i sold my ps5 because 1st party games didnt interest me but now there are 3rd party games that looks awsome

GTA 6
Phantom blade 0
Saros
Resident Evil requiem ( on pc aswell but denuvo might make it run bad )
Onimusha ( same case )

Now im thinking of buying a ps5 pro for those games but my friend told me to wait and play them on ps6 because it will most likely run ps5 disk , should i do as he says ?

Saros is first party. PS6 probably won't be til 2028. I bet it'll be digital only but with an option to buy the disc drive that will play ps5 discs.

It should do, I had high hopes the PS5 would have the level of backward compatibility like the early PS3 did, but that was nowhere to be found....

it will use a blu ray drive, therefore it will play all/most PS4, PS5 and PS6 games. With PS1, PS2, PS3 games being playable in the way they currently do. Also November 2027 is most likely the slated date if history is accurate.

According to GAF the PS6 might be a portable, in which case no

The Ps5 Pro doesn't come with a built-in disc drive and 99% certainty that the PS6 won't either - so unless you REALLY want the physical media on your bookshelf you'd be better just buying those five games on digital and saving ÂŁ150 from buying disc drive's for both machines.

Do you really want it? Do you know exactly when the PS6 will be released?
If you have the money, why deprive yourself?

The answer is simple.

Yes. But I think this time the disc drive will be an optional addon for all SKUs, mostly focused for BC and physical movies.

BTW I would decide soon if you are considering buying a PS5. It's only a matter of time before the prices get set back. And that's not even including any price hikes incoming because of the memory.

Yes, that shouldn't be an issue.
The only questions are what Sony will price the drive at and how available it will be in certain regions that now lean heavily digital.

It's time to let go of discs. They're floppy, dainty, too large for portability, make noise and are cumbersome. They take up too much room and end up just being a key to the game on your drive.

I'd be surprised if they move to give up their floor space at retail entirely. The drive will be an add-on option for both PS5 & PS6 games.

I imagine you have a carefully curated physical game collection, dear Watterson. Am I correct?

Nah, buying the bluray drive is a better option. Even if Sony will be limiting production again (which would lead to high prices for early adopters) you'll still be ahead after playing & reselling a certain number of games.

Plus it's not like you have to buy it bundled with the new console. You can wait a few months for the prices of the drives to drop to reasonable levels.

I think that's what's going to change with PS6. They are going to milk every last cent from physical lovers.

I think it will play PS4 and PS5 discs, but only on an optional disc drive sold separately.

Since the disc drive is an extra peripheral, most people won't have it, meaning there will be very little incentive to have physical versions of new games.

I imagine very few PS6 games, if any, will have disc versions and the add-on drive will mainly exist just for backwards-compatability purposes.

Probably, but it won't come with a drive, I don't expect any model will, you'll have to buy the drive separately if you want one.

it should be, no backward compatibility is a bummer. but might be sold separately : /
If there is optical media it will come separate, I have no doubt about that. They want people buying digitally so "not included" as the default option "to keep prices down" makes sense. However I doubt it will play PS4 games, it might be added at a later date if ever.

Worst case scenario I expect a built-in disc model and a digital model like the start of this gen, just with a different split between, where for PS5 it was probably 1000 disc units to 1 digital, whereas this time I would expect 500 to 500 of each or 300 - 700 in favour of the digital model.

Marketing a PS6 without a built-in disc launch console option diminishes the image of PlayStation as a brand IMO, and I think the awkward non-disc console logo on the digital slim/Pro shows that Sony knows the hostility to all-digital and upselling an expected feature that every PlayStation gen has launched with.

They can upsell drives later in the gen, and use the built-in disc model as a stalking horse price to make the digital version appear cheaper at a higher price point at launch. Without a built-in drive model the marketing and communication to disc owner earlier adopters loses marketing momentum IMO, and out the gate they know you want every drop you can get to repeat past success.

So yes, it will play everything PS5 does, even if that changes down the road - like the launch PS3 that dropped many features all the way up to and including the Slim launch.
