TECMO ANNOUNCES SHIP DATE FOR DEAD OR ALIVE 4
Boasting a lightning fast fighting engine, worldwide online capabilities, and unsurpassed visual beauty, Dead or Alive 4 will be the premier title when it explodes onto store shelves on December 29, 2005

TORRANCE, Calif. December 28, 2005— Tecmo proudly announced today that Dead or Alive® 4, the highly anticipated next installment in its hugely popular fighting series, will ship to major retailers nationwide on December 29, 2005. The highly awaited title for the next-generation Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft will set the new standard for fighting games, boasting the most advanced online fighting system in the world via the Xbox Live ® online game service. Dead or Alive 4 will break new ground on Xbox Live featuring simultaneous 4-player tag battle for the first time in the series, up to 16-players online at one time, and a stylized and accessible online lobby system that allows players to choose an avatar and a “theme” for their house which will serve as their online lobby that other players can visit to get matched up for a fight.

Featuring the most fast and furious fighting engine to ever grace a video game, Dead or Alive 4 is positioned to not only take the fighting community by storm but to raise the bar for the fighting genre when it blasts onto store shelves later this month only on Xbox 360. An impressive line-up of new, old, and unlockable secret characters, breathtaking, “Hollywood Style” cinematic ending movies, and in-depth interactive stages round out the list of Dead or Alive 4 features poised to make the game a “must buy”.

“Dead or Alive 4’s unsurpassed visual beauty, worldwide online capabilities, and finely tuned fighting engine make it the game to own on Xbox 360,” John Inada, Tecmo’s General Manager, said. “No other fighting game on the market today will be able to match its depth, strategy, and awe-inspiring visuals. Dead or Alive 4 will be a force to be reckoned with.”

Wow, them's fightin words.

how about no other developer actually cares enough to put their 3D fighting game online? infact, aside from MK, is there another 3D online fighting game? its bullcrap that sega, namco, etc. can't dedicate enough people to get at least a bare minimum online system up and running after all these years. unacceptable!

From where?

gamestop.com. there is no deal, i just had to pay the $9.99. the good thing is that they don't tax me, so the way i justify paying the extra $10 is by saying "well, you aren't getting taxed, so there's $5 you would've spent, plus the time and gas money you saved from not having to go out and buy it" and after having that conversation with myself, i see it is a good decision

Cool. Just asking to see if they had a different ship date since both EB and GS say shipping 12/30 which would mean we wouldnt have it on Friday.

Excellent!

DOA4 is one of the first 360 games to render 1080i natively rather than scale it from 720p so should look sweet on my 1080i direct-view TV.

VF will be playable online when we somehow violate several laws of physics.

edit: I wasn't trying to turn this into a VF/SC/DOA pissing match btw, I'm eagerly awaiting (and buying) DOA4 to see what they did with it. Itagaki sounds like they really tightened this one up, but whether it can compete with VF remains to be seen. The point above is that traditionally 'less tight' games like MK and DOA with fewer actions that require timing of frames in the single digits are infinitely more receptive to play under conditions with latency.

Friday. Shipdate is almost never the arrival date.

No offense, but games arrive in store on the ship date fairly often. Usually the store manager needs to make special trip to a UPS/DHL/etc. distribution center, but it does happen.

This is also a special case. I really think the pressure was on Tecmo to get this out by the end of the year. The decision to release it now instead of next Tuesday was more about taxes and write-offs.

Your in luck! Go play ridge racer 6!

But seriously, its more of a case of a shitty backbone to the internet then distance.
You could live in the same state, but the connection could still jump 6 times, causing enough lag to be noticed.

oh no, there's quite a bit of preciseness offline that can't be replicated in online DOA, as seen with DOAU... that's where terms like "lag tactics" and "online safe moves" came from...

nobody who's serious about fighting games expects online to be the same as offline, it's just that it's better than nothing...

a.) why would that offend me
b.) 9/10 cases, I would say that isn't so. I pre-order all the time, so I'd say this is the exception to the rule rather than the case. But DoA4 is probably a special case, so it may be one of those times.

you all. will be. destroyed.
