When you think using any word in anger, including that word, justifies hospitalizing a 70 year old, you have lost the plot.

That sort of thinking might lay behind a more common line of thinking these days on the left; It's the idea that words are violence.

If words are violence then physically retaliating is then acceptable or a form of self defense.



I think that sort of interpretation is extreme and lacks nuance. Words can never justify physical assault- No matter how bad the words being said are.

Words are cheap, almost free, so a measure of a person is more than just what they say.

I've never in racial terms to call someone something racist, but if it was my intention to piss them off or hurt them as badly as I could with words, then race is probably the quickest way there. White people can't use it because context is important and a white person saying it to a black person is NEVER the same thing as a black person saying it to another black person.
