Does 'Nintendomination' feel surreal to anyone else?

The most ridiculous thing is how much the internet has been shitted up by Wii fans chanting 'it prints money' at every opportunity.

That Soul Calibur 4 thread. Not just 1, but a multitude of crazy wii nerds suggesting their waggle stick was good enough for use in a solid fighting game.

Well shit. A sixaxis has a motion sensor; guess we can port Wii Sports over to it and get it working as well!

Wiifans would be demanding Starcraft 2 on the Wii if they even thought they could have an inkling of a chance of suggesting it without been catapulted into the sun.

It's surreal to see Wii fans linking the PS2 with the Wii. Constantly!

Apart from market support at this point in their lifetimes, the two are NOTHING like each other. One is a very traditional console that is on par performance wise as its competitors, and also costs the same as its competitors.

The other has the wonderful casual hooking waggle mechanism, along with last gen hardware performance and a substantially lower price point then the other two. The sense of entitlement... for games that simply don't suit its hook, or are awkward/incompatible with its control scheme, is what's mind boggling.

...Wait, are you for console FPS games or against? Because clearly you should also be resenting all console FPSs, with their inferior control mechanism and all.

Judging by your post history though, you do play some! Care to explain your reasoning behind that?

Game genres have dissapeared before and will dissapear again. i love text adventure back in the old times. I also love Shoot em ups and beat em ups. What makes you think that games like MGS wont become boring to new generations? I see a trend where short games played in short burst are becoming more sales prominent. Games like MGS may become too boring with their long FMV
Like Pureauthor said, these games currently being played and loved by the hardcore may fall from prominence, but I doubt they'll disappear.

Things will change with their business model to make them as profitable as possible, for example adding episodic, online, delivery of content, and they likely won't be given the free reign of resources they have at the moment, but they'll still be made.

When was the last text adventure comercially launched????

Phoenix Wright is a Visual Novel, which is basically the Japanese Equivalent to said genre.

It is thriving in Japan with series like Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien, Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni, Air, Fate/Stay Night, Shingetsutan Tsukihime, and much much more.

Surreal? Hell no. I grew up with Nintendo and R.O.B. It's not new to me and I stuck with them even through the N64 and GC days. It's good to see them back. :)

I am neutral to console FPS; it has some pros over PC that are often undermentioned; particularly the ability to control speed and direction of movement freely and easily, and the lack of having to pick up a mouse and recenter it. (Though to be fair, I've played FPS for so long that, that sort of thing is transperant to me).

That said, I've got Red Steel and Call of Duty 3 for the Wii... and neither implementation has impressed me at all. I'm willing to give at least MP3 a try before calling it quits on Wii FPS though.

To everyone that took my post seriously:

Joke Post. Thing is, the very idea that you took it seriously speaks volumes about the views of some of the posters here.

Oh, and to the person that claimed I've never used a Wiimote in my life: I do indeed own a Wii. In fact, I think it's awesome that games like Trauma Center are possible on the Wii.

Fair enough.
Although I would assume that the PC heavily outdoes any potential of a console FPS due to being extremely customizable for most of them. (with options such as standard text and/or voice chat, game pad support, shortcuts, macros, free user content, different graphic levels for different PCs, etc.)

I see your point, and think certain games are more suited to traditional controllers, but you have to understand, we, on this board, don't get to decide what happens. The mass market does.

There are a lot of people saying, 'once the mainstream realises waggle is a gimmick, they'll get bored of Wii', this isn't going to happen. Simple, and relatively effective, always wins out over complicated in the mainstream. Back in the 80s, on computers, games used keys for controls, and were always better than joysticks. They were more accurate and more refined, for the hardcore, but they were complicated for most people and lost to the simplistic joystick.

Because the hardcore deems a certain control method essential for a particular game, since it makes it better to play, doesn't mean shit when it comes to mass market tastes. These consumers are preferring the motion controls of Wii to traditional joypads, because they're simpler, like DS's touch screen. It doesn't even matter if they're worse at some games than joypads, the mass market doesn't care, because as long as its good enough, they're happy. Gaming just isn't important enough for them.

Even though Wii CoD3 and Marvel UA have worse controls, according to some hardcore gamers, it hasn't stopped them outselling the PS3 versions. Just because Red Steel is regarded as crap to control, hasn't stopped it being a huge seller.

The hardcore needs to start looking at what's actually happening and realise their own preferences aren't good indictators of mass market tastes, if they want to predict future sales, because so far, their record isn't very impressive.

I had an inkling it was incongruous to the posts I've seen of yours, but I wasn't sure. I think you really need a tag, or to have been here a good while, before 'joke posts' are effective.

Dont forget H-games and Dating sims. Text based gaming is really huge in Japan.
