I mentioned it when called on my number of posts per day. I never brag on my personal situation. I don't care who does or does not envy me. As if 11 posts a day is tough to get or in any way negates my point that there are too many here and elsewhere on the net making zero attempt to get out and have a life.


Florida for the winter is amazing. They are giving houses away right now. It was hard to say no.

That said the governor here is a chimp, there's still smoking indoors, and they haven't banned texting while driving yet so yeah it's backwards as fuck. But for myself and my partner, it's so much fun. Tons to do outdoors, fantastic weather and plenty of social opportunities. Still cannot wait to get back to Chicago and our friends and fam.

If it makes you feel any better OP, the day I got home for spring break I became crazy sick and couldn't do anything but sit on the couch in pain all day... that kinda sucked.

If you're jealous of people having a good time, go out of your way to be one of those people :P

I was saying that about those who are complaining about not having lives. I wasn't elevating myself until the douchery was directed my way with the post count thing. I just explained that in the post you yourself quoted.

There is no excuse for not having lives for many of them. Go out and seize life by the fucking balls.

Yep. Its an enabler for incredibly insecure people. I use mine to share links and Youtube videos. It's rare when I post, "I'm at X doing Y". As if any of my "friends" actually give a shit.
 
While not depressed about seeing people partying, most all of my friends had their spring break last week, so most of my time was spent by myself, which I didn't necessarily mind, it was kinda nice to have time to myself.
 
I feel happier watching those people do stuff like that.

It reaffirms to me that they are all much more unhappy than me because they have to use their money to leave their current situation and become very addicted to escapism.

Leaving an irritating life behind you for a weekend is a fools game. Make your current life better.

joined because a good friend asked me to. for 2 years, i had one friend. then few ppl found out... i had only 3-4 friends... deleted it.

Yes, they do.

People are a lot less interesting than they think they are. People will give girls some slack for that because usually it gives them an excuse to post some cleavage or a tight fitting shirt while writing about how cRaZy things are at their university rec center.
 
It's awesome! I was partying last night and when drunk I usually post one FB status about it. A girlfriend saw it and they appeared at the party we were. See? FB is awesome. Even better when you get on at 4AM, see a girl online and start having horny conversations.

Love Facebook to be honest =P
 
This is part of the reason I de-activated my facebook account. My life is really shitty right now because of some bad mistakes in the past, and everytime I went on fb it just reminded me of where i am, where i'm not in my life, etc. things like that because it seemed like everyone else is in school having fun, has a girlfriend/boyfriend, and so on.

It kinda got to the point where i'd check facebook more often in a masochistic-kind of way in order to try to motivate/depress me enough to do something about my own life. I found this very un-productive though over time and it made me worse. I ended up de-activating and after a few months without it i've done way more now without it.

I think facebook is great if you have a normal life, some good friends, etc. things like that, then it's good to stay in contact with people and it's a fun little time waster, but if you're lonely or have no/few friends, depressed often etc. then it's definitely going to fuck you up mentally if you see all the people from your past having great lives and you're not.

I think Facebook is mostly a young persons game. You get older those best friends move on etc. My best friend, like a brother to me, went to a different college, haven't seen the guy or spoken to him since 96'. Of course now its getting brought into the corporate workplace with companies having their own internal Facebook like sites. Be sure to add you hobbies!!! Well fuck you guys my hobbies are none of your business. Put down your skills and collaborate with your coworkers!! Sounds like ways to find myself more work I don't have time for and then get blamed when my advice doesn't pan out.

My facebook friends list is filled up with folks I went to high school with(not friends) and haven't seen or spoken to in 20 years and strangers I added to get enough friends to build a bigger farm. I'm guessing to some of my high school folks I look pretty interesting with friends from all over the world lmao.

I think as you get older all of these 'friends' just get more and more ridiculous especially as you realize most of the people you knew in school were assholes and you are only their friend because you are waiting for tragedy to befall them so you will know about it. Once you get out of school, have a family etc you don't find yourself having much time for friends. To be honest it is get up, go to work, come home, dinner, homework, hang out for a couple hours and bed.

My wife has high school friends, some ex work friends and family on hers. I swear some people just post shit to post shit.. stuff like "Does anyone have money for a coke?" Stuff like that.. just stupid comment several times a day. "Why is the sky blue?" just wtf.. shut up already.

I guess this grouchy old man doesn't get it. If I'm going to waste time online with strangers I'd rather do it on forums like GAF who at least have a bit of common interest I do.
 
OR...You could get all of your internet related activities at work (FB/GAF/articles etc). That way you have free time after to do other things. I didn't use facebook very much until they added chat.

Most people Im friends with on FB spend most of their time bitching about it. A couple of my friends have actually deleted theirs. I don't use it that much since I've moved to twitter and tumblr and only use it for discounts that some companies post and admin-ing a fan page.
 
I opened up Facebook to see one of the Bro type guys I used to work with update his status from Korea with "Spent the day in the DMZ. Was choice!"

Shouldn't set me off but it annoyed me to high hell.

