Dota 2 Beta Thread 2: Real Talk Discouraged [Magnus, Teams, 6.75b, 150+ Shop Items]

The deeply uneven nature of playing pubs in basically every competitive mulitplayer game is part of why I tend to stick to bots in most of them.

It's part of why I stuck to UT2003 for so long---since so many modern shooters stopped giving me the option of playing bots.

Just got my invite from Steam into the Dota 2 beta!

Now, I know very little and have never played .. are there any good beginner tutorials out there that I should read / watch?

I believe this is the one people usually refer to in this thread. The OP has some helpful stuff in it too, although some of it is a little out of date.

I refuse to believe that Morphling and Lycan aren't overpowered.

They're not. They're just flavors of the time. Lycan lost all games I've seen so far in pro games besides 1 game from Navi yesterday, but they won that with Dendi Pudge.

Morph has been losing more lately too, so he will fade away as well, already seeing him less.

I hesitate to call any hero overpowered, since the level most of us play at, even those people who are really quite good, is so much lower than the level of the best players in the world.

No, seriously, you can't tell me morphing through stuns isn't utter fucking bullshit, as well as a damaging blink, AND a way to teleport out with NO CHANNEL TIME. You can't even solo gank him with someone that's made for solo ganks, just because "lol morph to strength during stun, lol waveform". Pyrion Flax's video on him explains this pretty well, but does leave out some details. You make that cross-river Pudge hook on him and you even have a 3 level advantage over him? Nope, doesn't matter, HE STILL FUCKING ESCAPES.

And Lycan, don't get me started on Lycan. Everyone always comes up with these ridiculous strategies to stop him, but all of them have the caveat of "But that only might slow him down slightly, you're still probably fucked regardless." He gets almost any level and gold advantage at all, it's already over, there's nothing you can do by that time unless he's a complete idiot, which is funny, because even a complete idiot cannot possibly fail at playing Lycan. He has a "GOTTA GO FAST" ult that can't be slowed. TA traps? Nope. Viper Strike? Ha, that's cute. 13423432 stacks of Sticky Napalm from Batrider? Nope, still doesn't give a fuck. He has a BKB, you can't even chain stun him. The only counter in the game is the Naga Net, and if you didn't pick her, well fuck you then!

This is the game where I just faced both of those asshole heroes. Ursa and Nature's Prophet are no problem for me anymore, I know how to handle those two, despite how much they stomp pub games.

The problem with Lycan is that in pubs people won't go out of their way to stop him. Same with Ursa. He is ignored until he's farmed and then the tears start flowing.

Just because you lose against them doesn't mean they're OP. If the enemy team picked Faceless Void instead of Morph, you would complain about the bullshit backtracks he does, how he chainstuns you with time lock and how he blinks away with time walk, while killing your entire team in chrono. You just don't see FV picked at the moment so suddenly he's not there anymore.

I don't remember people bitching about Morphling last year, all that's changed is getting extra stats from leveling Morph.

You're 4/10 with 18 last hits in that screen, you should focus on improving your own game rather than just blaming imbalances. For Lycan just play someone like Beastmaster and keep your Hawk over the Rosh pit and gank whenever he tries, or take a stronger (early) jungler and go into his jungle.

I'm only 18 CS because I couldn't farm because he harassed me out of lane. What the fuck else am I suppoesd to do? 4/10, gee, with a losing team what did you expect to happen? 36/0 Pudge?

Maybe play something other than Pudge, why not try these broken heroes and stomp people, should be easy right?

All Pick - The bullshit game of "Everyone waits til past time to counterpick each other, so the best strategy and the worst strategy is to either instalock or have a premade and a plan"

Morphling so stronk he has no counter. You've picked Pudge in a third of your games, time to change it up.

play single draft. in all pick everyone jumps on the broken heros / heros they know how to play well. in single draft you're forced to try new people. i love single draft :]

I used to do that, but I kind of got burnt out of it due to shit choices (For the love of god do not make me play Bloodseeker, I cannot play him for some weird reason). I may go back to my usual SD/RD only rotation. I sometimes do those.

