Donkey Kong Country Vs. Diddys Conquest

I am recently playing the donkey kong series on SNES again and have to say that those two games are still amazing. Which one where better back in the days by reviews/reception?

I think diddys conquest is a really good sequel to the original. It got way more things to do (the quiz is nice) and you need 3 different kinds of coints to unlock everything. The graphics have much more detail in the sequel.

Also the soundtrack is one of the best gaming soundtracks I've ever heard.

What do you think GAF? (let's just forget the 3rd one)
 
The third one is better than the first though. The only thing the first game does better is that sweet ass intro dance DK does.

The second game is head and shoulders above the rest though.
 
I did not like the 2nd game as much as the first. I think on GAF the second game is more widely regarded as the best in the trilogy.

I enjoy just the raw platforming of the DKC series. DKC2 had too much animal character levels and other gimmicky things going on in many of the levels (wind blowing against you, etc) and other things that I just didn't enjoy.I just want to jump on platforms, and I don't need much other things going on in the levels to engage me.

I think DKC Tropical Freeze is the best. All platforming levels, with one or two mine cart levels - great boss fights, and really challenging level design. DKC:TF is the best, not that you were asking...
 
DKC2 is several infinities greater than DKC1.

Through the power of science, the correct series ranking:

DKC2 = Tropical Freeze > Returns > DKC3 >>> DKC1
 
DKC2 and DKCTF are on their own plane of perfection above other platformers.

DKCR, DKC1, and DKC3 are on a lesser, but still great, plane.
 
2 is easily the best in the SNES trilogy. Not sure why it gets put above TF but then again I haven't played it in ages. Maybe I'll plan on revisiting that game soon.
 
DKCR and Tropical Freeze are much better than all of the SNES titles, which still hold up a bit... but all suffer from to some degree of fake difficulty, poor hit detection, but also 'suffer' from some of the best music of the 16bit era, so I forgive them.

Honestly DKC3 is nowhere near as bad as everyone keeps saying it is. Is it the worst of the 3? Yes, but as a standalone game it would have been amazing. And as amazing as DKC1 was, the bossfights were an absolute joke. Every single one besides from the K.Rool fight feels like it was rushed out on the final day.

However, there is nothing that compares to DKC2. Just replaying all the stages of K.Rool's Keep and verticle theme they all have (while you climb up to save donkey kong) matched with the ominous soundtrack..


DKC2 is just... on another level.
 
Both DKC2 and 3 are much better than the first. Better level design, better music, better bonuses. Both games simply feel more complete than the first one.
 
DKC2 is the better game but I can't say I like its aesthetics so much. Still love the jungle island locales of DKC over the weird theme park world of DKC2.
 
I think all the games are really fun and well done, but DKC2 is my favorite next to Tropical Freeze. Awesome gameplay, atmosphere, art and music. I honestly feel that way about the original, too. I actually never saw or heard of any hate for any game in this series until internet message boards.

Oddly enough, I have way more issues with hit detection in Returns and TF then I ever did in DKC2.

And can you give an example of fake difficulty in the first 3?

I was listening to Aquatic Ambiance years ago and a friend walked by and said "Oh, sounded like you were watching the intro to a soap opera"

I was like.........................omg.



She ruined that song for me forever. I cant even listen to it now.

I love DKC 3. It's supremely underrated. It has wonderful graphics and an incredible soundtrack (on the SNES, though the GBA one is pretty good too). The atmosphere the game exudes is second to none.

But the other has treetop rock, forest frenzy, aquatic ambience, and the superior funky's flights theme (HIIII HIIII HUH HIIIIIIIIIIIIIYA)

Edit: and the minecart madness tune from DKC1 is also still my fave in the series
 
I actually tried playing DKC2 for the first time a couple years ago, and I stopped after a couple levels. Something about the setting or colors really put me off to it when compared to the first one...

I should probably give it another go.
 
Hell are they going to put the DKC Triology on NA V.C. any time? Doesn't Rare still own their rights or anything?

dude, the trilogy is available on the Wii U VC in Europe and Australia and has been for nearly a month, and all three games will be available on the Japanese VC on thursday.

It not being in america yet is nothing to do with RARE, it's entirely due to:

You'll laugh, but I won't watch your videos because I've never played DKC2 in my life and I don't want to spoil myself by listening to the music. (I finished DKC one month ago and it was glorious)

And I brought up Aquatic Ambience because this track is a 10/10 for me and it's hard to believe that DKC2 will top the soundtrack of the first game.

It's hard to believe, but you need to believe, son!

Seriously. There is not a bad track in all of DKC2. Not a one.

DKC2 has the best game soundtrack of all time. Prepare yourself.

I love the third one. It's very much a different feel to DKC2, but it's still a superb game with tonnes of secrets, inventive levels and themes and great bosses.

DKC1....well, I don't like it much. I think it's shockingly simple in its design compared to the other two. A lot of the levels are incredibly linear treks from A to B, and others are ludicrously unfair and based around trial and error. Whereas DKC2 and 3 offer you something new in each level, DKC1 kinda doesn't. The bonus stages have no real incentive to them either - you get bananas and a percentage added to your file. Brilliant. Nothing like DKC2 and 3 where finishing all the bonus stages unlocks new worlds and endings. The bosses are all imo terrible and simplistic too, whereas in DKC2/3 they feel like true battles, each with a unique arena and method of overcoming them.

In terms of graphics, DKC2/3 are vastly superior to DKC1. Which is to be expected, of course.

All in all, DKC1 feels to me like a prototype - a bit of a simple test before the real thing (DKC2/3). It's serviceable of course, but it's definitely a product of its age. DKC2 in particular feels timeless.

Meh, honestly its whatever. NoA has tons of good software lined up with Toad and Smash this Holiday. They can save the DKC Trilogy for a slow time and call it

Or some bull shit when they have nothing going on.
 
While I don't like any of them, I'd say I prefer the first one.
I like the Jungle environments more, it feels more "Donkey Kong"-y and honestly, I can't see why people think DKC2 is so much better than the first. They both have the same crappy collision detection which brings both down a lot. I still haven't beaten any of them but I think I've reached the halfway point in both at least.
