I can confirm that the 'Support Axe' build suggested a few pages back is really effective.

I've been going:

Items: Tranquil boots/Urn/Mek/ then either going pipe if we're trying to push in their base towers or switching to Arcane boots if the fight is still taking place out on the map.

Skills: One into Helix for jungling purposes, then maxing battlehunger as fast as possible and using it to be a massive jerk to people in lane and to chase them away while pushing their outside towers. If I don't feel I've got the mana to support it then I skip ulti at level 6 and put another level into helix instead.

Basically it lets you and your team play super aggressively and push almost constantly in the early-mid game, especially if a couple of your teammates buy arcanes (allowing you to spam hunger endlessly) and the enemy is nice enough to give you a few urn charges. You can farm up a mek in the jungle a lot quicker than most support heroes, and the amount of sustained push you get out of this build is way more effective than the traditional Vanguard/Blink axe, which never really feels useful to me.

I heard Meepo's net feels slower than in Dota 1. Dunno how true that is.

On that other note, does anyone else get an irrational rush of satisfaction when you see an incoming gank for your ally and can save them from it thanks to wards you bought and placed?

Lots of Dota-Comic Strips and Memes. Some of them are quite amusing. One of my favourites is the cooking viper "with delicious intent"

Some of these are terrible, but some of them are decent. I got a chuckle out of

Did they change the Ion Shell animation? I was spectating a game and I saw purple streams hit others whenever the damage tick. I don't think I've seen that before.

I can't get into this game. I got in about a week ago and I have only finished 1 bot game. Who should I start with having played other games like this? The fov is also very strange. The camera is pulled back more compared to LoL, but you seem to see less because of that ugly UI they use.

So far the game feels really amateurish.

It's been like that for as long as I can remember.

Tons of info in the OP.

With all the words that can describe Dota 2, this one is by far the furthest from the truth.

Lich. Lich. And Lich.

If I keep playing him at the rate I'm going I'm sure eventually I will be the best Lich player in the whole world!

Oddly enough, Lich is the guy I finished a game with, so I suppose I'll stick with him.

I'm not saying it is, but something feels really off. I dunno if it's just my dislike of the Source engine, or what.

"WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU PLAYING THIS GAME IF YOUVE NEVER PLAYED IT BEFORE"

I've been told this... in a game vs bots. The 0-12 Night Stalker also told the team to report me 1-7 QoP (and some other guy) due to being noobs after losing that match LOL.

I still remember my first game back before invites were being handed out and pretty much the only people who had the damn game were pros and lucky streamers. I had some streamer busting my balls and a teammate yelling at me. I told him I was brand new, and this was my first match.

"Then why the fuck are you in my skill level?!"

i wasn't sure how to respond to that

Went 0/9/7 as Meepo. I see his potential, but he's not for me. My god, so many missed earthbinds. First Dota game in a month too, maybe not a good way to get back into the game.

"Vlad’ was Vladimir’s Offering, an item I’d bought with the gold I’d earned so far in the match. Gold trickles in at a steady rate to your personal stash, but big bucks are made by either killing human opponents, or by ‘last-hitting’ creeps: applying the finishing blow to get an extra cash bonus."

Big surprise that he bought that item first.

Sounds like he was intimidated by the fact that you have to learn about the game before you can be good at it.

a hell of a lot cleaner than it used to look. i've never had an issue with it, though. gets the job done plenty well

Lich Build

Skills

1.) Sacrifice
2.) Frostblast
3.) Sacrifice (or you can switch lvl 2 and 3 skill around)
4.) Frostblast
5.) Sacrifice
6.) Ultimate
7.) Frostblast

After this upgrade Ice Armor, Frost Blast the next time it's available and your ultimate at levels 11 and 16. The last Sacrifice upgrade is up to you when you want to fit it in.

Items

Starting Items

Branch x 4
Tango
Observer Wards

I dont have the time to search for a map right now to show you where to place Observer Wards, so either you will have to look them up somewhere or maybe someone here can help you out on that. But it is your responsibility. It's your responsibility all game long. But hopefully someone else helps you buying them along the way. Early game you want them up high over where the Runes spawn.

As far as the branches go, they are not just there to help your stats early game. These are part of other things you will be building later on.

The Observer Wards last 6 minutes. Sometimes you will have to put off buying them to buy something for yourself, like the boots of travel. (See below) But you should have enough gold to complete the magic Wand and buy more observer Wards before the 6 minutes is up. Or close enough to it.

[/b]Items you are building[/b]

Magic Wand (3 of the branches are going to this) See the last 2 part to buy here
Boots of Speed (It's up to you what you later build with the boots. I recommend phase boots or power treads. But either way this upgrade comes much later)
Mekansm (last branch is going towards this. Buy Headdress first.)

Magic Wand will absorb enemies magic use for you to use to refill your heath and mana. Very Handy early game.

Mekansm will boost not only your health, but any teammates health around you. Very handy and a great boost to your teammates in team fights. Time it's use well. Dont just use it when everybody is only missing 10% of their health.

Next you are either going to upgrade your boots to Phase Boots or Power Treads, or start building your Aghanims Scepter.

http://www.dota2wiki.com/wiki/Aghanim's_Scepter

The first part of the Scepter is important because it will give you a huge boost to both your health and mana. That's the Point Booster. Buy that first when you are building your Scepter. It's 1200 gold and has to be bought at the Secret Shop. All the other parts are 1000 gold and can be bought at the fountain.

