Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze - Dixie Kong Trailer

Playing through DCKR on 3DS. Have to say its pretty challenging and enjoying it. Kinda of a bummer that they went in the direction of only playing DK though. I always loved Diddies mobility. Also preferred the old krok army, don't understand why they didn't just mix them in with tiki people. That's like removing goombas and koopas...oh Mario 2. Anyways. Still loving the hell out of it.

Yeah, keep pushing that waggle to those 4 people.

I'll play on my Gamepad, thank you very much!

someone missed jungle beat...freaking great game.

Their polygon budget is taken up a ton by the backgrounds. You can only throw so many polys into DK until he doesn't need anymore (which they've hit). The backgrounds in this are absolutely amazing.

As I have my earphones on and listening to the music clearly, I can confirm that this is some damn good music

I like how the dynamic camera can seamlessly change perspective during mine kart levels. It looks more cinematic, and now you can switch between left and right tracks too. While the sequel is going to be quite familiar to DK:C Returns, it looks like there's just enough ideas thrown in to keep the sequel feeling fresh.

OMG that fire level looks so good!

For all of Retro's talk about wanting to return to DK because of all the leftover ideas they had in DKCR, this is the first level of the game I've seen that looks to deviate at all from stuff we already did 3 years ago.

I really want to be excited for this game, as I loved the hell out of DKCR, but so far it hasn't had too much of an impact. Show me more stuff like this, Nintendo, and I just might be game.

Well, Retro ultimately felt that if it was going to do a DKC game, then it shouldn't try to completely copy what Rare did. The enemies in the first game were kind of dull for the most part, but at least the sequel seems to be an improvement.

As far as Mario 2 goes, that wasn't a real Mario game to begin with. It was Doki Doki panic that Nintendo just replaced the original playable characters with those from Super Mario. It's not like Nintendo removed goombas and koopas from it because they were not originally featured in the game.

I must avert my eyes from too much footage, though from what brief bits i've glanced at in these demos i'm thinking they got the names for Alpine Incline and Aqueduct Assault the wrong way round judging by the appearances.

Likewise here. But of course, DKCR was incredibly awesome. So knowing I'm getting more of that is enough for me!

Regarding the trailer music, I guess I''m one of the few who wasn't that impressed with it. In fact, it's pretty hard to believe it's David Wise's...

None of his distinctive synth style (nor the unique, timelessly hummable melody structures) seems to be there at all in any of the DKC: TF pieces I've heard so far, and it's disappointing. Part of the draw to his music in the DKC 1 & 2 games was the ambient electronica style that lent a truly unique, not-quite-of-this-world atmosphere to them.

The music we've been able to hear so far has all been very swing-inspired, taking after DK Island Swing from DKC1. I think we've cleanly listened to three tracks at best. Best not to judge the entire thing based on that. :P

Do we really need commented gameplay for Donkey Kong? Let me listen to the music damn you.

uh, for anyone complaining about the music, watch the new IGN gameplay videos.

classic DKC atmosphere

we also have to appreciate that it's very hard to top the soundtrack of the original DKC games. I remember David Wise saying in an interview that the music in the DKC games came from what was going on in his personal life at the time. Artists can only be inspired that way so many times in their life.

I think the dynamic camera is a great touch as well.

Waggle controls worry me. I want to believe there will be a Pro Controller option, but after DKCR I know practical options aren't necessarily a given. Have the various control schemes been confirmed?

I will definitely reserve final soundtrack judgment until after I've played the game in its entirety.

E3 booths were Wiimote/Nunchuck only as well. Gamepad is confirmed, I think, but Classic Controller Pro compatibility isn't yet.

Pro Controller = best d-pad. No reason not to include it as an option right out of the gate imo.

Right, but you said what worried you was the waggle controls, not the potential lack of Pro Controller support. I doubt they'll end up leaving it out, but I can confirm that if you play the game on the Gamepad, there are no waggle moves.

Gamepad doesn't need to be confirmed.

Why would you worry? This is a Wii U game. You will be able to play with the gamepad = buttons.

FUCKING THIS.

I was going to comment on how the graphics didn't impress me in the tralier but then I looked at the fire stage gameplay and wow, it looks amazing!
