhaps get away with avoiding the above mentioned price drop if they bundle a 4GB/8GB memory card and Uncharted: Golden Abyss.

- Gran Turismo Vita:
With an Uncharted already out and not stimulating sales, Gran Turismo is now by far Sony's strongest trump card. Sony need to reveal Gran Turismo Vita at E3 in a playable state and with a confirmed release date for this fiscal year, but preferably for before Christmas. The European Vita market especially needs this to happen. A proper single player, proper cross support with GT5 and with "future Gran Turismo titles" is required to avoid some of the bad feeling from GT PSP.

- More First Party Games:
Sony needs to show that it is taking it's own platform seriously if there is any hope that third party developers will do the same. It's not good enough for Sony to announce LittleBigPlanet Kart and All-Stars for PS3 but not for Vita (although I believe All-Stars is as good as confirmed for Vita now anyway). Even if it means reviving some older brands and even if only for small, downloadable PSN titles, Sony needs to show that it's leading from the front.

- Stronger iOS Dev Support:
Sony need to announce new partnerships with mobile developers, or at least some sort of initiative that encourages those developers to take the Vita seriously. Even just ports of iOS games would heavily strengthen the current PSN offerings and keep the store ticking over, and the touch screen should make those ports easy for the devs themselves. To not have the likes of Angry Birds, Doodle Jump etc is a massive hole in the Vita's lineup right now as a portable device.

- Call of Duty:
And I don't mean just any Call of Duty. It has to actually be worth doing, with a feature set compelling enough to drag people from their 360 and into the PlayStation eco-system, at the same time as convincing PS3 owners they need a second copy of the game for portable use. Cross platform multiplayer is a must.

That isn't the be all and end all of how to "solve" the Vita, and some of those things won't work without another or several other things being implemented, but for me that would at least provide a solid platform from which to kick the Vita on. I think that's a pretty reasonable list of achievable things Sony could - and in my opinion should - focus on at E3.

I doubt they can afford a price cut. You'll probably see a bundle but that won't do anything. Third parties aren't interested in creating exclusive software, first party content is the same old and Sony are so incompetent that you can't even play all your PS1 software on it.

I think E3 will be extremely muted for the Vita and you'll see little more than console ports. Unless Sony start throwing some serious cash at developers they aren't going to waste their time developing on a console with such bleak prospects. It's a shame, because the Vita is a nice piece of kit but it's incredibly poorly positioned in the current marketplace.

THIS.

What happened with 3DS has set expectations, so they need to make a price-cut just to get over the "will they/won't they" psychological barrier.

Pricecuts don't really matter, the stores make their own deals and bundles anyway.

U can be a dumbass and buy your Vita at HMV or something, or buy it at a decent price online for 20% less

One game (either Uncharted or Little Deviants) + 4GB memorycard included for free is more likely in my opinion. If that doesnt help much, then maybe we will see a pricedrop before this holiday season.
