Does anyone here sleep on the floor?

I did, recently, on my friend's house. The floor was cold and hard (stone, not carpet) and his dog almost bit me, but nevertheless it was fine.
 
It's not exactly the floor, but an army sleeping cot isn't too much different. Once I got used to it, no big deal.

I do. My shitty bed was killing my back while also giving me very shitty sleep. I started by using a combo of quilts and body pillows to make a relatively uniform surface that was still soft but firm, not sinking like my bed, but eventually I just wanted it more and more firm and the pillows would shift, so I just ditched them and now have maybe 1" of cotton-batting quilting as padding over the carpet to sleep on. It is very firm and most people would probably hate it at first, but I sleep like a baby. Kinda goes with my Buddhist practice, too, I guess.

I'm thinking of getting a tatami mat and something more of a dedicated thick sleeping pad instead of a folded up quilt, but it seems strangely hard to find the latter. You can easily find 4" thick futons, but not just a nice firm mat unless you get foam or inflated, which are awful. There are cotton yoga mats, but they are kind of fluffy/loosely bound, and that would eventually shift around inside. The batting needs to be very tightly/firmly sewn in. The closest thing I have found is something like this but they have a rubber underside and are sold out everywhere as well.

Before I got into it, I researched a bit, and all I could find was this rather nice article which is getting passed around paleo circles. The theory of "resting on your bones" seemed reasonable as for why it would work, at least for someone thin like me. Granted, that person also has some batshit quackery but bad science can stumble into good science all the time.
 
I did that the 2 first nights after I moved in my new appartement before my bed was delivered. Directly on the stone floor, I didn't even have a carpet or anything. Never again.
 
Only if a bed is not available. I can't sleep on something like a couch because its far too small for me to move around on or stretch my legs. Floor works much better in situations like these.
 
I can't sleep on a hard surface like the floor, even when its carpeted.

I'm hopeless with sleeping bags too, I just can't sleep in them. I need a nice soft mattress.

I sleep on the floor also...i simply flip my doonah to floor and use my pillow...if im cold i simply flip the blanket up a little....i got into the habit when i was living in a house with drug dealers as you could hear if people were walking on the floorboards and when cops used to raid the house you could hear them coming up the steps and you didnt shit yourself as much when they come barging in with lights and cable ties

may sound pretty fucked up but i got used to it and its like having a massive king size bed
 
I slept on top of a sleeping bag for months because I was too lazy to take a bunch of stuff off of my bed. It wasn't bad, but sometimes I'd hit my head on my desk above.
 
Yep, I have a bed as well that isn't that old.

When I was young my parents never really bought me a new bed even after a few requests seeing as I was way to tall for the one they gave me. So instead of having my legs hanging off I started crashing on the floor. Mind you I have always had carpet in my room, fast forward to years later when I am on my own. I finally bought a bed and started sleeping in it for a year or two. Then one day I just went back to the floor and I have been that way ever since.

Might buy a new mattress soon and give it another shot, thinking of a temperpedic or just something nicer to see if maybe I just haven't found the right mattress yet.
 
i did for nearly six years until moving in with my girlfriend a few months ago.

i live in japan, and japanese futons (just a thin mattress you put on the floor at night and hang outside during the day) are awesome for a) your back and b) saving space in a small apartment.

i like having a bed now, for sure, but i could go back to the floor no problem.
 
I gave up my bed when a grandparent moved in during high school, and slept on the floor for two or three years. I was already doing it from time to time, though, because I'd want to stay up late and watch TV or play video games and not have to worry about waking anyone up while walking up the creaky wooden stairs.

I did this in the living room on the area rug, using a sleeping bag and/or blankets and a huge pillow.

EDIT: I found it really comfortable, to be honest.
 
I do it sometimes when my back hurts, since I'm actually way more comfortable on the floor than on a bed, no matter how high quality the mattress is.

I wouldn't sleep on the floor in my room in the basement, even if someone paid me (unless it was millions, haha). Spiders like to crawl along there sometimes, and come in with wood that's unnecessarily brought into the cold cellar next door.

Eugh.

The living room has never had much of a spider issue, thankfully
 
It took me a LONG time to stop rolling out of bed and/ or crawling onto the floor in my sleep. Spent most of my time sleeping on the floor from my late teens until my late 20's. I pretty much just gave up on getting back in the bed when I would wake up finding myself on the floor. Never really bothered me too much. As long as I had a cover and a pillow I was set. (Floor was carpet, btw). I still kick quite a bit in my sleep, but staying in the bed is not a problem for me anymore. Anyone else?
Why not just get barriers/walls for your bed (if they make such things)? Or build them.
 
I sleep where I feel like sleeping.

When you have insomnia and can't sleep in your bed, you do whatever you can to get to sleep. The floor in all sorts of areas I'll try- I'll lay down in the bathroom floor, on the couch, on the bedroom floor, on the floor just out in my apartment. Have yet to try sleeping in the kitchen though.

As long as it's comfortable, I don't see why it matters so much.

Well, at least there was one scientific article at the very end there, but it wasn't an actual study, more just observation of sleeping positions of African tribal people.

At least I learned about penis dangling:
"Tribal people do not like lying on the ground in the recovery position while wearing no clothes as the penis dangles in the dust and can get bitten by insects. When the legs are in the reverse recovery position (fig ​(fig2,2, bottom), the penis lies on the lower thigh and is protected."
 
I typically nap on the floor of my bedroom. In most cases, it's more comfortable than sleeping on the bed, but that's actually a problem because I'll sleep more deeply and thus make various body parts fall asleep from non-movement.