My easy 'pubs-dont-know-how-to-deal-with-this' Lycan strat is to just buy 4 wards and go crazy in their jungle. Or just go constantly ward the easy camp - lycan is slightly weak at farming lvl 1 so you force him to get fucked up at medium camps. In the radiant jungle you could even ward every single camp with 4 wards.

The cost of those wards is worth any outcome. He goes in lane, or he waits in jungle doing nothing, or he trys harder camps and has a slower time, or he spends money on counter wards (but would most likely have to wait because he spent all his money at the beginning).
Then you ward/check rosh all the time.

Honest to god most pubs (from medium tier down) don't know how to deal with this early on.

Or keep stealing his last hits as bounty hunter.

In all seriousness, what is the Morphling counter? Almost everything I can think of is STILL countered by Morphling.

Sven - Morph during stun, lol waveform. Get off scot free.
Venomancer - Your DoTs mean nothing for my morphed strength
Earthshaker - Fissures don't mean shit
Naga Siren - Maybe, but you have to have Na'Vi levels of coordination to set something up with that. Something pubs don't always have.
Sand King - Morph strength and laugh again
Templar Assassin - Oh no, woe is me, I'm slowed by a trap, WAVEFORM
Broodmother, Enchantress, Chen, and anyone else with extra units to body block with - Waveform gives not a shit nor a fuck
Ogre Magi - Maybe if you smoke and happen to get some Ogre Magi x4 bullshit going while he has his strong pants down, but as long as the Morphling doesn't go full Agility, he can still just waveform and morph as soon as the stun is over. The slow doesn't even matter.
Queen of Pain - Again, you have to blink in on him and catch him with his strong pants down, but she has no stuns and after that blink is on cooldown, good luck.
Leshrac - Split Earth + Edict + Ult, but even then all he has to do is survive the Split Earth stun
Invoker - EMP will help a lot obviously, but Morph is only 20 per second, and assuming Morphling has some good mana regen on him, he can make that back quick enough to start stacking up the Strength.

I could spend all day going through the hero list. I still believe Morphling needs a nerf.

So, why does Pudge needs a Hood when he already has a passive ability that gives him magic resistance ?

Because most of the damage he takes comes from Rot, which leaves you a sitting duck after a fight if you're not careful. It's part of why his early game consists of a bottle, urn, and rune-to-rune gameplay.

Also I've found pushing with Rot is pretty nice too, and having a hood helps it be much less detrimental to you.

Morph is an escape carry hero, if you're only attacking him 1on1 on late levels you won't get him no. So listing heroes who can't take him 1on1 is kinda pointless. Necro ult is good on him if he's str morphing btw.

So, why does Pudge needs a Hood when he already has a passive ability that gives him magic resistance ?

It stacks, and since he takes damage from his own (magical damage) rot, that damage becomes less and less.

Attack him early 1v1 gets you the same effect though. He just has to skill Waveform and Morph and can tell Adaptive Strike to fuck off until later and he's good to go. I could see Necro ult helping though.

I've had plenty of games where we did this, and he STILL balls out of control regardless. It seems to work on Ursa just fine, Ursa and Nature's Prophet aren't a big deal to me, but for some reason Lycan is.

Viper counters him pretty well, nether toxin does % damage

Also, if Bloodseeker is considered bad, why does he stomp pubs so often? I don't get what we're supposed to do special against him to stop him.

I have no idea why I can't play Bloodseeker either. It looks so easy, but I cannot do it for some reason.

Because Rupture is anti-fun and has a high burdern of knowledge.

I was actually thinking of that LoL dev comment when I typed that post. Seriously though, I feel like in 90% of Rupture situations I get in, it's "Run, you're fucked. Don't run, you're still fucked." TP out? Ha, you just used one trying to help your team defend this tower and this Bloodseeker towerdives you all the way to your T2 and still survives it.

Meanwhile my Ruptures are just "*rrrrip*....why aren't they running scared? Oh, they're safe, I can't dive them at all, of course."

strong ranged carry beats pudge

big surprise there

and if you complain about all pick, then don't play all pick, go play sd/rd/cm then

So self inflecting damage still has to go through armor/resistance and other hero buffs.

huh, interesting.

Well since Bloodseeker has no escape whatsoever,... Ganking him is the most viable option I suppose
