Don Mattrick "We're over-delivering value"

Looking at these Facebook pics, as well as everything else like Youtube, Twitter, and Amazon, I'm now doubting when people say "the Xbox will be fine." This is awfully reminiscent of what happened to Sony. I'm not saying the Xbone will fail (it won't), but it looks like it's going to be handily outsold by the PS4, initially anyway. I mean look at all those fingers.

And poor Eduardo...

OMG

I was worried that the XBox One would under-deliver value, but thanks to Mr. Mattrick my fears have been allayed.

Thanks, Microsoft!

$499 is what most expected to pay for next-gen consoles before the announcements. It seems like Sony may have undercut Microsoft at the last minute (despite what Sony said about their pricing being fixed, there were murmurs at E3 that it was a last-minute decision).

According to Forbes, the Xbox 360's launch price of $399 would equal $475 today when adjusted for inflation. And even Kinect 1 was not cheap - estimates of a $56 BOM were apparently far too small (former Xbox 360/Xbox One audio engineer).

Well, now that you post it a second time I guess 499 isn't so bad.

I don't think so tbh. Sony has learned its lessen and I think the 399 price tag was set quiet early. The hardware was the thing that was tried to fit into the budget (see the 8 GB GDDR5 stories), instead of altering the price to fit the hardware.

I just know Jeff Gerstmann said he heard from someone on the show floor that $399 was decided upon in the hours between the MS and Sony conferences.

Look at you, so excited to spread the gospel of MS that you post the same thing twice.

I honestly don't think the $500 price point is too high considering the life span of a game console in comparison to a $800 ipad with the life span of 1 year before the newer model has replaced it. That said, I'll be getting the PS4 first and then seeing about an XB1 later on down the line.

I also think when customers see the displays/kiosks in the store for Xbox One and PS4, they are going to see what the machine can do, not what it's taking away from you. I feel that MS' list of "can do's" is going to dwarf the PS4's list. Now, if Sony wants to go the marketing route of "Look what our competition is taking away from you.", I don't know if that's the best thing to do. It works in gaming forums and E3 where the majority of people are gamers and are really passionate about these issues, but will the general public really care about the drm/used game/internet functions when Apple/Kindle/phones function in a similar fashion? I don't know.
Agreed 100%. I also think once stuff like Titanfall lands a whole lot of the internet are going to go quiet about this kind of stuff.

There was once a game console, in a time of high priced hardware with fancy DVD players and Harddrives, that strove to powerful and cheap with the idea that it was "all about the games." It was easy to develop games for, and a comfortable controller to boot.

It was the Gamecube, and it sold poorly.

The same Titanfall that is coming to PC? Ok.
I'm sure that people won't be amazed by the PS4 launch titles as well.

Come on, $499 for an Xbone when the PS4 is $400? Good luck.

He also said it was publishers that dictated Microsoft's new anti consumer policies when it wasn't, it was a mainly Microsoft orchestrated show. Publishers have indirectly confirmed as much, as did CBoat.
