Does anyone NOT play shooters.....at all?

I rarely play shooters. If I do, it's for their stories as online multiplayer for shooters does nothing for me. I mostly play RPGs and fighters. Mass Effect is the big exception for me, it's one of my favorite franchises. Gears 2 was also fun.

Really it's a genre I've never cared much for. If I play a FPS it has to bring something interesting to the table - Bioshock, Butcher Bay, and The Darkness are my holy trifecta of FPS. I adore Fallout 3 and New Vegas but I wouldn't classify those as FPS.

I stopped playing them with MW2. Haven't bought anything since and honestly don't miss them. The fact that I'm pretty bad at them made this decision pretty damn easy.

Quite a lot of replies in there, cheers. Nice to see I'm not alone. I'm trying to make a conscious effort now to only play games I like. Which raised the question 'am I getting what I used to from these games?'

I suppose my OP was originally targeted more at FPS than shooters, but even as others have mentioned games like Uncharted, Tomb Rader, TLoU all had 'shooting' elements in them. I don't mind if they're an addition to the gameplay, but sometimes I play these games, see the ammo and refills and just think 'get ready for a wave' and it sort of just makes me feel a bit - dunno, 'can I be bothered with this kind of thing'

I stuck LBP1 on the other day (revisited after LBPVita) and quite enjoyed it. Fifa and virtual pro has been a good outlet. I really don't mind Warframe either, just as I didn't mind Gears horde mode.

I am waiting for Diablo 3 on PS4 and love God of War types of games. I would love to start exploring JRPG (don't think I've played any) and wish their were games like Rome:Total War on consoles - any suggestions going forward?

i played the old bond games(goldeneye, TWINE, nightfire) andthe first Prime mostly. Never cared for the genre that much and modern shooters are even less appealing.

I should mention a thing that turns me off with games like CS GO is how it's often hard to find servers that don't do weird stuff I dislike, banning the awp/high player limit really fucks with the game. Dust2 is a totally different map when it's 5 v 5 compared to 12 v 12. Really that's sorta why I dislike pc gaming in general, people often don't just play the game, they have to add something to make it a bit more accessible but it can often detract from the actual experience.

Edit-I'm not saying we can't have community servers but I wish they'd be encouraged to host servers that are more like 7 v 7 rather than 12 v 12, keep the same competitive ruleset but allow people to drop out/come in when they want.

I can't play or watch people play fps because I get motion sickness :(

I can't recall ever having tried a third person shooter, none of them seem super appealing, but I'd probably give one a shot if it had a good enough story.

I like seeing my character on the screen. I feel claustrophobic with an FPS HUD. I feel trapped inside my character in an FPS. Every FPS has garbage hit detection and and poor platforming/tactile connections with the environment compared to third-person games. At least, to me.

me, it i feel light headed after 15minutes of play.

i wish, i can play FPS for extended time but I just cant.

And I always end up buying shit like BF4, Killzone, COD eventhough i know i don't like playing them.

I don't really play FPS shooter. Maybe something like 1 per gen? And really, it fills all my need for those type of games. Last gen I played Resistance on PS3. I had no desire to play anything else of that genre. PS2 days I played Black. That's about it.

I don't even need to "compensate" 'cause I don't even have enough time to play everything else I wanna play. I love platformers, racing, strategy games, western rpgs, action or third person shooters and artistic/niche games.

I play quite a few of them but I'm going to slow down a lot going forward. I much prefer RPGs but I rarely pick them up because of the price. I realize now if I stop impulse buying $10-$20 games constantly then I would be able to afford them.

I was spoiled uring high school bc my little brother bought all the major fps and I could borrow em at will. Since leaving I've only really played some tf2. I bought red steel 2 for that sweet wiimote action but haven't played it yet. Will probly buy some o the scant few fps on wiiu too. Cod for the wiimote and deus ex bc its my most convenient play option with my terrible pc.

I don't play shooters. I used to play ET and some CoD2 multiplayer, but after those, meh. All modern FPS games are the same (thanks Quake): jump around like headless chicken, zerg the objectives, it doesn't matter if you die, just spawn and then most importantly; troll the other players.

Now get me a tactical shooter and I might try it. America's Army is not the answer, I hate that bullshit propaganda that game is full of. The Division might be nice, but if I hate FPS games on PC I totally loathe them with a pad, I just can't shoot straight.

Yes, I'm bad in FPS games. I like my turn based RPGs. I might be too old for this shit. =)

It seems like a lot of people here only play certain kinds or brands of shooters rather than all of it. I think that proves just how diverse the genre can be even if it can be boiled down to point and click.

Myself, I mostly play CS:GO and arena-type shooters like Serious Sam.

I have played a grand total of 5 minutes of multiplayer shooters in my life, but I have beaten the campaigns of a bunch of games this generation. I also enjoy the more story focused shooters like Bioshock.

