Phil Harrison at e3 2006 for Sony:

Frankly, I'm amazed that we can [sell the PS3] so cheaply.

"What we have in addition to a great game system is a Blue Ray player, a network platform, a new controller, and HDD in every system combined in an unbelievably compelling package. And frankly I'm amazed that we can do it so cheaply.".

I fucking love this guy, every time he opens his mouth another awesome thread is created here.

Again, it's exactly the same as the statements from Sony exec's in the 2005-2007 period regarding Blu-ray and "the power of the Cell" etc...

I really hope they snap out of it soon, but unlike Sony, MS have never proved themselves as a corporation that listens to the consumer.

It is. And you would think that there would be atleast one dude at MS that's like "hey, guys, the shit we are doing is exactly what we exploited with Sony last gen."

But I guess not...?

"We're over-delivering value against other choices I think consumers can get. Any modern product these days you look at it [and] $499 isn't a ridiculous price point. We're delivering thousands of dollars of value to people, so I think they're going to love it when they use it."

Oh, so that is why it costs $660 where I live, makes sense. Who am I kidding, Don, you don't care where that is.

Who was at EA when all they did was make the same sports games each year?

Don Mattrick.

Who was at Microsoft when Xbox 360 was the best console of the three and offered unprecedented support for games?

Peter Moore.

Am I the only one seeing this?

A big part of the Xbone value proposition is live TV + gaming.

At E3 Microsoft focused on games and I'm sure they will be some showing off some more exclusives at Gamescom and TGS, but they will likely also reveal more around their TV focus. I'm sure Microsoft will advertise heavily around it's TV capabilities (remember the $400M NFL deal and Spielberg Halo TV series). I'm sure there are more TV deals to come (recall rumors of MS executives meeting with Hollywood executives at E3).

Again: he is just saying, albeit not awesomely worded, that they offer great value...

Which you can discuss... but isn't that strange to say if you sell something...

This insanity has brought together so many good quotes.

I honestly think "you'll want a second job" has been topped, now. Thanks, Don.

That's very 2006 Sonyish. I talked with a MS manager at E3 and he kept telling me the same things: they're really convinced (or very good pretending it) that they've got the best value. I'm sure, if things remain the same, early 2014 they'll scramble as crazy to change their policies and pricing. But they've got access to surveys and analysis too, so they could be induced to change their minds before then.

Right, 499$ is not enough for your crap box that is inferior to the 399$ competition... TAKE MY 2.000$! PLEASE, otherwise I feel like I cheated you!
