Do you have "go to" character names?

I use whatever default/canon name because i don't ever identify myself with these characters and i don't ever identify them as anyone but who they are supposed to be. I always found it weird to like rename Link for instance.

As for MMO's i have always just used a random name generator or a name i am fond of.

To answer the OP...

I use my name Stuggernaut for melee type characters, tanks in RPGs, etc.

Otherwise I have a list of names I use for most any game... Klael being one of my main go-to names for going on 20 years now. And then a variety of the same name with differnt first letter - Eonix, Aonix, Ionix, Oonix, and Uonix.

Ezekiel for pretty much every male character I make.

He's carried me through several souls games and the last 4 Bethesda games.

Well in RPG's I usually either go with my own name, or Gideon. I always liked Gideon because it meant "Great warrior" in hebrew I think, and I always go spellswords, or just full melee in most of my builds.

>:) for everything. It just works. Except for those games that discriminate against >:), then it's AngryHappyFace or some variation

jon or bones or hanuman for a male character

female names i take the setting/vibe of the game into acct and come up with something

Started off back in Warcraft with the name Nayrixx which is just an anagram of my name (Kinda) with male characters, then Aeyana for females. No idea where that came from but it's stuck with me!

I use "Erana" and create a female whenever I can.
If I can't I just use my real name, or preferably use a "default" name if that's an option.

Always choose female, always make her a redhead, always choose the name Toadette.

So far Toadette has stopped the Reapers from destroying post-apocalyptic Boston while summoning Solaire to help take over more territory for the 3rd Street Saints from Alduin. Also she seems to be into weird alien bug-lizard men considering that she's hooked up with both Garrus and that one Argonian miner. I believe soon she's going to some planet called Mira to stomp out monsters in her giant anime robot.

Assface, regardless of setting or gender. Assface everything. Dragon Quest IV named my town St. Assfacesburg.

If it asks for a last name, McDohl from Suikoden 1.

I use either my name, or Salacia. The latter especially in MMOs whenever I make a mage, or a warlock. I also pick different names I'd feel are fitting depending on the theme of the game.

For high fantasy settings, Anakh for males and Velerae for females.
For more grounded settings, James for males and Rachel for females.
No particular reason, I just really hate thinking up names for my characters, so I've been reusing those to avoid getting stuck on character creators.

Though for games with no multiplayer component where I don't care about atmosphere I sometimes go with the likes of Fuckface McMurder. Whole generations of my Dungeons of Dredmor heroes fought and died with names like these.

Male: THIEF (in all caps)
Femal: Marin

Those are the first character names that come to mind when I think about videogame names. I only use them when I am forced to, otherwise I leave the names as they are.

Fisher, Ryo, The Starbinger or Piss Mat.

Whichever seems most appropriate.

It's usually Piss Mat.

Edit: Elise for a female. But again, only if it beats Piss Mat.

Edit 2: I've also used 'Hiro' (ie. Hero) if it's a silent RPG protagonist like DQ8 or Chrono Trigger..though Crono was 'Trigs' on some playthroughs

I usually just use Eddie/Eddie Bax, and leave the secondary characters with whatever their pre-set names are.

My girlfriend often uses 'Aaaaaaaaaaa,' out of laziness (and it's become a running joke between us). Tends to undercut the seriousness of some RPGs.

For some RPG like Stick of Truth and arcade type games I use my stage name Shaky.

If I play a good character, which is typically male, I go with Nanoc (Conan backwards).

If I play an evil character, typically female, I always use Betty (Kung Pow antagonist).

I was playing uncharted 2 and a friend wanted suggestions for a PSN name. I came up with Shambala Joe. He never used it, and after using the name for my femshep 'Shammy Balla' is pretty much my go to.

That or Chad Sportsjock. Or Sports Johnson.

Normally I go with what sounds right in-universe, but I admit to liking humorous names. For example, my Fallout character is always named "Cam Raderie." Camaraderie, geddit?

Kirye if male, Aurelia if female.

Kirye is derived from my real name backwards (Erick). Not at all clever.

Aurelia I believe is a moon from Jupiter? I don't remember I just like the name.

Nos
Nostre
Nostremi
Nostremitu
Nostremitus
(Depends on the gender and how many letters are allowed)

Or Tith Shepard in Mass Effect (FemShep)

I don't spend too much time trying to come up with names, lol.

Just my name. Boring I know but I was pretty excited when they said Jim in the Fallout 4 opening scenes.

That poor voice actor.