How you play Lich

You should be playing the hard lane with Lich no matter which side you are on. Heres why.

Early game you are going to help your team out tremendously with Lich by stunting the growth of the other team. That's what the Sacrifice is for. Right from the beginning of the game start using Sacrifice on your creeps. Use it every time it comes back up. Preferable on the melee creeps since they give your opponents more XP. Together with Denying Creeps (click A then attack your own creeps right before they are about to die) you will steal a lot of XP from the opponents in your lane.

Now the reason you are going to play the hard lane (Bottom for Dire, Top for Radiant) is because of your sacrifice ability it will not be the hard lane anymore. Between using deny and sacrifice you are going to pull the creep line (where creeps meet up to fight) from the opponents side and move it back to your side. Try to keep it balanced right about the river. Any further back and the your tower will attack the creeps and mess everything up. Your tower will obliterate the opponents creeps and that will end up moving the creep line back towards the opponents tower. It's a balancing act you will have to learn. If the line is getting moved back to your tower start using A + attack on your own creeps to balance out the fight. Takes some getting used to but you can see how this helps your team out. Reduces XP that your opponent gets early game plus it takes what is normally a hard lane for your team to play and moves it back to a safer spot that will reduce the chance of getting ganked.

Harass the opponent heroes with Frostblast when you can, but be careful and dont get caught out. If they kill you then you aren't getting XP, you are losing gold, and you aren't in lane to keep them from getting XP.

Play this well and you and your in-lane teammate will reach level 6 way before your opponent. Now they're fucked. You both have your ultimates and they are stuck at level 5 or even lower and you are ready to take them out and their isn't much they can do to stop the two of you if you are working together right.

You will have to feel your way through the mid to late game yourself. Try not to be on the opposite side of the enemies in a teamfight. I know it feels like you are flanking them and helping, but really you are too soft to survive on that side. Play from behind or alongside your teammates. Spam Frost Armor on them. It;s mana cost is cheap enough to keep spamming it.

I'm sure I missed some things here so hopefully some other people will pitch in on what I missed or got wrong.

Probably people who don't care about wins/losses and who wanted to spend their time playing a real game and not a gimped 4v5?

nope. they tried to reconnect, as they thought the game didn't count. they were like, "my bad..."

Unless the game is functionally over at the point where we could just make one more push and end the game when the guys disconnects, why would I want to stay and played a gimped game?
because it still takes effort and you still get a win or loss? I don't even understand the question. If someone disconnects giving YOUR team an advantage in a match that's going to count, why would you--someone on the team with the advantage--leave on purpose? At WORST, you can get some practice in and a slightly easier win. If the other team isn't in a rush to disconnect with their disadvantage, why would you be in a rush to disconnect? I've seen plenty of 4v5 victories for the disadvantaged team, so to suggest it's "gimped" isn't always true either. You're trying much too hard to defend stupidity. They weren't paying attention, left a game that counted, tried to reconnect and ended up causing a loss for the entire team due to their negligence. No more and no less. If you were stupid enough to leave a match that counted under those circumstances, I'm about 100% sure I'd never play with you again unless through the magic of matchmaking. I can't handle that level of idiocy or willingness to simply quit when the chips are UP.

LOL. I remember you messaging me about this. Good times :3
I'm still mad about it when I think about it. Fucking tards. "oh I thought it didn't count...." derp.

You don't have to play the hard lane with Lich especially if your team has a good jungler and a good solo hard lane hero e.g. windrunner. In fact if you can babysit your carry I would say it's far better to go on the safe lane and stack and pull at the right moments for your carry to get optimum farm. I always level up frostblast first in case the other team is looking for an early gank because it gives a good amount of dmg and slows them down. If a squishy enemy is playing too risky the frostblast can even work to get an early kill. The few extra sacrifices you get at level one can easily be done by denying.

Around 10-15mins you have to start prioritising boots of speed over anything otherwise you are just going to be the support that always gets caught out. If my team has a lot of mana dependent heroes I will go for mana boots just to give them a boost. After boots of speed if the money isn't coming in then you have to keep a set of wards on the map at all times so basically there can be games where you're not getting anything. Also aghanims may not always be the right luxury item to go for depending on the team you're playing. I usually go for sheepstick or shiva's just because your ult can easily be tanked and rarely scales well into the late game.

I don't understand the review, nor do I understand why they're reviewing it so early. There's still a ton of features being implemented, the most sought after being tutorials. This sounds more like a blog post than a review.
That's pretty much what everyone is saying even in their comments.
Hell, even some self-professed "LoL addicted" or "MOBA haters".

Hehe.

That review is pretty weird, 3 pages of complaining about 1 guy who was flaming him, then giving the game an 8.5...

That PC gamer review was....quite something. Seems to me that the only way to review that game is to have a noob play from now until the official f2p release. Or, with about 200 hours under their belt.

Before then, I don't know if one has enough experience to comment on the overall experience, though one can review the technical work itself (soundfx, multiplayer systems, graphics, UI, spectating features and functionality, multiplayer quality) inside of the first 20-40 hours.

The article seems to spend most of its time talking about 1 match and 1 heckler caused by not following the suggested items. Idk why it was even written as anything more than an diary post in a "misadventures" blog leading up to an actual review.

ban meepo from pubs 4 ever pls
Low-skill players selecting high-skill heroes is my favorite shit ever.
