Premiering on YouTube Red
Doug Liman is maybe best-known for The Bourne Identity, Edge of Tomorrow, and the forthcoming Justice League Dark, but in 2008 he helmed Jumper, about a young man whose teleportation abilities make him a target for religious extremists. The story was intriguing, and though the film got mixed reviews, Liman’s going to tackle the sequel.

But it won’t be a big-screen feature, and it won’t star Hayden Christensen, the erstwhile Anakin Skywalker whose action-movie career was the biggest casualty of those Jumper mixed reviews. (Meanwhile, co-star Samuel L. Jackson escaped completely unscathed.) Instead, Impulse—based on author Steven Gould’s follow-up to his Jumper novel—will be a series produced for YouTube Red, with Liman handling the pilot alongside writer Jeff Lieber (Lost). It follows the teenage daughter of the protagonists of Jumper (played by Christensen and Rachel Bilson in the movie), who also has teleportation and has been raised in relative isolation for her protection.

I know someone who hates Jumper to hilarious levels.

I know at least one fun movie to go with them in the future.

I swear to god so do I. I remember seeing Jumper and thinking it was a fairly Ok way to spend a night out. Not groundbreaking by any stretch but I don't know how anyone could get pissy with it.

Years later me and a friend were talking about Hayden post SW and Jumper got mentioned. His reaction was on par with

The original is still one of my favorite ways teleportation has been done in a film; shame it was wasted on such a bad one. It would be pretty cool if this new series is actually decent and gives us a cool teleportation story.

Its weird watching Jumper and realizing all the other great action movies he's made. I wonder if it was a major learning experience for him or there was some other fuckery involved because while the premise of the movie was great the execution was pretty bad.

Jumper was one of the most frustrating movies ever because the concept was so solid but literally everything else was abysmal. The villains were five billion times cooler than the "heroes".

Everything about that film was terrible.

From the protagonist going "I used to be a like you - an asshole" and using his gift to basically shit on the wonders of the world, to the antagonist who's whole motivation is "Only God should be able to be everywhere at once" which is dumb because Jumpers can only be "anywhere" at once.

Since when do the members of this forum thoroughly read the OP?

EDIT: On topic, I'm interested as I thought Jumper was actually a pretty cool movie, but its execution, script, and cast was awful. I pretty much saw it as something akin to "Heroes", and with the project in the right hands, it's possible they can give the premise some justice. Looking forward to this web-series, but remaining cautious until reviews come pouring in.

What a strange project to greenlight.
But somehow two successful tv-shows were birthed by the Buffy Vampire Slayer movie so anything is possible...

I thought the original was ok tbh, I always wanted a sequel that would build on the concept.

I haved failed my ancestors. I skim-read the summary and was focused on the father of the protagonist apparently being "played by Christensen".

So NO Hayden Christensen? Box office bomb confirmed.

"Jumper" is the rare movie that was so bad it had me physically shaking with rage. Liman redeemed himself but that film... Jesus, what a crock of shit.

I actually really dig the first one. I'm surprised at how hated it seems to be here

Just like when I found out how reviled the PT is online.

IIRC the first movie was made as a potential franchise starter but the plans died after J1's performance. Someone must have been committed to keeping the dream alive.

I thought Jumper was decent. The concept itself was basically a recipe for writing yourself into a corner yet it still managed to provide some interesting backstory/lore with the setting, complete some good action sequences even.

Wouldn't mind seeing another one.

It's being released on YouTube Red, unless you meant it'll still bomb there as well, (which is likely).