People don't post up on Facebook, "well, another day, another 24hr period that I've contributed nothing to the GNP" or "well, it's official. I can't have children". So many people put on there what they consider to showcase their AMAZING and full lives, perfect marriages, 100% angel children, and that they're the best looking of all their friends, male or female. Some of it may be true, but not all of it.

Case in point, my family is going through a bad, but navigable situation. It's not a tragedy, but it's not a comedy either. The catalyst to all the trouble is just in la-la land. Her Facebook is so convoluted that we all just nuked her from our friends list. Passive-aggressive? Yeah I kind of think so, I've suggested we just put her on a custom list to save us from having to look at her idiot posts. Her Twitter is a whole other situation.

Anyway I understand what you mean and I've seen it first hand and you must know this is common, and usually contrived thing. Cheer up. I hear you. I definitely do.

Hmmmm. I don't see it like that at all. IMBD comments and YouTube comments are on an entirely different planet compared to what's seen here because they're usually so ill-informed and extreme on either side. There have been a few depressing threads lately - yes. But YouTube & IMDB seriously are so much worse. I actually feel quite comfortable expressing opinions, even mildly personal stuff here.

Untrue, at least as far as many of my friends go. I've seen posts about post-break up angst, depression, alcoholism, overweight, illnesses of their children or themselves.... and so forth.

I always find myself wanting to call people out on dumb shit so I don't log in often. That and I have nothing interesting to add usually since I'm not one of those mundane status people.

I also think the longer you have signed up onto Facebook, the less you use it. I have friends who were Facebook fiends in 2005 now check it maybe once a week or every other week. Most pictures that people posted were from 2004-2007 and now maybe have one every once in a while, usually a picture of their fiancee or wife/husband. I remember when parties would get advertised on Facebook. Now if there are any hangouts, it has went back to just calling or texting people instead. We've come full circle.

It's odd how different things seem to be over there, and over here. FB is now more active than ever. Almost all of my real life friends are using it, and there's constantly something going on, be it parties or something else.

But I guess the difference might be due to the fact, that the vast majority of my friends play in a band, or are a part of the music scene in some other way, ie. running a record label, magazine or organizing gigs.

any posts are ok, as long as they're not so frequent that you don't even have to know the person in real life to know what their day is like

maybe if you're older then facebook statuses can be more honest and genuine, but at 20 all these girls with their emotional boyfriend statuses and break ups are just looking for sympathy and attention.

You're right, recurring posts that center around the same theme can be tiresome.

Good point, yes so have I, but it's 90/10 (at least in my feed) in terms of "HEY LOOK AT ME HOLLAAAA" and "RIP Baxter you were the best."

Well, Facebook is worth what you put into it. For me these days, that's very little. I remember when it was open to college students only, and it finally came to our school: it was the bee's knees. But, over time, not only have I lost touch with old high school friends, but college friends as well. I got a full time job, got married, and now have a kid on the way. I still hang out with friends and do stuff, but it's pretty much settled into a core group. I'm not hitting up parties and meeting new people, and I've worked at the same place since graduation.

As such, there's just not a lot of new and interesting things happening on the Book of Faces. This is compounded by the fact that I've never been a contributor. Not only do I not post the mundane "Just devoured a Big Mac from McDonald's LOL!" updates, I don't even post the "just closed on our house," "got engaged," or "my wife's pregnant!" updates. Practically the only time I would even feel like posting anything would be in response to political drivel, but even then I would restrain myself and eventually just surmise that there's no reason to have that person on my friend's list anyway. So, as it stands, I still check daily, but moreso out of habit and less out of a near-addiction to the site.
 
I troll Facebook all the time. I love when I post a status targeting specific groups of people, and they 'like' it! Makes me laugh.

But I love to torture myself, so I continue to use it and read it. Huge hive mentality on there. Im from the Philly area, and when the phillies play, it's the worst. People will update their status 4-6 times during a game. Every Monday I see statuses complaining and every Friday statuses saying TGIF. I also love the ambiguous statuses targeting someone and calling them immature.
 
I actually love seeing my friends' FB shit. So many of them are married and have kids or have dropped out of college. Or are fat and bald now.

I'm 24 and I basically still live the same life I did at 18. I cannot imagine the lives of some of my friends. I can just see the dead looks in their eyes in their family portraits that get posted (always by the wife). Saddled with a wife, kids and a mortgage at 24. Likely balding and gaining weight. Probably getting crushed by mountains of debt. I guess it's what some of them want, but to me that's like a death sentence.

Yeah, there's always the dbag who posts naseauting, thinly veiled bragging status updates, but I guess I'm lucky because I actually don't have many people who do that on my friends list. Speaking of which, I've only got like 260 on mine, and that's a damn stretch. I'd say half of those people I haven't seen since I graduated in 2005. I cannot fathom how some people have 1,000+ friends on FB. I don't think I've even met 1,000 people in my entire life.

So people work hard, and then decide to go hang out, party, travel, etc., and that is somehow a sign that their actual lives suck? lol
 
the thing about FB that i don't like is that it makes certain things seem more important than they are, so i can see where the article is coming from. but i havent had one for years so who knows what even happens on there nowadays.

twitter is much more efficient imo