EDIT: I lied. I used to play Battlefield 1942. Make that 5 minutes of console multiplayer.

My guilty pleasure is that I really like Call of Duty still, it's just fun and you know you're going to get the same experience every time even if it's a different flavor. I haven't really been able to shake off the first time I played through the first Modern Warfare and sat down to beat the whole campaign in one sitting. It's just mindless explosive fun, kinda like a Michael Bay movie and I still enjoy it. I'm not really competitive though.

BF3 was one game I played and still play, I really enjoyed Far Cry 2 and 3 on the PC. There's a lot. The Mods for Crysis are fantastic.

Very rarely and with exceptions. I liked borderlands 2 and the Bioshock games. Mass effect series as well of you want to count that.

Looking forward to Destiny as well.

Nope...or atlease not after 007 64 and perfect dark. Current shooters aren't bad ofcourse, they simply don't interest me.

I don't play shooters. I used to play ET and some CoD2 multiplayer, but after those, meh.

I know two PC (1 also xbox 360) shooters coming out similar to those games...

Extraction is similar to ET (same devs). And rekoil is similar to COD2 (also 360 version) - sometime janruary. Extraction (being called XT) doesn't have a release date but is currently in closed beta.

The only MP shooter I like is Halo, but I don't mind the occasional run through of CoD campaign or something. All the MP twitch shooters with ADS are boring. It's a bit ironic that the creators of Halo are making more of the same mainstream stuff I've avoided. Oh well.

Co-op Action Adventure games are more up my alley.

Never got into the whole multiplayer shooter thing, I find it quite boring. I REALLY enjoy FPSs in the form of Fallout and Bishock though, but I think it's more about the combination of the story/gameplay, as opposed to something like COD where the majority of the players on there are there for the multiplayer gameplay aspect of the game.

The only FPS I've played this year is Bioshock Infinite. I do generally enjoy them, but I tire of them quickly if played consecutively, so I only play like one or two FPS's a year. I also find most modern military shooters overplayed and horribly dull, so the game needs to be something a bit different to capture my attention.

FPS on PC is one of my favorite genres. I don't see myself getting bored of the genre anytime soon.

Dual stick console FPS I can't stand. Surprisingly though I found myself quite enjoying Halo 4 campaign, which is not something I can say of any other FPS I've played with a controller.

The only traditional "point crosshair and kill a guy" shooter I play is CSGO, Quake 3 Arena, and Unreal Tournament '99. Otherwise I don't touch them.

I do play a lot of FPS games though (Portal series, L4D series, etc).

Very rarely, and almost never online. The only time I pick up a FPS is for lack of better options (for example, I picked up Killzone with my PS4 to have something that flexed next-gen muscles) or the occasional Halo.

I used to play them all a lot more, but I'm pretty much over the genre. Titanfall looks fun though.

I don't. Nothing against the genre, though. Circumstances mostly. If my health was better and I had good internet I'd like to play something competitive.

I played CS 1.5 a ton back in college on the LAN. Great times. I've been stuck with slow ping internet ever since leaving, though. No cable or DSL 'round here. That kind of killed any desire to get a gaming ring.

Then in '08 I had an injury that's made it pretty uncomfy to sit up at a desk for long so desktop gaming is kind of out.

The last FPS I played was Halo back in '05, on Xbox. After forcing myself to finish the second half of that game I was like, I'm good (with this series). No desire to play the sequel.

I'm primarily a console/handheld guy anyway all other stuff aside. Don't find playing FPS with a pad too appealing.

I don't play any contemporary shooters, I can't stand them to be honest-- way too much focus on Hollywood theatrics and dialogue; I do still play Wolf3d and Doom all the time. I also visit a lot of older first-person shooters that I'd missed first time around, like Blood (PC), Escape from Monster Manor (3DO), etc.

Last one I played a lot and liked was Timesplitters 2 on NGC. I try them and play sometimes for a while, but they are really not my thing.

One of the big reasons is that I don't like online multiplayer. I like playing with friends in the room and enjoyed Quake and DN3D in lans way back when.

I am pretty much burnt out on fps. I think this generation will finally be the decline of the fps era. Hoping for fighters or something new.

Thanks! Extraction looks nice, I might try that one.

Used to play a ton of shooters before and during college. After the disappointment of Halo 4 though (and shooter fatigue probably), I just stopped buying shooters completely. Now I fill the time with MMOs or RPGs.

Very rarely. Needs to be something special.

They were great when studios were pushing the genre forward with each new release. Now the genre's in a dull holding pattern that it's been stuck in for the past five years or more.

I'll play RPG hybrids like Alpha Protocol and Deus Ex (I almost always try to do a stealth/ghost run in those games) but generally speaking I don't play shooters.
