It seems like consensual romance puts a coffin on a show's romance plot or subplot and they lack any creativity to make it meaningful so usually they leave any reciprocated romance till the final episodes. Until then they try to titillate you threw these cheap methods.
They don't just bring it up - they acknowledge it as an unnatural phenomenon that the main character "suffers" from in part due to his repressed libido, and at one point they even build a device specifically designed to counter his ridiculous "trips" by counter-thrusting his body parts away.
Only, his ability is too strong even for science.
A talented mangaka wouldn't be using that trope in the first place, lol.

Basically it went from sexual assault being ok if you're really old, to sexual assault being ok if you just take a little bit of extra time to recover from an accident, to sexual assault being ok if it's girl on girl.
I have absolutely no problem with fan service if it fits the series, but all of those things are just the worst of the worst of anime tropes and tropes in general. Honestly the accidental fall is probably the least bad of those three, since they don't always show the character clearly taking full advantage of the situation.
I want to reread Love Hina again. That's the one manga that never fails to crack me up no matter how many times I read it.
All those tropes should have died after it ended because there's absolutely no way anything could have surpassed the ridiculous usage of them in that manga. Even the girls spent the entirety of Volume 11 getting their comeuppance for all their previous actions.

Garbage trope that has ruined many an anime. Tried browsing a few new shows that had popped up on Netflix and...yeah. Still a thing, I guess. The other cliche that drives me mad is the younger sister 'whorshipping' (not a typo) her older brother. Just why. WHY. Is their target audience so sad that the also pathetic trope of the 'over-admiring sister' has to be taken to even more absurd heights? I'm looking at you, The Irregular at Magic High School! Such a waste of halfway decent fight scenes.

I used to hate anime. I thought it was just big-eyed, rainbow-haired, saccharine garbage designed solely to pander to sexually repressed man-babies, frustrated teens, and pedophiles. Unfunny jokes, the same tired old clichés copy-pasted onto cardboard characters only discernable by breast size, and whether they originate from space, a video game, a package in the mail, or the protagonist's dreams.
Then I saw the guy-trips-onto-boobs gag. It's hilarious!!!! I will only watch an anime series if this wonderful piece of Nipponese frivolity occurs in the first episode, and then I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for it to happen again! I like to watch these gags once in the original Japanese, then I'll watch the whole episode again in English immediately after in order to see the boob-trip voiced in my native language. I also enjoy watching these dramatic scenes in Spanish and French and German and Italian too; but I don't need to rewatch whole episodes for context in those cases. It's mainly about the masculine exclamations of embarrassed surprise juxtaposed against the feminine growls of weary indignation. Pure farcical bliss.
Sometimes I compile scenes featuring guys accidentally falling into women's cleavage and post them on YouTube accompanied by Jay Z tracks. My best one is 93 minutes long, and has been viewed over 14 million times. Just Bing "guy boobs falling comp" and my vids are the first 12 results. Enjoy!

The trope that the OP is talking about, or the premise of guys being in an all-girls school? Because I was referring to the latter. Although I'm like 99% positive that the former has also happened though, because much, much worse (funnier) things have happened in Prison School, to both the boys and girls.

Actually in the last chapter Nemesis gives Rito back everything he's done to the girls to show him what its like for them (and no, its not about comeuppance but to help explain how he works in their eyes and that he's got some of them hot and bothered) by using one of Lala's temporary gender switching gun and then morphing into male Rito and being as clumsy as he is by groping female Rito.
It's still a nice read and a contrast in how the anime outright upped a lot of it. Hell, in the episode 25 special that introduced Tsuruko it began with Naru pissed off when she left Keitarou behind while the manga version had an awkward non-violent scene between them as he had confessed to her and she still wasn't sure how to respond to him.

I was going to say this. Ayanami being unphased while Shinji freaking out both subverts the trope and underscores the lack of Rei's personality.
That guy referenced Urasei Yatsura and showed footage of Ranma 1/2.
I think we can safely ignore his opinions from now on.

The entire point is how these tropes apply to so many different anime the "meta" is so similar they can be swapped around without care.

That only works if both examples feature whatever he's talking about. Did Gundam Wing have multiple harem spin-off manga?
And then the very next episode or following season they act like no major breakthrough happened and reset their relationship.

Watched the first episode of Seven Deadly Sins yesterday (on recommendation, and largely because it's one of extremely few anime series on Swedish Netflix), and boob squeezing happens at least 2-3 times in those 20 minutes. Ugh.

It was fun when I was a teenager ~15 years ago and it was Love Hina. It's gotten a bit stale now, of course.

But yeah, to OP, that was never funny, one of the worst things that ever happens in manga anime.
Worst than that just the "I love you, even if I have never seen you before, heck, I still don't know who you are! But fuck it, I love you no matter what!" cliche.
I thought it was funny at first, but now it's just annoying. Especially when it's clearly an accedent.

It's really fucking stupid and it's one of the reasons why a lot of anime is rightfully branded as gutter trash.
Even doing it as a parody of itself is overdone to the point of stupidity. If you're going to make fun of it, you better be REALLY good at it.

It's not just the "fall in cleavage" thing, but pretty much any accidental sexually embarrassing thing and the guy gets assaulted for it when its not his fault. It's difficult to take the characters involved seriously afterwards.
To be fair I roll my eyes at any "accidental" sexual or romantic thing, like in Hollywood when people fall or roll away from an explosion onto each other then stare at each other. Dumb.

Every episode of NGE ended with them teasing more fan service. I think its a very obviously on purpose joke given everything else going on in the series.
Because they're always too damn shy (or tsundere) to confess their feelings to each other.
That's an old Jackie Chan movie thing for sure. Haven't seen it in any anime I've watched (probably happened in High School of the Dead but that was pretty poor so I don't remember anymore). Last time I saw it was for the Chinese woman's DoA4 winning movie where she annihilates some poor perv (older man who accidentally grabs her breasts) by kicking him out of the train into the water or pit below.

It's usually a contrived way of telling the audience "OUR FEMALE CHARACTER HAS BOOBS" without being completely shameless in its cinematography to just make your female character look like an actual pinup model. It's also the worst cliche in anime ever.

Seems like one of those tropes that only "works" in a culture of social awkawardness towards the opposite sex. The butt of the joke is on the man grabbing the girl, who ends up heavily embarrassed and maybe even prone to getting a smack from the girl.
In a lot of other countries, this would just be "great I grabbed a boob. Sweet." and so it wouldn't work as a hapless "loser protagonist" trope.
