Does anyone NOT play shooters.....at all?

You shouldn't be offended at all when someone says they don't play a genre you like.

And yes, I haven't played those and don't plan to.
Offended is maybe a strong word, and it's not so much people not playing a genre I like. It's more like I'd be upset to see games like that caught up in the general shooter backlash, because they're pretty fucking transcendent. It's why I asked if people even considered them shooters, because I wonder myself. And it's not even like with certain other worn-out genres where those transcendent games are few and far between these days -- they're still making games like that on a fairly regular basis (every 1-3 years or so).

Personally, I like good games. I try not to care about genres.

I can totally see that and make a distinction, but I still don't like the controls..so sorry. If I was forced to label them I would say they ARE shooters..but semantics, I don't really care.

I really don't play them anymore. The last one I truly enjoyed was Half-Life 2. After that I kind of lost interest in the genre, though Halo 3 multiplayer was something I participated in for a little while because my friends were doing it, and I enjoyed that enough.

The last shooter I played was battlefield 3. Apparently I'm one of the odd ones who actually play the single campaigns whenever I do play shooters.

I definitely play them less than I used to. PlanetSide 2 is really the only one I play regularly anymore. More into RTS and adventure these days.

That's totally fair, I understand if first person games make people nauseous of they can't get around the controls. It makes me a little sad that people are missing out on a good experience, but that's their own business, obviously.
I consider first person to be a mechanic more than a genre.
To borrow a word from the poster above, semantics, since in games mechanics tend to define genres more than anything.

A decade ago I used to play Team Fortress Classic and Day of Defeat regularly. I also played Far Cry 2 and 3 when those dropped. Maybe some shooters at friends' houses (Halo, Goldeneye, etc...). Not much else though!

Don't have a single fps. Not now not ever. But I did play uncharted. Is that tps? If so then I guess I have played shooters. As for your question on what fills the void, it's JRPGs. Lots and lots if JRPGs.

Come to think of it, the most appealing stuff to me in the genre was always stuff like Mirror's Edge and Call of Cthulhu, where shooting wasn't the focal point.

I only play shooters if they do something interesting. Like Vanquish's ARS and boosting, or BioShock's story and atmosphere and plasmids.

Its not that I dont play them...I just buy them and play them less than other types of games. I avoid fighting games like the plague tho. Just now started getting interested in RPG, JRPG again.

After finally playing some the past 2 years...they are fun. I probably will just get them on PS+ or when they are heavily discounted...except whenever I got a XBO and PS4. When that happens I might buy some at launch. Whats wild is when I had an N64...Turok was my fav game. I dont think I ever got Golden Eye.

I don't play FPS at all now, last time I did it was Time Splitters 2 I think. That's just not my thing I guess.
In fact I don't play first person anything, games with that kind of mechanic tend to appeal to me much less than others for some reason.

I own a number of Half-Life games and Team Fortress 2 (mostly through The Orange Box), but I'm not big on FPSs. I've never played a single Call of Duty, and while I have played Battlefield 1942, it was mostly for the Desert Combat mod.

What I should really say is that I'm not into multiplayer-centered games.

Wait op also asked what fills the void....as in what genres do I like and play instead of shooters? its kinda worded as saying its strange that I don't like em..anyways I play alot of character action, fighting games, rpgs(mainly jrpgs), beat em ups..I try to play lots of genres, although I need more experience with turn based strategy and simulation.

Last ones I've enjoyed were Gunvalkyrie and EDF2017. I liked them because they emphasized movement and positioning over just aiming a reticule.

Third person only...unless you're Portal or Mirrors Edge or the glory that is Metroid Prime (1,2, & 3). I used to play Halo 3 way back when I paid for Live and had my 360...but after that nope...though I was hype about the GoldenEye remake but I heard that sucked so I forgot about it...

Shooters have never been my cup of tea. Too much fumbling around with the camera and I just don't care for the shoot-everything mechanics as game progression.

I dislike shooters, the last ones I liked were James Bond ones back in the day.

I usually just play Jrpgs, VNs, rhythm games, and platformers instead.

I have played and I'm not very interested in shooter.
Also, I cannot play well because I have a slow response when I'm playing shooter

I don't like FPS games at all. I've tried them on PC, console, whatever and the point-and-shoot gameplay does nothing for me. I like third person shooters more, especially if there's more to than simply run-and-gun. R&C these days is basically a third person shooter with platforming bits and humor.

It's kind of silly to not play a genre at all, all it does is limit your game pool. I may not prefer horror games for my day to day playing but if I hear about a really good one I'll definitely play it. Same with movies, I normally wouldn't be caught dead seeing a romantic comedy, but Silver Linings Playbook was a great film and I was more than happy to see it.

I've met plenty of people who do outright refuse to play shooters, or Japanese games, or puzzle games no matter what and it's something I don't understand

I continue to buy and then not play first person shooters. It's a problem I have.

Co-op play is a different story. I'll play anything co-op.

The only shooter series I played after the the original Wolfenstein series and the first DOOM was Halo. I also bought the first Bioshock, but that was more than enough for me; the demo was amazing, the rest of the game, much less so. When DOOM II hit XBLA I played through it a couple times and loved it. But modern shooter design strays away from everything I liked in those games.

The series has evolved to include an array of gameplay mechanics that I really despise, so while I dabble I can usually only make it a few minutes into any of them. Halo 4 went there as well to its great detriment. I'm planning to pick up Destiny, but I'm actually quite nervous about it as it does some of the things I've avoided in other shooters (namely, aim down sights). So the beta will be the key there.

