Do you guys always playon GAME mode on your tv?

I just bought the Vizio 50" 4K tv that was on sale at Best Buy and I've been playing with it off and haven't noticed much input lag. I guess I'll try playing with it on and see if it helps. I know my friend has an LG and that thing has horrible input lag. Playing a game like nba 2k it was impossible to get a good shoot release until we turned on game mode. So some tvs need it more than others...

No, I change my input to "PC" and it has even less lag (and looks better) than Game mode.

Still rocking a Samsung LN40A650 from 2009.

On many TVs, mine included, it is impossible to play video games on anything but.

There is an unmanageable amount of input lag on standard mode on my Samsung 7500. Like, more than half a second, I think.

Edit: Lol, just checked, without Game Mode my input lag is 119.8ms. Literally unplayable.

It's 21 in Game Mode. 37 in PC Mode, which I don't actually know how to access.

Yep, game mode usually just turns off all the superfluous post-processing stuff TVs have in this day and age. Avforums is a good starting point to hunt down properly calibrated color settings as well. When I got my current TV I was fairly appalled by the factory color settings, it was night and day after putting in the right values.

Do most tvs have game mode? I've looked on the ones that I own and none of them seem to have it. The most recent one was only bought a year or two ago so it's not like they're outdated.

I've had game mode on all my TV's for about 7 years or more. Most switch automatically and you'd need to go into the settings to see what mode it was in or you can press the information button on some remote controls to see what mode your in. So your TV most likely does have it.

Maybe it's hidden. On Samsung and older LGs you can rename your HDMI input to "PC" which will activate gaming mode.

The benefits of game mode are really going to depend on the TV. On most large screen sets, it's pretty much necessary.

For the first several hours of Battlefront, I was an idiot playing on cinema mode without realizing it. Hadn't used my XB1 for gaming in a while and had forgot what setting I had last left it on I suppose. It was incredibly frustrating and I couldn't figure out why I was losing nearly every gun battle in situations where it felt like I absolutely shouldn't be. Then I realized the problem. Went from posting around 0.7 KDR to 1.5-2 KDR almost immediately after. So yea, I use game mode.

Nope.

Doesn't offer the PQ control I need.

This. I don't mind turning off all the post processing effects (which I do anyways on my "Custom" setting), but game mode does not allow me to adjust some PQ settings such as gamma and white balance.

I did, but now I can't seem to control the auto dimming feature, so I leave it off. Samsung 65".

I've always used PC mode on my Samsung Tvs but I've recently moved to Game mode since PC mode seems to drain the saturation on some games for myself and color is one the few settings to be locked.

No I hate it. I despise what it does to the sound and image on my TV even after changing the settings it doesn't look anywhere near as good. I don't notice any lag either on my TV so its a none issue right now.

I never use "game" picture modes that have their own gamma curve, etc., but I tend to enable "game low latency" whenever possible in order to minimize input lag. The latter (in most cases) merely disables noise reduction and interpolation without directly impacting PQ, so it's generally safe to use.

I only use game mode for everything on my Panasonic 55" ST50 plasma. It just looks the best and there is zero latency or issues of any sort.

Yes, whenever it makes a difference (particularly in competitive MP). I've been playing on a PC monitor for the last while though and I'm worried input lag will be intolerable when I go back to the TV.

i have a panasonic viera and i play in thx mode 99% of the time.

don't really notice much of a difference in performance compared to game mode although the colors in the latter mode look quite different/awful.

I use it for the lack of latency but I turn it off if I'm watching anything. It makes films look like a banded, artifacty mess on my Samsung.

I have a Samsung DLP from 2006 that has a game mode, and a Sharp LCD from 2013 that does as well.

Don't you notice the constant flicker with impulse mode? I can't stand it personally.

Oh man. That flicker. I can feel my pupils dilating with that flicker. My Samsung warns that people "sensitive" to it might notice a "slight flickering."

