Dragon Age III influenced by Skyrim

Nope. They even scaled the comparisons to being a spiritual successor to BG down with Origins once the game was close to coming out at the end of 2009. They made those BG comparisons a lot early on when it was still a PC only title slated for early 2009, before it was delayed.

I don't think official marketing really ever brought up Baldur's Gate when talking about DA2.
Well, it's not marketing (unless you count Laidlaw as some type of salesman which isn't much of a stretch tbh) but I did recall this gem shortly before the masterpiece was released where they were boasting of the game's literary prowess:

Depending on what Bio claim to be learning from Skyrim, this would seem to clash with their voiced protagonist/cinematic "style" they're currently pushing in all their games. Regardless we see a lot of things trying to be something else or conform to some cash cow template rather than standing on and refining their own systems, as we saw with DA2 inheriting several systems from the Mass Effect franchise. Tears soon followed from Bioware when it turned out people didn't like the way they're turning all their franchises into similar experiences so they're likely going to try to copy- no, "draw inspiration from" something else to compensate for it - sadly the game they chose to be their influence is the wrong one and will conflict with the promises of a BG successor that initially brought in much of their older audience.

I expect very little of this and surmise that conflicting expectations and desires of what various subsets of their audience want from the franchise will continue to plague it for its lifetime and to top it all it seems even Bioware doesn't know what it wants to do with it beyond a desire for vast sales.

Oh, I think this is more subtle marketing than it is actual direction, but what do I know?

(ie, relate your game to a game that is/was very popular).

Im curious to see what Bioware comes up with for this installment. I still like Dragon Age if only for how much I liked Origins.

That, and there are no real RPG's really on the horizon right now. (sadly).

Broken on PS3?

Should have been influenced by Dragon Age: Origins instead.

And this should have been the first post so we could shut the thread.

Dragon Age III influenced by Skyrim's sales.

I'll add that this is something fans of the original did not ask for, their last game does horribly for not being enough like the first game so they look to a game thats nothing like it for inspiration and are proud to say it..sure EA, sure.

This is why neogaf is the best thing ever, warts and all.

Honestly, I would much rather it be influenced by Skyrim than Dragon Age II. So I guess this is a good thing, even though I didn't enjoy Skyrim very much. But I enjoyed Dragon Age II even less.
