How are you guys able to get up to 3840x2160? I'd like to downsample for older games but I keep getting a message that this resolution is not supported by my display in the nivida control panel. Any way to get around this?

I tried this on my GTX 275 but it fails at the first step.
I get the "Test failed. Custom Resolution 2560x1440 at 60 Hz (32-bit) is not supported by your display" (Native res is 1920x1080p)
Not sure if this happens due my GPU or my monitor. Sure the GPU is old, but if it's my monitor, I'm going to get sad that I can't use this method even with a GPU upgrade.
It's connected by DVI and scaling is set to GPU
I have been able to set the higher resolutions and they pass the test on my new monitor, but when I load a game, I am not able to select the resolution. Any ideas on why games are not reading the resolutions?
Wow! At first I tried this res and got a black screen but then copied the timing from that screenshot and now my screen just came up OK and nvidia control panel passed the test! Very interesting! Time to test this out with some emulators Thanks scitek!
Guys....3840x2160 works as far as getting it to display, but two problems:
1)It chops off the bottom portion of the windows screen, elimination all of my taskbar, system tray, etc.
2)My PC is connected to a Yamaha Receiver, then to my front projector(which has a native res of 1080p), but when doing 3840x2160 I get no sound at all. Nividia's HDMI out speaker icon is changed to the normal windows icon.
Can you tell me what I can do to resolve this? 3200x1800 is working fine by the way, and does not suffer from either issue.
Hey guyz,
I'm trying to downsample Mirrors Edge with my 660TI. It seems to be working - though is it normal that the menus look like shit!?
Corky,
I have a BenQ W1070 which is a native 1080p projector that can also do 3D at 144Hz (if that even mattera). Would I be able to down sample using the method you have outlined with this projector? It is connected to the pc via hdmi.
Has anyone tried this with a 7xx series card yet? I'm getting a GTX-770 in the mail next week and am curious.
Shouldn't be different from any other Nvidia card.
I have been downsampling on the GTX 780 just fine, it was exactly identical to setup as any other Nvidia card I have had. I can't get 2160p / 4k in games, though, seems to max at 1800p I'm on a 1080 Toshiba TV and it works fine for my desktop but just black screens when I try to load in a game.
I am sure this is a product of the TVs limits and not the card's, however.
Just started trying this downsampling trick on my 780 and so far, I'm able to get games at 2560x1440 running fine but when exiting back to the desktop, I get stutters and freezes for a few seconds. Does this have something to do with the resolution switching back to 1920x1080 or something else? Seems to only happen when running a downsampled game then returning back to desktop.
Will this decrease my FPS at all?
It seems 3600 x 2025 is the closest i can get to 4k res,
screen refuses to display an image even at only 30 hz
Loving the downsampling and basically eliminating Aliasing but damn, having to choose between running at 120Hz or 60Hz is difficult, first world problems.
Thanks for explaining this stuff, it's easier than i originally thought it would be.
For those getting stuck at 3600 x 2025, have you all tried the settings in post 411?
Question: If my display is native 1600x900, what resolutions should I try testing?
Also, for Dark Souls, what corresponding changes do I make in DSFix?