That's me, I guess.

I hope that would be the case with everyone here. Game Mode is for games!

Turns all post processing type stuff off. Only works on the first hdmi port though. Not sure what other tvs do it, maybe LG.

My LG plasma has it as well(can use it on any hdmi though). Like you said it disables the post processing crap and also enables 4:4:4 chroma which makes a pc look better when used on the tv.

Its what I have the tv permanently set at and looks much better, plus I need it set at that for my Mac mini I have hooked up to it.

I use pc mode instead on my samsung. Game mode doesn't actually turn off all post processing but pc mode does. Lower input lag and better colors.

I always use it when I am playing MP games where low input latency is vital. For campaigns, specifically ones which have nice graphics, I turn it off.

I have a friend that sees flickering in most florecent lights, he's what I'd call sensitive. Impulse mode however is really notacable/intrusive in my opinion.

I bought myself a 'new' Sony KDL 70c 48 inch yesterday.

It's really amazing so far and I do use game mode for PS4. It seems to have very low input lag which is great.

I do have some weird vertical white line that's barely noticable in the middle of the screen running down so I think I might have to get a replacement unit.

I haven't even tried using this mode on my TV. I should probably check that out next time I play because everyone's saying it makes a difference. My games seem fine so far, no input lag that makes it unplayable, or maybe I've already mastered it.

My TV is always set to game mode. I calibrated it in "normal" mode, but game mode doesn't negatively affect it much. I've not done tests to see if I can feel a difference, since I usually turn processor-heavy things off anyway, but I like my current setup.

Actually, I'll try switching game-mode off and see if I can feel a difference tonight. Halo 5 should be a good test-subject with the solid 60fps.

I'm surprised there are people who don't; high input lag is one of the worst things in gaming imo.

All the TVs I game on have relatively good input lag on "game mode". ~30 ms on my bedroom TV and 18.5 ms in my living room TV.

I actually also just bought a BenQ RL2755HM to play Sm4sh on and this has an input lag of 10 ms. Thank you Jet.com for 20% off first purchase

Oh yes, I have noticed the blur, but I refuse to change it yet.

Honestly, they were still great TVs. They're fine "all rounders" compared to today's offerings. As long as you're not especially sensitive to the blur. Which, unfortunately, I am. I can never come to your house and watch TV. We will never know what that would be like. I guess you could come to my house.

I use normal mode.

I wonder though, if it there is any possibility of a TV actually enhancing a game console's image.

A TV that does anti-aliasing, or renders more FPS?

Nah.
Just hope we get Gsync built into TV's in the next 5-10 years.

Motion plus, smooth mode does this but with very bad artifacting.

People should try turning all their TV'S processing settings on just to see how badly it affects your games latency. Game mode with everything off is the way to go.

I game on a Pioneer Kuro plasma. It has a 'Game' option but I've never noticed lag using 'Movie' mode - is it just a problem for LCD displays?

i do everything in Game mode. for both movies and games. looks fine. it depends if your TV can handle it well.

It seems like a lot of people in this thread don't realize that you can calibrate game mode to near perfection just like you can any other movie mode. It won't be quite as good since most TVs have to disable certain settings to achieve the low latency, but it should be close. I had my TV's game mode calibrated alongside day/night modes for movies and I can't see any noticeable difference when switching back and forth. There's no reason to not use game mode for video games.

Indeed. When I eventually do upgrade my TV it will have the best image quality I can afford. That should, therefore, mean that if it has a game mode I should still be able to get an image that's as close to its ultimate potential as possible for gaming as well as its other intended applications.

No, mostly because I can't remember where to turn it on. It's buried somewhere in the menus and I can't be arsed to find it. Games seem to work fine without it, but that might be because I've gotten used to it.

Yep. I just picked up a new Samsung 4K and without game mode the input lag is insanely high, but with game mode it's probably the lowest input lag I've experienced on a tv. Love it.
