Does Final Fantasy have the most negative fanbase out there?

Every franchise has a negative crowd to it. The fact each mainline ff is standalone means it's easier to choose a side and go against other releases. Souls community can be pretty bad at times.

I'm actually amazed at how FFXV is well received by most people. But it sounds obvious that the most people like FFXV, the most they actually hate what FF ever was..

I mean you got people telling you a crappy pop remix is the best song ever for a ff.. When the simple idea of having a pop song in a ff shits on everything ff ever was musically wise.

You got thread about a platforming dungeon without fighting being the best dungeon in ff history..

Basically, the more FFXV goes away from what was FF, the more people like it. Like when they say "of course it's great it's an action game, who likes boring turn battle"

FFXV could be subtitled "fuck you final fantasy and jrpg fans, move on!"

seems to be a lot of big japanese titles have shitty fanbases like this. Mostly those franchises that do different things game to game.

Fire Emblem came to mind. lots of people being real pieces of shit to anyone who likes the new ones with lots of awfulness

Because FF used to be God tier in quality and fans can't accept in the last Decade the games are mediocre. If Square Enix do a FF game with high quality again then it will be applauded.

FFXIII and FFXV are not no where near the FF quality fans expect... both are bad FFs... it is even a surprise how some fans accepted FFXV being launched in that shame state.

FFXVI needs to see what FFXIII and FFXV did wrong and what the previous titles did right.

Hmmm, Fallout? Or at least, they're the franchise where a noisy chunk of the fanbase seem to hate the people currently in charge of it.

Salvaging a mess of a 10 year old project and releasing it in a blatantly unfinished state, turning a shit MMO into a good one and releasing a good spinoff that doesn't have that broad of an appeal isn't all that impressive, you know. Sure it's arguably better than their performance last gen, but acting like this is enough for displeased fans to applaud them is weird.

I mean, even if you just mean negative as pessimistic and not "bad", I still don't know if I'll agree. At least in GAF every FF-related thread was filled with people going crazy hyped over XV and the people being skeptical were very few in comparison. I see far more praise for the game than criticism as well despite its shortcomings, so yeah.

And SE gets far more shit for announcing long-requested games before they even enter actual production because they do it all the time and it always brings trouble to their projects. The truth is that opinions and tastes in FF aside, the fact that SE has mismanaged the series for a while now is clear and seeing a few signs that they might be getting a bit better won't be enough to please everyone. They're only doing the bare minimum a competent company is expected to so far, and they used to be far greater than that.

Oh yeah this. There are a million three hour YouTube videos that tell you why Fallout 3 or 4 suck. That's passionate hate.

What annoys me the most the last few years is the communication about their games. They're setting wrong expectations again and again. With Final Fantasy XV we didn't get so much that was promised and shown and now with FF7R they first said it would be released sooner than we would think, but judging by the latest comments it seems development is not so for along as we might have thought.

Yeah, I think XV is like a Final Fantasy for people who don't really like JRPGs that much, in the sense it kind of went more towards western rpg philosophies.

Not that I'm saying that trying new things is necessarily bad for Final Fantasy, I'm more saying this because I can totally see why some people may be a little disappointed in the direction it took. Nevermind the fact it ended up kind of half baked due to development problems.

Final Fantasy has been using pop songs with every game since VIII with Eyes On Me?

Because every single FF fan "knows" what ff "should be" but they don't realize that ff is always different from each iteration.

You just think it should be like the first FF game you played and then place a bias onto that.

Yeah but only once you'd already blown your load post-credits or to accompany arguably one of the most iconic/emotional scene in gaming history (FFX underwater date scene)

Never in the trailer/opening credits

That should have been a massive warning flag haha

That last part isn't true. Every FF from X or before is brilliant imo. XII was ok but the rest after (not including MMO) are crap.

Meh. At least Stand By Me fits the narrative of the game (and is actually a good song). There were tons of commercials with My Hands playing along with XIII. The Japanese commercials for XIII also had Kimi Ga Iru Kara blasting everywhere left and right.

They are a vocal minority.
I understand their frustration because they still have vivid in their minds the era when Squaresoft was able to release three masterpieces like FF7,8,9 within three years.
The comparison with that period is embarrassing and depressing, hence the constant bitching from these people. But it's an overreaction, they just need to accept what SE can do with the series right now or move on.

Oh, wook at the wittle Dark Knight, how scary! Yes you are! Yes you are! Grrrrrrrrrr!

