Does playing handheld consoles put you to sleep?

I have a lot of trouble with WANTING to go to sleep and games like GoW:COO never made me change my mind about sleeping. But the first Professor Layton, New Super Mario Bros. and GTPSP are my best choices when I want to set sail to dreamland in less than 20 minutes. I think it depends of the game.

All the time. Funny that happens also with fast paced games like space invaders on DS (last three nights).

Though it must be the bed's fault, not the console's :D

Unless you are traveling, I just don't see the point of handheld games. Why not enjoy that HDTV and the massive processing power of a console?

Because I can't take a shit while playing Uncharted 2.

Yes, very very often.

Though in fairness, I play a lot of slow-paced dialog-heavy games on the DS. I think it has something to do with the (usually) quiet sound coming from tiny speakers also.

Nah. In fact, it's my preferred way to play games these days.
Of course, I DO spend a grand total of 4-5 hours commuting to/from each day.
So for me, books + iPod and/or handhelds + iPod are the only things that keep me sane.

I use whatever machine I have to in order to play the games I'm interested in. Having any sort of bias toward/against handhelds or consoles just means you're missing out on great games.

Not to mention, more often than not these days, handheld gaming fits my lifestyle alot easier.

Actually just getting back into my DS as of late (starting with Spirit tracks) after being enslaved by my PSPGO and Monster Hunter.
Feels nice and who knows, maybe I'll get around to that Chrono Trigger DS playthrough.

Still hate the DSi's clicky Dpad/Buttons though =(

If anything playing consoles puts me to sleep as much as handheld consoles. I knocked out playing Uncharted 2 the other night.

Not so much with handhelds, but I have found myself falling asleep quite regularly when exploring in a couple recent rpgs. Namely, Fallout 3 and Dragon Age. Though I'm quite sure this is due to exhaustion and lack of sleep. Kinda funny to wake up having your character walking in circles in the same spot where you fell asleep. :lol

playing em in the car makes me sick....but not on the bus...figure that out

Same here. Books or games, I can't do 'em in a car. Train or bus, however, and I'm fine. Pretty strange. But then again, I always get motion sick when in a car for extended periods of time (especially if I'm in the back seat), but I never have that issue in trains or buses. Thankfully.

Like a freakin' baby. I'll lie down and say to myself "OK, let's make some progress here. Oh hey, I remember what's going oZZZZZZZZZZ"

Wake up to see my DS or PSP on its battery's dying breath.

No touch screen. And I find it a bit weird that someone would "enjoy massive processing power."

Yes, actually. I don't know why. I play them and I can't keep my eyes open. It has nothing to do with boredom or anything...I have trouble staying awake.

Yes but it only seems to be certain games that do it, I think it's the low frame rate 3D graphics that are the problem. 2D games don't seem to be an issue.

I don't think I've ever fallen asleep in the middle of a game - handheld or console.

If I feel like I'm dozing off, I'll turn it off.

Yep, my wife and I both play our DS in bed nearly every night before we go to sleep. Though I do limit my handheld gaming to fairly non-actiony games (RPGs, SRPGs, etc.)

As far as falling asleep while gaming, one night I was playing Chrono Cross and then... I woke up in bed. I had no recollection of going to bed.

When I loaded up the game I was in the dream world and didn't remember about the last hour I played.

I have also fallen asleep playing Disgaea about 20x.

Not every single time, but yeah, playing a handheld can definitely have that effect on me. It doesn't help that I often my DS laying in bed with a pillow behind my head -- often with the light off. :lol

I Peggle DS myself to sleep at night. Also, if I play RPGs in the bathtub, I fall asleep. Otherwise, I'm a-okay. Books are far more deadly.

How have you not been electrocuted yet?

Also to answer the question, no, of course not. Why would they?

I've never dropped the thing in the tub. I've been playing games in the bath pretty much since Game Boy rolled around.

Realistically, if you dropped something like a Game Boy or iPod into the bath, you wouldn't be electrocuted. The batteries don't have enough power. However, the device itself would probably be finished. It's things plugged into a wall socket that you need to be careful with.

To me it all comes down to the games, if I want to play Crush on my 360 or PS3 I'm shit out luck.Granted I could see your point being valid back during the Gamegear or Gameboy era those games pretty much were weak imitators of their big brothers, but today it's a whole different ballgame.

Yep, but only if i play them for more then a hour. Which is fine enough by me, considering when i play a hand held game. I usually play them in quick 30-1 hour sessions throughout the day.
