Does anyone here buy digital versions of games on the eShop?

Bought Layton 5 (and will buy the xixth one) digitally because I wanted it in English and it was only available in french here.

Outside of that I bought VLR, MH3U and AC:NL digitally because it was convenient (finding VLR in store was nigh impossible here, MH3U I just wanted to play it as early as possible, AC is a game that should always be on your console).

In general I like boxed copies better but I don't mind buying digitally sometimes. Don't give a shit about it being tied to hardware, I never lost a console or portable since I started gaming.

Many of us haven't either, assuming you mean misplaced, but we'd still prefer to be safe than sorry. And system failures ARE more common as of late, it was actually a serious worry I had with the Wii because the GPU was starting to get flaky and I invested quite a bit into the VC, it was enough to make me want a Wii U ASAP just to transfer everything over and not worry.

Though in the end there IS the factor that some games you won't be playing forever, nevermind your save data is toast regardless if the system dies. I just go for whatever I feel is best for each game, though the more I think about it the more appealing having less stuff around is.
Is there a list of Nintendo games not on the 3DS or Wii U eShop? I know Steel Diver and Kid Icarus: Uprising are both missing for some reason.
The Fatal Frame game isn't there either, and both it and Kid Icarus came with physical content that was unique to the game, though Kid Icarus could easily just excise that because how REALLY cares about those damn cards, and the stand's not really essential to play, just convenient potentially.

I understand people that live in the US or Europe have their reasons and the account system issues, but where I live I have to import from the US, so I apply the following.

If I get a game on release or a game that holds its value, I do on the eshop because is cheaper for me, I get 10% on Wii U and also I don´t like to sell my games.

If I wait for a game to be cheaper, the eshop is very bad, just NBA2k13 and AC3 are just 40 now. So NFSMW, Batman AC, and others are 20-25 so it is cheaper for me to import them.

For 3DS most games I buy are nintendo games so i get them on the eshop.

Both of those games came out before New Super Mario Bros 2 in July 2012. Every Nintendo published game after NSMB2 is available digitally day 1. Make sure you guys complain about this in the Club Nintendo surveys. I tell them I avoid eShop because I prefer 3DS XL at home and 3DS when I'm out and bring up direct comparisons to Sony, Microsoft and Apple.

So no matter what - if my system is stolen, if I lose my system, if my system breaks, I get everything back on a new system within 24 hours. I find that hard to believe.

As do I, especially since we've since instances here on this forum where that didn't happen. Certainly not within 24 hours.

I prefer to have physical copies, but I don't mind buying cheap stuff from eShop. For some reason I got Game & Wario from eShop at full price, but so far that is the only one.

Digital games should be lot cheaper than physical copies, but so far they are more likely to be more expensive.

I've bought Paper Mario Sticker Star digitally, regretted it because its price bombed not too long after, otherwise it's convenient to have the game on hand.

Always since Nintendo can't supply games to stores. I can't remember the last time I managed to get a Nintendo title on launch in store.

Yes, I've gone digital since the start of the year and sold all of my games that I can get digitally on eShop. I have my own circumstances on why I went digital even though retail is just as accessible in my country. I know very well the risks of buying games on the eShop and it honestly doesn't bother me that much. Just need to be mindful of my stuff.

I do question, is the account issue really that big of an issue? Will you really be buying multiple consoles?

An instance that could be said is that if your Wii U or 3DS were to stop working or break, you're going to lose the chance to ever have those games again even if you bought them.

My launch Wii had over 100$ worth of Wiiware and VC titles and it broke beyond repair, so I lost everything. Makes me a little weary of downloading.

I did the same and regretted it because the game is horrible :/

Really the reason I'm not picking up Pikmin 3 even though I've got $40 in my eShop wallet. If I don't like it I'm fucked basically. Think I'll use it on smaller dl titles.

I got stuff on the 3DS since digital copies on a portable system make sense. I'm reluctant to get any disc games digitally on the Wii U since it's tied to the system.