Very rarely. As diverse as the genre can be most of them just come down to aiming the reticule accurately which I find incredibly boring. Every once in a whole something like Portal comes along gets me interested though.

I don't play 1st person shooters. I play the occasional 3rd person cover shooter if I think the story is worth it (Gears 1, Spec Ops etc). I don't play mp. I'll also play the occasional action shooter if I think its bonkers enough (Bayo). My tastes usually run towards Japanese games so shooters don't get much of my attention.

Edit: Tell a lie, I do sometimes play Killzone 3 with Move and the big rifle attachment. Only the campaign though

I don't play FPS games at all. I dislike the perspective. I will try first person games where shooting people to kill them is not the main objective. Really looking forward to the next thief game.

But nope.

Right now I'm playing SM3DW and AC4. On deck is Zelda LBW. Next I'll play Ys. Looking forward to a bunch of indie games on ps4 until inFamous.

There are literally thousands of games to play at any given time on any given platform. I'll be fine if I don't play Titanfall, Halo, or whatever the next big shooter is.

It's kinda hard not to nowadays. It feels like most things have shooter elements by default. Or RPG elements.

I'd say generally I won't play an out and out FPS. I guess the furthest I came this year was Infinite but that was purely to see what all the fuss was about.

I think the question is too broad. I don't like games where shooting is about the only thing you do.

Metroid Prime = good
Tomb Raider reboot = bad

Really if there's too much focus on combat in general I find games very monotonous, tedious, and boring. Exceptions are rpgs.

I don't mind shooters as long as they employ some creativity, but just plain old Call of Duty or Battlefield? No thanks.

I also hardly ever do multiplayer, so there's that too.

Nah, not a big fan of the genre outside more Adventure or Puzzle based FPS like Metroid Prime or Portal. Even Bioshock Infinite, which I would probably enjoy a lot, was unplayble to me because its movement made me really sick.

The last first person shooter I can truly say I enjoyed was Doom 2. I have attempted a few over the years since then and I've never found one that compelled me to play for more than an hour. At this point I have basically given up on the genre, though I do have Deus Ex HR in my backlog and will give that the old college try too.

I am much more a shmup guy (hate that term), and i play lots of platformers, jrpgs, character action, racing games... I guess I'm pretty old school in my tastes.

Fake edit: light gun and on-rails shooters are fun though.

Not really, they all feel kinda samey to me. I've heard Bioshock and Deus Ex do some pretty cool twists on the genre, but I haven't played 'em.

Only one ever I purchased for myself was The Conduit (which was okay, but nothing special), and that was only to support the third-parties on Wii.

I do have a few shooters but I rarely play them unless I have friends over who don't play FIFA or Smash Bros. The only shooters I enjoy playing are games like Mass Effect or Fallout where shooting stuff isn't the only gameplay aspect.

I think people would rather just use their very limited time and money to play the games/watch the movies/do whatever that they are more confident they would like, rather than take a chance on something they might enjoy despite not generally being their cup of tea.

Playing a shooter with a control pad isn't a great experience compared to mouse/keyboard, I generally want to play on a couch rather than at a desk so I don't play a lot of shooters.

I am also not impressed with where the genre headed, Timesplitters2 was one of the last FPS that I actually enjoyed.

I'm also not a huge fan of playing random people over the internet, I think this genre died for me when it stopped being about playing multiplayer with people in person (Lan/ multiscreen)

It isn't a genre I HAVE to play, if there is an amazing game (ie goldeneye/ perfect dark) then I'll grab them.

The only FPS I put any time into was Battlefield 1943. Drank an 18 pack of PBR and played that game til 10am every day one summer.

I like Tomb Raider, Uncharted, and Red Dead Redemption. Other than that, I completely avoid games with guns in them. I like action, shmups (lasers, please) and misc arcade style games. Just keep those roo-ha sorts of games away from me. Unless it's Mass Effect. Mmm, space opera.

With the exception of few (Bioshock Infinite, Deus Ex: HR), I usually steer clear of FPS. Just not my fave genre and sometimes I get a headache playing them.

I recently finished the newest Deus Ex, I thought it was alright. Bioshock Infinite was fun too... but IMO nothing has come close to NOLF 1 or 2 in terms of creativity or the sheer enjoyment factor.
... so pretty much I enjoy FPS games if they offer more than the standard attack options of "shoot/frag grenade."

I don't really play them very much, no, and if I do I stay away from the MP. It's only recently I've been playing BF4 a bit because my friend got it, but even then I'm not very good just due to not really playing shooters outside of the few which has something else to it (Bioshock/Fallout/Deus Ex and so on).

Edit: On what fills the void? Pretty much every other genre honestly, RPGs being my favourite.

I haven't been able to play FPS since they added the ability to move the camera on more than one axis, so.... not in a really long time. First person games in general give me motion sickness, although I can play dungeon crawlers, which typically have a fixed perspective. I've never gotten into TPS, though I do have uncharted on my shelf waiting for me. I play RPGs, adventure games, platformers and puzzle games. I feel like there are enough games for me (though the new console launch didn't have much for me, so I'm holding off!)

I avoid them beyond humoring my friends who like to bug me to try them for the tenth time. Sorry guys the last one you showed was no fun and I hated it and this one plays exactly the same...

My iPhone's auto correct kept trying to turn "humoring" into "hump ring"... Why Apple?

There are only a select few I play. It's around maybe less than 5% of my library. Don't really like them without Wii remote or a move controller options.

I don't play single players shooters. At all. I can't imagine sitting through one of their campaigns. /shudders Bioshock was the last one I can think of in 2007.

Only MP. The game doesn't even matter all that much, I just like the competition.

Most video games are boring as shit if you're not playing against someone.
