Do you wash your hands before gaming?

i wash my hands after i use the bathroom, when i get food on them or when i'm preparing food for other people besides myself. otherwise i feel my hands are clean enough to go without washing them before gaming or anything else.

Am I prepping for surgery or something?

No I don't wash my hands before gaming. I'm pretty good at washing my hands throughout the day, I actually wash my hands after gaming because my hands sometimes get clammy while playing.

My hands aren't gross when I start gaming, and my controllers are never gross. I wash my hands if/when there is a reason to, not specifically related to gaming...

Yes, and it's a rule I insist on for guests.

Too many bad mid-2000s memories of playing Halo at friend's houses with their greasy ass controllers that are no doubt covered with pizza grease and cum.

Guests consistently find it odd, but I think it makes perfect sense.
This. There's no exception for ANYONE. Only clean and washed hands touch my controllers. If guests complain, they can't play. Simple as that.

Also, I NEVER eat while gaming. If I'm hungry, I pause the game, eat something, wash my hands and get back to playing.

Not exactly, but I don't play with dirty hands either. I routinely wash with plain water. I keep track of what I do before I game, if dirty they do get washed. Computer peripherals get wiped down daily though, and controllers stay clean.

You're fine OP.

Depends, if I do anything that gets my hands dirty (eating chips, bathroom, etc) then yes, but not EVERY time.

But hey, whatever floats your boat.

I always wash my hands before I touch my controller or handhelds.

If my friends come over to play some games they know the first thing to do is go to the bathroom and wash their hands too before they start playing.

I keep my hands pretty clean so not usually. I will however do it sometimes before playing with my Vita since I like to keep the screen clean.

I only wash my hands before playing if they are visibly dirty (or feel dirty/greasy). And honestly, I would have washed them anyways long before the urge to pick up a controller entered my mind. I'm pretty anal about having clean hands, but it has little to do with germs. Also, I secretly enjoy digging the gunk out of the seams of my controller, so that's not a problem to me. I rarely eat while playing, though, and if I do I'm pretty careful about maintaining clean hands.

100% every time and if you want to play when you're at my house you'll do the same. I can't stand greasy controller syndrome.

Yes. i wish more people would do this.

after working at Gamestop, the amount of controllers traded in that looked and felt like someone wiped their ass with it (on numerous occasions) it's disgusting. Wash your damn hands people, you're not as clean as you think you are.

I'm starting to think half of GAF's controllers look like this:

Every single time, thoroughly; and often to the detriment of my skin. I'm actually very OCD about washing my hands and video game hardware/software is high on the list of things of mine that can't be touched unless hands are washed. Blows my mind that people can just touch that stuff without a good scrub.

i lick assholes, why would a controller bother me

That just made me shudder.

I really don't understand how this is a question. Why wouldn't you want to make sure your hands are clean before handling your electronics?
I understand for the people who say they typically wash their hands 15 times a day, they may not need the extra washing immediately before picking up the controller. But if you only wash your hands after using the bathroom and before/after meals... your hands are nowhere near as clean as you think they are.
Small amounts of oil from your skin, bits of dust and dirt, all build up over time and can leave your controllers etc in a pretty sad state.

Please, consider washing your hands. For the poor controllers of the world.
And we haven't even brought up the topic of dirty hands and game discs...

Absolutely! Always with super hot water. Not because my hands are dirty, but because it relaxes my hands while eliminating any sweat on my palms.

I try to do this, especially if I've been eating or if it's just been a reasonable amount of time between my last hand washing.

Not specifically before gaming, no. But I wash my hands over a dozen times throughout the day as a practice. Having dirty hands is a bugaboo of mine.

this, it got so bad one time that i washed too often my hands started to get yelloish of too much Dial liquid soap

i cant even stand the natural oil the hand produces

When I first got my 360 at launch I made my friends wash their hands first. I wanted keep those sweet white controllers pristine. I stopped caring after a while though. Nowadays, I'll wash my hands if they feel grimy or greasy before playing. Just don't like the feeling.

All these years I thought I was insane. I wash my hands before touching any controllers/keyboards. It has gotten to the point where my friends and family just automatically go wash their hands before touching any of my stuff.

Mihalis

3 things I do before gaming:
1) Go to bathroom and pee/poop do whatever you need to get done.( if needed)
2) Wash hands thoroughly
3) Grab a drink- No food
This way there are no interruptions for a while.......unless I had TACO BELL or something ;)

Yea. I know a lot of people who don't and their controllers get downright duuuuurty. There's also the used ones in the bags at Gamestop that look like they were used as a platform for someone's grime collection.

I have too much respect for my belongings to not clean my hands before handling them.

Absolutely. My Gamecube controllers are gross. Ever since I noticed that, I've become something of a freak when it comes to washing my hands with soap.

This so much. And no snacks while gaming... (Especially board games) Drinks ok.

I wash my hands like 15 times a day anyway, so I guess yes?

I'm very picky about my electronics, I clean it all regularly and clean them whenever someone that doesn't live with me has touched them. And no food near my console or its controller, and no food on my goddamn desk that has any chance of splattering. I used to work custodial at a Costco, so I know how fucking filthy people can be.

Also, lol at licking assholes.

I like to rub both my hands and controller with fried chicken and cheetos before playing.

Edit: Damnit I wrote this joke before seeing that picture. GAF you are too fast/the same in humor.
