I'm diving into a backlog of epic proportions this holiday season. Among the titles I never got to when it came out was Double Dragon Advance.

What a fun throwback to the good ol' days. Despite the smarter enemies, tougher difficulty, new levels, and spiffed up visuals, it still has that old-school feel. For some reason, I just love a 2D game that lets me beat up on people with whips and baseball bats.

Can't believe how many moves are in the game. Jesus, every button does something, as do most button combos, and then factor in crouched vs standing vs enemy down vs jumping. Lordy!

Good stuff.

I got it a few days ago for only $9.99 from Amazon.com, thanks to someone mentioning it in a post in this thread from The Next Level.

It's a darn good version of the game! The music isn't quite as good as the arcade, but the visuals are beefed up a bit, there's a lot of new moves and combos you can do, and some new enemies to spice things up.

For $9.99, you can't go wrong!

Indeed, I too bought my copy from Amazon. $9.99 is the GBA sweet spot!

I liked it okay, but I still prefer the pacing and slowdown of the arcade version.

Neither this nor the disappointing RCR on GBA had legs for me.

Yeah, in terms of lasting value, I see DDA ending up on the shelf soon. But for now, it's pleasant. I'm sure I'll also come back to it once in a while for kicks.

I adore RCR for GBA, but, I also adore RCR for NES, and that's basically what the GBA game is (with crappy save system and slightly enhanced graphics/story).

Both games are good for what they are -- enhanced homages to old arcade / NES games. I wish Million had been more ambitious with regards to modes and presentation in both games, but ah well. (How about a Double Dragon collection, eh?)

Double Dragon Advance makes me feel like I've sauntered up to an arcade machine back in the late 80's, albeit the gameplay is a bit more complex now (so many moves, smart CPU A.I.). We used to pour quarters into games like this. In that regard, the $10 I paid for it feels like a steal!

And hey, seeing Abobo so apologetic and wussy in his cut scene is the stuff. Abobo FTW!
