Does anyone else think Pain and Gain looks awesome?

The Rock is bigger the ever. Wow. I commend him for staying natural too.

Is it confirmed that Dwayne Johnson does roids somewhere? I mean, he's huge, but all he has to do with his life is work out all day and show up on camera when they need him. I'm pretty sure I've always seen him portrayed as a really good guy in the media and really big on the whole role model thing, so he just doesn't seem like the kind of guy that would take steroids, especially considering how his college football career would've prepared him for a life of hard work, dietary discipline, and constant exercise. Not that there aren't steroids in college sports (or professional wrestling) but he just doesn't strike me as the type.

Also, movie looks totally awesome.

Lol. He was juicing in the 90s and put on like 60 pounds of muscle over a year and a half at 40. And tore muscles in two of his matches in the past 2 years.

Movie was weird, it was a telling of true events and so it felt drawn out and brutal at times. Not entirely what i was expecting but hey ill never need to see it aging, TBH it was a one time flick and i feel the same way about Scarface.

I thought the movie was pretty good, some weird parts I admit but overall it was a good film. I personally think this is Rock's best role he's ever played because it's out of character for what you expect from him.

Yeah it looks awesome. As disgraceful as some of Bay's movies have been - Transformers 2 and 3 are possibly the worst films I've ever seen - , I absolutely love Bad Boys II and The Rock. This looks fun.

Never truly understood this. You're not supposed take a Transformers film seriously in the first place.

Ninja's already got this covered but yeah, he's on stuff. Possibly even insulin/HGH, don't know. But that doesn't make him a bad guy. He was/is a pro wrestler, so he's not even 'cheating' in a sport. It's a personal choice that doesn't hurt anyone.

It's a really absurd movie. The tone it's taking towards such violent actions is oddly jovial - which accurately mirrors that of the "protagonists". But the film's perspective seems to be that of an outsider (since it constantly draws attention to the absurdity, and never forces itself to a single narrator). So I'm not sure what to take away from it. Is Bay in on the joke? Is it genuine? A satire? Both?

I did enjoy it though. I'll give it that.

saw it tonight an loved it. It was a lot funnier than I expected it to be. The Rock was great, and I was really surprised by how good the movie was.

Watched it. Enjoyed it. Much more enjoyable than Bay's Transformers movies(Lack of Leboeuf definitely helps). And Bay knows how to pick his babes. Hot damn Bar Paly.

Saw this last night. Rock was pretty damn funny.

Spoilers:

Crackhead, strung-out Rock trying to rob the armored truck and it's aftermath was the best part of the movie. Neighborhood watch scene was pretty good too. It's made funnier by the fact that his character is so out of his normal character.

Yeh I'm looking forward to it. Bay is at his best when he's in crazytown Miami with no grasp of irony. Bad Boys 2 was great.

I thought it was great. I have no idea why it's getting such middling reviews. In a lot of ways it reminded me of an amped up Coen brothers movie. And it's pretty mindblowing that most of the shit in the movie actually went down. Probably more truthful than Argo.

And The Rock is doing some next level shit with his character here. He's really impressed me this year in Snitch and this.

The Rock absolutely owns this movie and every scene he's in. Loved it and don't understand the rotten rating on rottentomatoes.

This movie is not a comedy at all. The trailers are very misleading. I would liken it much more to Requiem for a Dream than Bad Boys. And to the dude on the last page that spoiled the entire movie, shame on you.

I'd agree with the trailer being misleading. It's a very dark movie.

People who never thought the Rock could be funny should really watch The Rundown. Rock + SW Scott + Walken + Rosario. If you don't find that enjoyable, then you have no soul.

It's not about taking them seriously. They're films about robots beating the fuck out of each other, and they commit the worst crime a film can do, which is be boring. How do you make a film about robots fighting boring?

Bay did it. I don't know how.

Those people obviously didn't watch wrestling. No one could think he couldn't be funny if they've seen him selling Stone Cold Stunners.

Posted in the other thread but here it is.

I watched it last night, probably my favorite movie this year so far.

The cast and dialogues were perfect. Well paced and well directed.

The Rock and Marky Mark were awesome.

EDIT: There were some huge LOL moments.
The one where they trying to kidnap the guy in the parking lot, the scene trying to kill him etc.

Just got back from it. It was awesome. Hilarious, disturbing, loved it. The Rock was great in it. I think Shalhoub's character was awesome actually. Fucking hardcore.

Who played the Russian stripper? She's got the most perfect ass I've seen in some time.

I was excited for this movie until I read that thread here awhile ago about Marky Mark being an asshole who has assaulted people because of their race.

I saw an episode of 48 hours that covered the real story, it's kind of grossly inappropriate that this is being played for laughs. Watching the ads you'd almost think Walburg's character was a hero.

I just came back from it, and wow. What a surreal film. I had no idea it'd be this insane when I talked about in the OP. Once Wahlberg decided to put in the fourth finger of the "Doers plan" that's when shit hit the fan.

Honestly though, it was a great film. Very fast paced and it was never boring, and The Rock nailed his role. I just felt it was a little too cheesy for its own good at times, and they made the characters a little too stupid for the shit they achieved.

Definitely worth a watch though, and those reviews suck.

Still keen to see the movie at some point but I have to say that trailer was shit. Can't put my finger on exactly why but yeah.. it was hard to watch the whole trailer lol.

Yeah, the real story is incredibly horrific. And Wahlberg's character initially seems very sympathetic while Shalhoub is shown as a total asshat. But it's shown pretty quick that Wahlberg is a delusional moron whose incompetence is matched only the Rock's ridiculous biceps.

It does get fairly dark, but no one's painted in a positive light by the end, except maybe Ed Harris' character.

My audience was weird/sadistic. They were laughing out loud at everything. Including the really messed up things.
I liked the movie tho. Surprised it didn't have the usual "stereotypical" characters bay films usually have.

I knew there had to be a catch with this movie looking decent. Thought it was going to be latent racism or copying Horrible Bosses completely. Wasn't expecting "actually based on a horrifying real story and portrays monsters as heroes" but it fits the bill.

They weren't portrayed as heroes, they were portrayed as bumbling idiots the entire time. Comical idiots, but idiots nonetheless.

I was laughing at everything too. How is it sadistic? I just found some events in the movie very ridiculous and it was hard not to laugh your ass off.

It would probably be exhausting

My thoughts as well.

I did enjoy the film, but it's a one-watcher (can I coin that?) for sure. It could have had at least 20 minutes shaved off it. There were a lot of scenes that felt like what you'd find in the 'Deleted Scenes' section of a DVD/Blu-ray. The scene where Mackie is trying to convince Johnson the wonders of breast milk, for instance. It was sort of a funny scene I guess, but just felt tacked on for some reason.

There were a lot of little scenes like this throughout the movie, many of which could have been nixed to make the whole thing a more bearable experience.
