Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze boxart

That's some really nice boxart, but Donkey Kong's face unsettles me for some reason.

The Stupid Yet Amusing Option -- Samus Aran
OMG DKC: TF is a Donkey Kong and a Metroid game at the same time. First playthrough 2D platformer, second playthrough is a 2D Metroid and the Vikings turn into Space Pirates and Metroids, final boss King K. Rool turns into Ridley or Kraid. It all makes perfect sense.

4th character is going to be that super kong that plays levels for you.
Yeah I have a feeling the 4th character will be the DKC version of playable Nabbit in NSLU.

K. Rool as the 4th character trying to help the other kongs reclaim their island, only to end up stealing the banana horde after the final boss, leading to the secret world: crocodile isle, with the world map having a remix of this.

Whatever is in the actual game won't be as good as this, hopefully it would be better, but I don't trust Retro/Nintendo would bring back K. Rool ever again :(

Even better, what if the Kremling twist set up the entire back-half of the game similar to SM3DL. "You thought the game was over? lol, you're halfway done."

I'll admit, I'll be slightly disappointed if Crocodile Isle isn't in the game. The whole "multiple islands" thing is such a fucking tease for it. I can't even imagine how amazing it would look under Retro's art direction.

Well, Crocodile Isle is sunk. Bringing it back would have to come with some kind of convoluted explanation.

(But then again...the Kongs can go underwater this time...)

It would be such a massive missed opportunity to do some really great remixes and level designs.

We have this new game with densely packed, fluid levels and a really dynamic camera so revisiting the level themes such as the amusement park, the beehive, the swamp, the castle and the brambles would be really amazing.

Also bring enguarde and squawks back pls, water levels gives me hope for enguarde, but squawks being relegated to an item finder was a bit meh, I want to cough up nuts at wasps.

Fuck, now I'm imagining a new amusement park level with Retro Studios art. Fuuuuuuuck.

I think Brambles have to make it in regardless of Crocodile Isle, if only because Stickerbrush Symphony deserves a remix. I know it's not everyone's absolute favorite DKC2 track but I'd wager it's the most mainstream song that people think of and enjoy from DKC2.

Fanfiction time

As I've said before, Brambles and Stickerbrush Symphony would fit Tropical Freeze's secret final level perfectly. The Brambles stage theme is far up into the sky, just like DKCR's Golden Temple level theme. Stickerbrush Symphony is a calming song that would serve as a counterpoint to the ridiculous difficulty of a proper final level. And lastly, the players that actually unlock the final level are obviously hardcore and likely DKC series vets. The music and stage theme will immediately resonate with these players, whether it's a frustration and subsequent achievement of surviving Bramble Blast, remembering the gauntlet of varied challenges presented by Bramble Scramble, the final test before K. Rool in Screech's Sprint, or the most difficult section in the game in Animal Antics Dammit Squawks. It would basically be Retro saying "Yeah, we get it." and sending the game off with a bang.

Speaking of non-standard level themes, I'm looking forward to seeing what we're going to get in this game.

That mine cart level with all the burning planes and shipping crates set in a jungle was really cool to me, I'd like to see some more interesting stuff like that.

Also wondering whether each island is going to be the equivalent of 1 world in returns with 1 specific theme or if they're going to be the size of 1-2 worlds with multiple themes.

I'd love it if they just went all out and straight up doubled the amount of stages that were in DKCR, put all that disc space to good use.

I'm super curious about the number of levels in the game. The Nintendo Direct indicated that it would be 5 other islands in addition to DK Isle, so 6 worlds unless something else comes up. If the average was 8 levels per world, that would only be about 50 levels - close to 20 short of DKCR. I'd reckon Tropical Freeze has been in the oven for a good while so it will be interesting to see the extent of the game's content.

I'd be pretty pissed if there were less levels than DKCR, even david wise might not completely get rid of that sour taste.

I really hope they don't try and pull the whole "we decided to do less levels because you're supposed to revisit levels with different characters to get a puzzle piece that's abit to high to reach with diddy and DK alone".

6 worlds with 12 levels each and 2 seperate themes with a secret world more like the 3DS remake's than the original's would be good if they wanted to keep it around the same amount of levels, that means we'll get a good amount of content and 12 different level themes, which would satisfy me.

I'd really love them to just go all out and have around 100 levels though.

As I couldn't deal with the waggle controls of DKCR, for those that played it, do the demo levels of DKCTF look longer/larger than the average level in DKCR?

I hope they release a new trailer soon. Would love to see some more direct feed footage (and hear some more David Wise soundtrack).

The first level of the game looks extremely long, like upwards of 10 minutes if you explore everything. The other three levels shown look about in line with DKCR's stage length.

Is that first level the one in the wetlands, starting with DK crashlanding in the trees, then continuing along sandy shoals, past man-eating plants and grasshoppers, up and down factory lifts, underwater past coral reefs, up a rotating spiral beanstalk tree, and I think there might've even been planes and submarines in the same level (actually, correct myself from earlier, that's probably the mine cart level)? That level seemed extremely long (and FUN!). The other levels, like you said, seemed on par with DKCR. And the boss battle with the seal outclasses any boss battle from DKCR.

Planes and submarines are the mine cart stage, yes, but you described the first level. Looks like a fantastic way to not only familiarize the player with the mechanics, but also show them the wide range of fun stuff they're in for.

"Selling" a game through gameplay, who would've thought

Hahaha, that's actually pretty hilarious. Love it. I'm excited for Rayman and all, but far more for this. DKCR immediately became one of my favorite platformers ever, and I believe Retro can really outdo themselves with this. And David Wise. Oh my god. I'm going to stare at the clock with a leer for all of November.

On the topic of the number of worlds, do remember that the Kongs still have to find a way to get from island to island. Knowing that, one of the worlds could be entirely underwater ala DKCR's caves. (Another could be a factory world set inside a giant-ass Viking submarine.)

And yeah, Tropical Freeze's first level looks fantastic. When you realize how goddamn much there is to do in it, Returns' seems so lacking in comparison.

Looks good. I also don't get why the 4th character is on it though.

Retro wants a last-minute hype card. (Makes sense.)

I wish they would release a 3DS version of this game. I don't care about eventual downgrades, I just want to play it, but it buying a WiiU for one isn't really worth to me.

There's a canon?

Of course there's a can

on!

More fun Wii U boxart.

Is DK actually a robot? Look at that metallic stuff behind his eyes and the way the skin flap for his brow just sort of lays on top of the fur like rubber molding.

Also, their fur is like sleeves at the wrists and ankles. I love it.
