Domino promo shot (Deadpool 2)

Last I checked..her true color was chalk white..

I think there are people only looking at the actress and only some looking at the character.

And some people are not considering how this looks in practice rather than in theory. If you take a black actor and paint her white it's going to cause a shitstorm, doesn't matter if it's actually bleached white color it's still going to be fucked up.

Just not huge on the outfit. I know she would wear all black in some comic runs, but a tad of purple wouldn't hurt. The hair though......it just works.

Are you looking at the character though? Or just her skin? What does her not having chalk white skin have to do with the character's personality or other traits?

Oh come on. Dominos chalk white skin is one of her visual trademarks.

Many people would flip their shit if Joker and Harley wouldnt be chalk white.

Ill be honest

If you expect a 1:1 translation from the source material to the adaptation, you will always end up disappointing. And passing off judgement based off a loom is well, short sighted.

Yeah she isnt white skinned. So what? Painting her white, even if its true for the source, isnt really needed. Domino is Domino, with or without her skin.

Nolans Joker was completely visually different from both the comic and original batman version. Yeah he shared some visual motifa, but some consider him the best portrayal of Joker despite this.

Deadpool proves you wrong though. You know, they very same movie we are talking about. He was a 1:1 representation and blew everyone's mind.

If they use the current actress and put make-up on her to give her white skin yeah there would be major issues, I can already see the Neo-Gaf threads. If they had casted a white person there probably wouldn't be an issue, they could have gone for comic accurate. X-Men related movies have a problem with doing comic-accurate though. Except for the Deadpool movie which is why this outfit is a disappointment.

Honestly if their casting choice prevents them from making the character look like the actual character, I think they should probably go with someone else.

Deadpool 1 nailed this so well with Deadpool and Colossus.

I do wish her hair was more like the one she had in the Deadpool video game

Deadpool kinda flopped on the villains a bit but all the good guys were very comic inspired.

That doesnt mean that should be the rule though, nor does it mean that painting her skin white would make her better.

Deadpool worked because of the writing and Reynolds acting. His look was probably the last bit of him that you think about. The writing makes Deadpool, not the costume.

People are flipping their shit now. Not necessarily in this thread but in other places.

If a black man was cast as Joker or a black woman as Harley, I think the same conversations would be had about whether to paint their skin white.

It's not like they went and offered Zazie the role like it was nothing, she auditioned for the part, and was better than the other contenders

I think that's what's more important then being 100% accurate to the comics

Because Deadpool is 85% personality, 10% ugly makeup, and 5% generic white dude. This equalling 110% Ryan Reynolds. (Pulled this straight from the deadpool recipe book)

Domino is actually probably easier to cast and casting decided Zazie was the best fit. I'm no expert but this is probably a combination of rising popularity from a recent comedy drama show, beauty, affordability, and personality. I don't know, I'm not the casting director. That being said, once chosen, there is no way they would ever do a 1:1, so they found a creative take that, in my opinion, looks pretty awesome/refreshing.

Am I wrong?

Audiences were able to accept a giant metal man though?

To be fair, that's a character they've seen at least 3 other times by now and being so ridiculous he was left to only comic relief. No drama at all.

Not to pick but you did say ALWAYS disappointed ;)

Deadpools looks were a huge aspect (They basically broke the fox rulebook). Not saying Domino won't be awesome but seeing as how hard they wanted to bring the comic to the big screen, the direction they took with her is odd because it doesn't represent the comic at all from an appearance stand point. They even got colossus perfect when Xmens Colossus was terrible.

In a movie that is basically all offensive jokes, painting a black woman white isn't a stretch. They pushed lots of boundaries last time.

While i agree his design is amazing but also different he still had the visual cues that clearly showed you its the joker (green hair, chalk white face, red lipstick, green/purple clothes).

Right and so does this Domino. Leather outfit, marking over her eye. Just no white/pale skin.

Yup.

If they cast a Joker, and didn't give him any of those things, I'd be annoyed as shit. I fault no one who is fan of the character for being disappointed that she isn't chalk white, unless they're disappointed 'cus they're racist assholes.

I think if the eye marking was more pronounced and more visible it was be more impressive. Add more blue or color to the suit and it would bring it alive more.

I'm sure the acting will be just fine. I also feel confident that the movie will be great.

But I still would have preferred the character to look more like the image I posted, simply because that looks much closer to the actual character. Had Domino been black in the comics and they casted a white woman and made her not look like that comic book version I would be saying the exact same thing.

Yeah a leather outfit like all the other Brian Singer X-Men and a marking over her eyes that looks more like the phantom of the opera.

Domino has a distinct look while here we have just a splash of color in someones face.

I always hate when they change completely the character, that domino is the total oposite of the comics domino in the looks. This has nothing to do with race.

But its Fox here , they love to do this xD

2/3 distinctive traits isn't great. And it's more like 1.5/3, because Domino distinctly has a black circle over her eye (not beige). Then that's ignoring the short hair she's most commonly depicted with.

So, like, 1.5/4 traits.

It's a fine design, you could even think it's a better design, but it barely looks like Domino.

This is a damn good post. Maybe I'm just excited because Zazie was killer in Atlanta and that's why I think she'll kill the role.

Man I'd laugh if she knocked it out of the park so well that they Samuel L Jackson/Nick fury domino in some alternate reality arc just to see how the comic world reacts.

I like it. I think that her comicbook-look would have worked quite well on film, but this design is just as good.

But if she already has visible armpit-hair, they could have gone all-out with the afro ^^

And thats like your opinion. But Dominos always had leather in the comics.

And I would say this is a distinct look. Splash of color? Honey, she is color with a splash of white.

Heh... Actually a tiny bit disappointed.

Will need to see in motion.

I won't say disappointed, and I get what they were going for, but it's just not that flattering of an image.

I have faith.

More pronounced? It's visible as hell lol

It's no longer the focus, it's something I'm a little tripped up by as well.

Her hair is now the vocal point. I also wish the eye marking was a little lighter.

Thanks for the summary. She was just another gun toting sidekick last I saw her. Her powers sound just like Longshot's though.

Sort of. He's more similar to Scarlet Witch actually, but there's definite strong similarities in concept.

Found this on Reddit. Figured since we have veered into the skin color I would share it.

The eye looks much better here, no reason they couldn't have that still.

As for the skin, it's not needed; I really wouldn't hate that direction if they went it just because I'm a stickler for page to screen accuracy.

Gonna be honest, I dont know Jack about comics and came away from this pretty dissaponted. I thought it would be a photospread of Deadpool with a dominos pizza...

This basically did happen with David Jaffe's remarks about Kratos.

He said that his pick for an actor would be Djimon Hounsou.

Who cares if he is African? The character is covered from head to toe in white ash.

It wasn't generally black people upset about the idea of putting a black man in "white face" but rather the cries of a bunch of racist white folks angry about black people stealing a white man's role.
