Domino promo shot (Deadpool 2)

People wishing she didn't have that afro, do better :P

God that episode had me dying

Not big on the fro, but I don't really care that much. She looks pretty great in general. Really looking forward to Deadpool 2. It'll feel so right to have Domino, Deadpool, and Cable together.

I didn't even hear that they switched races for a character. Where was the controversy that always happens?

Love the look here. A lot of the Deadpool characters have an old school comic book feel to them, in a good way. I think this one carries that feeling extremely well. It's not in awkward territory, and it keeps the feeling alive.

They did not switch races for the character. If I'm wrong about this I'm sure comics GAF will correct me, but I never read a comic that said otherwise.

To the best of my knowledge, Domino is not canonically Caucasian. She was literally white as part of her mutation.

Ehh they could convince me in the movie but looking at the picture im not really big on it.

Personally the afro just doesnt work for Domino.

Her features always looked distinctly Caucasian though at least when i was reading. Regardless, it was a more striking visual than this cheap-looking incarnation.

Guarantee: 95% of the people who will create a controversy over the race change will have never heard of this character before today.

Hmmm nahh.
Latino maybe....heck theres some books where she looks of asian decent....but ive never thought of her as fully white.

Arent a bunch of her code names latino.

The insistence that new portrayals of characters by real life people have unimportant features shared with a version of the character from comics is always strange to me. I remember it from Constantine. People were so mad but the idea of them giving Keanu blond hair is insane because he'd look ridiculous.

What a boring costume. I expected better after the awesome costume work in DP1.

That's my feelings. Deadpool is a series I wanna see get as comic book feeling as possible. Even her eye patch could be bigger. The whole thing feels so blah. After the likes of deadpool and colossus in the first one I was hoping for better.

She could easily have any number of ethnic backgrounds. Canonically she was the product of a genetic weapon project and has no specific father, only a mother, who herself has pale skin but could easily be any number of non "white" ethnicities.

In the comics, Dom has canonically passed as Asian and Hispanic and Eastern European.

I think that different artists have drawn her pretty differently. She has been drawn with thin lips and a narrow nose, as well as with more volume through her face.

It's hard to say that she really is any particular race. Though, as a teen she was albino white with black hair, and without the spot.

I think she is genetically engineered so may not have a "race" as we typically think of it.

A beautiful woman with awesome hair who looks just like a real-life version of Domino.

"I don't like it."

I really don't know what some people expect. She looks incredible.

Wow she looks great! It pays off to not read comics because I can just love good stuff even if they deviate from the source material ^_^

I want to say that some concept pics came out first, which gave people time to brace themselves and whine. Plus, when you get down to it this will be the definitive Domino for 99% of the people that see the movie. It's not like Superman or Batman where there is a ubiquitous image of the character for non-comic readers.

Personally I don't gripe that much when it comes to costumes. What upsets me is when the movie does not respect the source material(almost all x-men movies except first class and deadpool).

I'm confused... what exactly do people not like about this?

Source material? Outfit looks very typical sexy mercenary kinda thing that you see on domino.

Skin tone? I mean... the source is basically a dalmatian. Paper white with charcoal black blotch... Is that what people wanted? This has to be the best way to pull of the look without being absurd. Is the real problem with skin tone the painfully obvious one?

Hair.... really? A guess people want the "signature" short straight? She's had pixie before... The actual point of her hair is to convey an "I don't give a shit what you think" attitude. She's strong and reckless. Zazie Beetz with straight hair would convey a feeling of someone who cares much more about conforming to some arbitrary standard. Her hair is perfect for the personality of the character.

I guess I'm pumped because I like domino to begin with. I love her powers, the realm of marvel she works in, and her personality. After watching Zazie in Atlanta I was soooo happy when I heard she was chosen for the character. In my mind she is perfect. I think a lot of people are going to be pleasantly surprised.

She looks like a woman in a leather outfit.

If you were to take out Deadpool and just show me a pic of her. Domino would not be what springs to my mind. She looks nothing like her.

Beautiful or not. She doesn't look like a real life Domino.

I'm with you on this. I read the same comics everyone else has over the past 30 years and I'm ok with this. If anything it should be as I said above. Of course we won't know anything until we see the movie.

She looks nothing like a real-life version of Domino, though.

Technically you're right. No one does though.... No one looks like a human domino. If we're talking about body shape... I mean... comic characters change body shape constantly depending on the artist.

It should be about personality. I mean did Ryan Reynolds look like a real life Deadpool?

Looks fantastic.

I mean there's a reason...

Yes. Ryan Reynolds looked almost exactly like a real life Deadpool.

That is a weird point to make.

Yes? Mostly.

As for "no one looks like a human Domino" - eh, you only have to google 'Domino cosplay' to prove that to be untrue.

I like the movie design, but it's not like the comic book design was unachievable. And people can think "that doesn't look like Domino", because it doesn't really.

And of course personality matters, but it's hard to gauge that from a still image, unlike character design.
