Who collected them? I remember get a Mewtwo - good stuff.

We have one actually. Found it for 99c at a Goodwill, without the gold card of course.

My son stores his Minecraft mini figures in it.

I remember because I was in one when they ran out and they started substituting the toys with a poster and parents were PIIIIISSSSSSED. I thought they were going to burn the restaurant down.

Oh the gold card ones. I thought you meant the less-extravagant toy ones that had the little rubber guys.

I think I have a Mewtwo somewhere.

LOL, I remember when i was in 5th grade, like a year or two after these came out, this one kid had a Poliwhirl one. And he was bragging about how his parents had it custom made out of 24 karat gold for like 5 grand. So of course I called him out on it(surprisingly i seemed to be the only one who remembered these), And to prove it I showed him my gold Charizard and Gold jigglypuff. The kid just said that mine where obviously fake since they where from burgerking. I ended up selling them both for 50 bucks to some kid that same day.

On December 11, 1999, a 13-month-old girl in Sonora, California suffocated on the container, and was found dead in her playpen with half of the ball covering her nose and mouth.

...

A $1 million recall campaign was initiated by Burger King, which included television advertisements [7] and warnings on take-out bags and tray liners from their restaurants.[8] More than 100,000 notices and fliers were sent to health-care providers and sites frequented by Pokémon fans.[9] Despite this, a 4-month-old boy in Indianapolis, Indiana died of suffocation on January 25, 2000 in his crib.

Yes I remember having a few. Too many chansey spinners though. Only got one Blastoise and Pikachu.

And then they also gave those Pokemon movie cards.

Edit: oh the gold card ones, nah, I only got one from my friend

I had a whole set of these from BK

Life was good...

I got this and Krillin. Then I lost both. lol

I had them in my closet, so I got them out to take a quick photo.

I remember my mom telling me that she couldn't buy them when I first asked for one. Of course it turned out that she'd already gotten the whole set to save as a Christmas gift.

I still have them all in storage somewhere. I worked at BK when they came out, so naturally I stole everything.

Man, we sold out of those toys so fucking fast.

"I don't WANT a Wild Wild West Jim toy! It's the first day of the new Pokemon toys!"
"Well you shoulda got here three hours ago you little fuck! We sold out!"

I believe these were the ones you can buy and they also had the plastic pokeballs (that were recalled) with plush toys. Off the top of my head I remember having a Butterfree plush from it.

You know what's funny? There were so many millions of Pokemon things that you think thrift stores and second hand shops would be full of them. Much like they're full of Twilight, Critchton and King novels. I shop around for nostalgic shit all the time and find things like classic GI Transformers, the occasionally He-men, TMNT sometimes (most rarely). Never Pokemon stuff.

But shockingly, I think our generation held on to them like they were Excalibur itself. I haven't even seen a second hand Jigglypuff in those mounds of stuffed animals you see in every Goodwill.

I remember having a lot of the BK Kids Club Pokemon toys and all of the gold cards back then but I seemingly lost them in a move. :(

I did find a bag of some of the BK Pokemon mini-plush toys (Gyarados, Golbat, & Togepi) for a few bucks at a thrift shop recently though. :)

DAMN.

Those were after my time. The only Burger King toys I even remember were the crappy ones from the Beetlejuice cartoon.

BK Kids Club sucked in general. It just felt so second-class compared to McDonalds.

Yeah the BK in the town where I grew up in had a contest and I actually won it along with some other girl.

I got all the toys and the cards as well. Felt amazing at the time as I was only 6 or 7 and really into pokemon at the time.

My mom did the exact same thing. Said she wasn't going to drive to every Burger King in the area to get all of them, then on Christmas morning there they were.

Moms are awesome.

The plush toys were from KFC, I believe.

Nice collection! Do you remember how much they cost?

I think they were only $2 or $3 each.

Bulbapedia has a nice list of all the toys from that promotion.

I never realized they could come in red or blue boxes. All of mine are still in their blue boxes. Matching set!

EDIT: http://web.archive.org/web/20000302001440/http://www.pokemon.com/news/bktradingnights.html

Additionally, customers have been able to purchase one of six collectible 23K gold-plated trading cards for $1.99 with the purchase of any value meal since November 15, while supplies last. The six characters are #25 Pikachu™, #151 Mewtwo™, #39 Jigglypuff™, #61 Poliwhirl™, #06 Charizard™, and Togepi™.

They got Mewtwo's number wrong.

Got 5 of those 6 gold-plated cards. Think I'm missing Jigglypuff because as a kid, that was the lamest Pokemon. Don't think I have the balls, though.

I remember the fact the toys had to be recalled due to the Pokeballs causing kids to choke & would give anyone a free order of small fries if you gave them back. Even as a kid, I questioned why they couldn't just give the Pokemon toys away without the ball, which they did the year after.

I also recall having a poster that listed every single Pokemon toy on it, but I think it got water damaged or I sold it or something.
