Does LittleBigPlanet have a viable future?

Yes, this series that, for the most part, is critically acclaimed and made a whole lot of money was doomed from the start. Good grief, the hyperbole.
It was built on a flawed core, in this case the physics and platforming. The sequels were hamstrung by the poor platforming design in the original. If it played as tightly as classic Mario, Sonic, Megaman, etc, LBP would still be a relevant franchise.

I'd say no. They made too many games too fast and ultimately it just diluted it extremely fast.

Ultimately, the series just wasn't a fun game to play. Neat idea, but it was ultimately too hard to make levels and its' already been usurped.

I love LBP but the low framerate kills this game. It needs to run at 60, being a platformer. 60 locked with no substitues. I hope that LBP3 gets a Neo upgrade mode so that it runs better, it would get me back into the game.

LBP Vita was amazing and then LBP3 really hurt.

I would rather play and create with friends in LittleBigPlanet than Dreams, in all honesty... so I hope some kind of future can be wrenched out of it, some way.

No. Momentum is gone, its more an expansion than a new game. Will never buy a LPB cause its just so boring

The series has taken a knock because the third installment was blatantly rushed to get it out during the holiday, as evidenced by the plague of bugs it had at launch and the puny size of the single player campaign, and not because of the game's physics. The physics were supposedly improved in the third game, but a fat load of good that did. Citing Sonic and Megaman as examples proves contrary to what you're saying because they're hardly relevant in today's market.

I started with LBP3 and thought it was good enough. The online map sharing alone makes it a good purchase since it's usually found really cheap.

Had a great time with this series, and I still recommend these if you have a PS3/4/Vita. Great sense of humor and fun campaigns. Probably a little too difficult to create levels unless you are a very dedicated and patient person.

I don't think we really need an LBP4, but I would be interested to hear opinions from actual LBP level creators. Are they wanting another one?

LBP3 was a total embarrassment. Even now the game performs awfully online. Multiplayer gameplay lags greatly and boots everyone after each level played. I don't want to see this franchise die and hope that whoever develops the next title, if there is one, knows how to code a better online system. LBP 1 and 2 actually worked, so I don't see that as a difficult task.

I booted up LBP3 the other day and it said that my save data (I'm assuming after all their fucking patches) was now corrupt and had to be deleted.

Fuck. That. What an embarrassment.

Yeah, Sony basically sacrificed LBP3, the franchise and the community in order to be drought and holiday filler. Casualty of the X1/PS4 launch race where nobody can be second, but nobody is actually ready, even after the longest generation ever.

Now that I'm remembering all that, it's pretty shitty.

I'm sad because LBP is actually a phenomenal educational tool. It got me to pursue engineering and is probably the best virtual space to learn about programming logic and signals.

LittleBigPlanet 3 got off to a seriously shaky start.

Dreams looks to be the successor to LittleBigPlanet in terms of ambition and concept, but I still believe there is a space for LittleBigPlanet 4 to exist

I'm not really sure about the state of the LBP3 as I don't have much time to play it until summer arrives, but from what I've heard and seen of the game is that the community doesn't appear to be as strong as it was in LBP1 and LBP2, it's a real shame.

LittleBigPlanet is my second favorite game of all time, next to Final Fantasy VII.
I've played 1, 2 and 3 but I wasn't very fond of Karting.

They offered the most unforgettable gaming experiences I've ever had and they will forever be in my heart. I strongly believe a successor to LittleBIgPlanet, like LBP4 and even Dreams will do the same too.

It's really unfortunate that 3 was rushed to get it out for the holidays. LBP is one of my favorite exclusive games on any PlayStation console and I would love to see them continue making them.

I am very interested in seeing how Dreams turns out as it looks like a re-imagining of what LBP was trying to become.

I really love the series. Sadly, 3 seemed to be a mess (haven't booted it up in a long time) which is so disappointing. I was super excited at the E3 trailer and then was letdown with the performance issues (hey bring all the stuff you have and unlocked in old games forward! wait don't do that or performance goes to shit). Save size also upsets me.

That being said, its weird that the folks who did LBP Vita pulled this off. I wouldn't mind giving them another try but with the title fully built for PS4. I think it's a franchise that has its place (look at Mario Maker and its success) so hopefully Sony don't kill it off, rather they put effort into a new LBP game.

For real, Sony really mishandled LBP3. LBP3 should of never been a cross gen title at all, becoming purely a focused PS4 title only, and it should of never been rushed just to be out before the holidays. Felt like it could of done way better if it was released as a spring/summer title.

Still, Sackboy is a pretty good Playstation mascot. So I imgine Sony not entirely done with the ip quite yet. If only they could get a studio or Media Molecule to deliever a complete overhaul with fresh new ideas, physics, and graphics but with the spirit and user creation still intact, it could return to form, matching the hype and reception the first LBP got, but chances are, thats pretty slim.

The handling of 3 and the upcoming Dreams probably means that no, it doesn't. Real shame though, I love the series. 4 would have to be something amazing to revive common interest though, and I just don't know what it could do.

No kidding. LittleBigPlanet pretty much singlehandedly got me interested in pursuing programming.

The only truly good game in the series wasn't even made by Media Molecule though. LBP Vita.

I'd be really happy if Tarsier Studios / Double Eleven carried on the franchise, they did great work with the Vita game. Both are pretty busy now, but I'd be interested if they were involved in a new LBP.

That said, LBP3 gets a bad rep because of its technical problems and because it was not made by the A-team, but it had some additions in the new characters that were really important to LBP and I wish Sony could have given Sumo Digital the time to get that game right.

LBP Hub would have been (and would still be) a nice way to give this brand back to the fanbase if Sony doesn't have plans for a fourth game, but something happened to that project.
