Man republicans really want that black candidate. Anything to get that black vote I guess.

Marginalize minorities...but want the minority vote, so you can continue to marginalize minorities.

I will admit it's a great strategy because there will definitely be a segment of people who vote for him just because of his skin tone.

Didn't really work for Lynn Swann when he ran for Pennsylvania Governor in 2006.

However many black votes he would gain would be vastly outnumbered by how many white votes he loses.

Not gonna happen.

"Gentlemen, we have found a successful black man with conservative inclinations. HE SHALL LEAD US."

- Republicans
The GOP has built their entire minority-outreach strategy on two big myths: first, that traditionally Democratic-leaning groups are driven by identity politics, resentment, and entitlement above all else. This is a party that still believes that Obama got where he is by being black, remember? Palin, Steele, Rubio and Cain are all examples of this strategy in action. The second myth: that these same groups simply haven't heard or don't understand conservative principles. The voters heard 'em loud and clear: the problem is the message, not the messenger.

Every single bit of evidence shows that blacks don't break party lines significantly at all when the Republican is black.

The few black Republicans in congress like to champion themselves as proof that conservative blacks are bigger in number than people think, but every single one of them is in a district that's heavily white.

I keep wondering whether the GOP trendsetters watched Being There and took it as a useful instruction manual for finding a Man of the People type candidate, or if they've never heard of Being There and just keep stumbling into the plot because the see themselves as real life versions of Ben Rand.

Why does liberal gaf even care? As long Obama runs out the clock and isn't in power during the next meltdown, Hilary is going coast in.

Can't see him as being a candidate at this point, but he's certainly at the top of any Republican's imaginary surgeon general list.

Anyway, given recent history, it is nice for conservatives to see someone who can make some of their arguments articulately besides Newt:
National Prayer Breakfast speech
CPAC speech

Republicans want that Hispanic vote, arguing that the Hispanic population is really conservative/Republican at heart. After getting stomped in the last election, they're all steadily jumping aboard the "immigration reform" bandwagon, because shitting on such a large and growing minority group to appease insecure racists is no longer paying off. Marco Rubio will probably be their frontrunner in 2016 with immigration being a central focus. Opportunistic assholes, all of them.

I find it hilarious that the GOP thinks that just because they have a minority candidate that the minorities will vote for them *because* they have a minority candidate.

"See?! SEE!? we have black guy! You black guy. You vote for our black guy because you both same color! derp!"
