The redirects on mobile at least prevent me ever getting back to the page. The phone vibrates like crazy and the only option is to close the tab entirely.

Haha, if it was on my laptop I'd own up to it but I never look at porn on my phone. It was for some wrestling network so I guess I'd been looking at wrestling at some point. Probably due to the thousands of threads on Gaf on that topic.

Desktop ads are usually OK but mobile is what really grinds my gears. I tap mistakenly on those things all the time. And ironically there's no way that I know of to block ads on mobile... such is life.

a while back i used to get TWO of those shitty ads myself and had to leave adblock on, i hated that if you left your pointer like 1 second on top of it shit would autoplay in loop

filled the ad thingy from google so the problem was solved and now gaf is greenlit again

NeoGAF admins/mods should run a group Twitch Stream where subscriptions can pay the monthly server cost for NeoGAF. Subscription perks can include a golden NeoGAF logo emote in Twitch chat.

One NeoGAF show could be letting viewers watch as mods ban users for obvious offenses, all while it's set to classical music. Stick it in 'Creative' category, as commentated banning can be considered an art form. That would be a fun show.

Or maybe it could have shows which bring on developers answering questions about new releases or fan favorites.

Maybe an ad-free future is obtainable. It is still but a dream.

So blocking ads are against the rules. You get banned if you admit to using a blocker.

The majority of this forum is using an adblocker on here. I can't remember the percentage now, but it was ridiculous. EviLore also said if you're having as many issues as you are, then just use adblock.

This is on chrome iOS. I think I had issues before on chrome android.

The ad-block browser is great. I use it for a lot of causal browsing now, some sites I can't go to without it. Couldn't use it on neogaf though, can't log in. Would like to support the site anyways.

Yeah, I'm getting ads that spawn in a new tab as I browse the forum. Gad to know it's not just me. This is definitely new NeoGAF ad behavior. There doesn't appear to be any place to report them either.

I don't use adblock on GAF. And on my PC the site works perfectly, but on my phone I get redirected constantly and it's really annoying. I pretty much stopped browsing the site out of the home because of it.

I've had bad ads from time to time. Especially annoying on mobile - where it just redirects you making it impossible to report

I do block the twitter and facebook share buttons + tracking cookies. I don't mind ads, as long as they stay within their borders and don't cross them.

In a perfect world ads would just be a static image, no javascript, no flash, nothing being loaded, just a static image with an on_click_link.

I've never been redirected on mobile using the default Safari browser with no adblocking. Is this more of an android issue?

I don't get why ad providers even allow ads to use JavaScript or Flash anymore. If there's one place where static images or simple animated GIFs would be welcome it's ads. Ads should never be allowed to play video or sound or execute any JavaScript period. Just go back to the old days before embedded IFRAMEs with custom HTML and JavaScript content for ads.

At the very least that should be a requirement for neogafs ads.

Adwords requires javascript to track you (and moneytize you) so no, not really.

Adwords/Doubleclick are also supposed to pre-screen these things, but they don't do a very good job which is the cause of the problems here. There isn't a better alternative, as they have a near monopoly too. It's similar to how people sneak dodgy apps on xbox, some reviewers just don't give a damn.

My suggestion would be, when the user reports an advert it sets a cookie which disables ads for them for 24 hours. This would allow the admin team (Evillore?) time to sort out the issue, and the users affected have a way of avoiding being redirected whilst it's being resolved. Otherwise it'll just drive people to blocking ads, in which case everybody loses.

Taking donations creates problems, firstly a tier system and secondly a sense of entitlement - both of which would degrade Neogaf from what it is today.