I completely agree with you regarding the 3DS. I have about 40 digital games on mine. As for the Wii U, it's kinda stupid because it's always in one spot, not really portable. The only way I would buy digital Wii U games would be if they were either ONLY available in digital format, or if there was a $20+ price difference between digital and physical version of the game.

There is on the EU eshop, it's just the wrong way around :( Pikmin 3 can be bought for ÂŁ30 in physical form, but it's ÂŁ40 on eshop. Backwards.

I won't buy proper releases because of the price difference, but games that are cheap and only available on eshop, such as Attack of The Friday Monsters, Mighty Switch Force HD etc. I support and buy those.

I'm going all digital from here on out. Every game on my Wii U and 3DS XL I bought from the eShop. It's nice how some of the eShop games are $5 cheaper than the box copy (like Project X Zone).

I will continue to do this when I get the PS4 and Xbox One. I love being able to have access to any of the games I purchased at all times.

Their backwards account system is the reason I bought a wii u basic. I would never buy a digital title from Nintendo. And with the competition actually doing it properly I wouldn't miss out on any quality indie games either.

this

Unless it's eShop exclusive IE: Mighty Switch Force, etc., then yeah, I'm strictly retail

you could say I got a little carried away with the eShop on Wii U.

That's before Earthbound, Pilotwings and Star Wars Pinball.

Good Man CAPTAIN

this is how I do it no excuses but my pages are nearly full lol

i have only got Trine 2 on my WiiU from the eShop, but i have had a few of the cheap games from the eShop on my 3DS the only full game i have got was AC-NL which i got free in the promotion Nintendo offered.

as others have said one of the big issues is the games are tied to the hardware, the other issue is the price, most of the games are cheaper to buy on disc, you can save more than the 30% if you buy a few weeks after release anyway.

I don't buy digital games anyway, but if I were to, I wouldn't be willing to touch Nintendo eShop just yet.

Out of Steam, PSN and the iOS app store, I'm probably least comfortable with the eShop. I really wanted some FE:A DLC a while back, but never made the leap.

I had a big issue with tied to console games and I swear I would never buy then but then Monster Hunter/Animal Crossing came out #yolo

I only buy digital. Don't own a single Wii U disk, and the ones I did own, I sold and bought digital versions. Never had a problem at all with it.

Depends. On 3DS I go digital for games I want to have with me at all times, so MK7, AC, Pokemon. Plus the occasional eshop gem.

On Wii U I'll buy indie games because of the premium discount and probably a few regular games I know I won't sell and get cheaper on release than retail because of UK codes, like Pikmin and W101. Also Mario Kart.
Being tied to the hardware is much less an issue for Wii U, my main problem is space, since I won't spend money on a hard drive.

Only a couple indie- and VC-titles so far. Oh, and Luigi U. I usually don't replay games and don't collect so I get more of my money's worth by retail since I resell and trade in most of my games (except for Zelda).

Mario Kart 8 will most likely be my first digital over retail purchase since that one is gonna get played for a long time.

I will never buy digital content from the eShop as long as my account is tied to hardware.

I've bought VC games, but no way in hell will I tie $60 digital retail games to hardware. I'm not swayed by the convenience yet, especially since you can sell physical things and buy them used or on sale.

I bought Lego City digitally because they were having a 10% off sale. I could have still gotten it a little cheaper at retail but I also wanted to give digital a shot. It's kind of nice not having to put in the disc, but it's not really worth the added cost, especially with their faux account system. If I had to do it again I would have bought a physical copy.

I suppose I would buy more physical stuff if I were a collector or cared about having a library(or being a reseller). Digital doesn't really seem to lend too well to that sort of thing.

I'm slowly becoming more indifferent to the physical/digital thing. I love having physical carts (most of my other console libraries are physical), but ps+ and to an extent, steam, has taught me the value of good, cheap downloads.

What I really want though, is for the balance on my 3ds e-shop to be usable on my wii u eshop as well. having to load money separately onto each is just stupid, imo, and i really hope it's something they get fixed this year. I would have loved for my $30 FE-SMT promo code to be able to be split between 3ds/wiiu, as there were VC titles for both I would have purchased with it :(