HOW THE DAMN HELL DID YOU KNOW??

It's still better than leona lewis' "my hands" playing on the ending scene...at least stand by me has some(vague) connection to the story of the game

Edit: beaten, haha

Those of are some pretty big generalizations.

Square hasn't given FF fans a lot to be excited for over the years. The tsunami of nostalgia products show a clear division between now and the golden age. Theatrhythm, Dissidia, Record Keeper, World of FF, etc. solely ride on the concept of, "Remember FINAL FANTASY?" But to be honest I don't mind that since I haven't enjoyed a mainline FF game since FFX. I haven't played FFXV admittedly, but to me, everything I've seen from it makes me think I wouldn't enjoy it. I played FFIX for the first time this year and really enjoyed it, so it's not like I've completely lost interest in the series.

For over a decade, all their mainline FF entires have been gigantic clusterfucks. Prior to FF 12, S-E was able to put out a mainline game every 1-2 years, with a few other great games in-between.

XII: delayed several years, changed directors midway through
XIII: spent what, 8 years in development? And no towns because HD towns are tough (as are moms)
XIV: so terrible, they had to take it offline and basically remake it from scratch
XV: 10 years of development hell, and the final product obviously had tons of content stripped out

Not hard to see why long-time FF fans are jaded as fuck. The stakes are much higher when the wait is this long.

FF does not have the most negative fanbase. it does however seem very divided.

VIII i've seen split opinions on.
And when it comes to X and XII it's like you love one and hate the other.

Keep in mind it's mainly civil disagreement compared to the No Man's Sky reddit at it's peak.

It's not unique to FF, I'd personally rather not hear any recognisable pop voices spring up in any rpg. Not exactly a major complaint of mine though

Hard to be positive when they dump trash like XIII, its sequels and XV onto their fans. Just give me remasters and ports at this point.

Yes.

Final Fantasy haters literally enjoy the franchise more than Final Fantasy fans. The only fanbase more masochistic is American Horror Story fans.

Yes, Final Fantasy followed by Resident Evil.

The thing with FF is that the games are too much different from each other, that's why there's so much disagreement with FF fanbase.

I do think the fandom exaggeration goes too far OP, so i half agree with you. On the other hand, SE does make mistakes people can focus on. FF15 had loads of problems and an obvious development cycle from hell a lot of people latched onto.

FF7R was announced a while ago and people are getting antsy for new information and trailers, it makes sense for people to get ornery.

There is an element of entitlement and misplaced nostalgia about certain things no doubt, but its not as if i don't understand people going a bit stir crazy

The way I see it, the problem is the fact that this series has been around for so long (30 years now) and means so much to many different people. Everyone has their own opinion as to what a final fantasy game should be, but each title seems to be becoming more different from what came before.

Nevertheless, Final Fantasy is still my favorite video game series. And I am with you op, the fanbase is my least favorite aspect about the franchise.

SE has definitely dropped the ball a lot the last few years, but right now the series is thriving and I couldn't be happier.

If Final Fantasy has a diverse fanbase it's because the games themselves have catered to different audiences over the years, some prefer the old school ones, some the new, some only random games of the new and so forth. There isn't a real "unity" of the fanbase as such since each one prefers something different or wants it to go in a certain way.

As long as their fans keep consuming cobbled together, Frankenstein trash like FFXV, then fans have every right to be negative.

Calling X trash or a mess is ridiculous, it's as bad as people on Zelda threads trying to make out Twilight Princess was some kind of abomination

You probably like FF8 too don't you.

:P

I think X is absolutely godawful ever since it released. Stupid characters that sound stupid dressed like stupid dolls in a stupid walk forward/sideways simulator.

Opinions are like onions we're all smelly. Or maybe I just smell?

It's a thirty year old franchise where everyone has their favorites. It's incredibly easy for fans of such a long running franchise to be emotional both positively and negatively. Hyperbolic comments get a rise out of people on the Internet. My ultimate point is that FFIX is dreadfully mediocre.

hehehe...

I don't know. Looking at GAF alone, I have found the people in the Brave Exvius, Morbius Final Fantasy, and Final Fantasy XIV - heck even the Final Fantasy XV OT to be very helpful people. Unfortunately, a bunch of people in the recent 30th anniversary event thread were salty as fuck.

I think Dark Souls fans can be extremely negative about DS2. Some of the criticism is way overblown.

But yeah, Star Wars definitely tops FF in this regard, as someone mentioned elsewhere in the thread.
