Dragon Age: Inquisition | E3 2014 Coverage

I will never understand people who complain about level caps and want them removed from games, even when there isn't the content to support it.

I want to know if the PS4 version will be 1080p/30 fps. They've been so quiet about the console versions...
Seems like a guarantee anyways, it uses Frostbite yet doesnt have half the amount of shit going on as BF4. The graphically far more ambitious W3 will run at 900/30.

Question!!!!!!!!!! Have they showed any facial customization yet? I'm excited to see how that will look on the glorious frostbyte 3 engine!

Nothing, just that it's the best they've done, or so they say. CC is next on my list of desires after quality combat vids demonstrating the new systems, specifically for PC.

On Xbox One.
If W3 can fun 1080/30 on Ps4 I see no reason that this shouldn't.
Honestly considering it's cross gen I wouldn't be surprised if it runs 1080/30 on One and 1080/Unlocked on Ps4 but we'll see.

Other than parity bullshit with last gen I don't see why DAI can't be 60fps on at least PS4 if not One since BF4 reached that often, though not perfectly, but again the engine should run better now on consoles than with BF4 and DAI isn't nearly as intensive in the ways BF is.

I don't see the issue. They are often hard to achieve, even by completionists, plus it's good to have a framework for the balance of the game. Especially since they've stated that there won't be any level scaling of enemies.
I don't think they're that hard, since I hit the max in DAO and probably DA2, but I can't recall since I don't have it installed.

This game will likely have some sort of online component but I wonder if it's a full-fledged multiplayer mode or something social, like Assassin's Creed Initiates (which might fit into the Inquisition planning its strategy from the keep.)

Maybe the scribe character is related to the multiplayer part and that's why she's under wraps still.

Have there been any videos of the Iron Bull talking? He looks so cool and is definitely gonna be a mainstay in my party. But I'm kinda nervous hes voiced by Freddie. Not a huge fan.

Honestly when you watch the video it's amazing the range he's displaying.

Also, the Raptr Q&A has started if anyone cares to make a new thread. A lot of the answers are being posted to BSN as well.

Weird, I thought it was starting at 10am PDT/1pm EDT. New topic might be worthwhile to let people know it's going on right now if they want to hop into the QA and ask some questions, but personally I'd just post a new one after it's all over and people have compiled all the good info from it for all to see.

That would be better.

Works for me. In the meantime:

Q: Any chance that Bioware will show off the new Character Creator before release, to give fans a peek at who their Inquisitor can be?

BioWare 10 minutes ago
There is a chance. We will see. We SHOULD do a video at least.
- Mark

Since we were talking about the CC earlier.

Q: Does the Inquisitor's backstory vary greatly depending on race/class? Will a human mage have a similar backstory to a human rogue?

BW: The reason you are where you are as well as opportunities in the store will be affected by Race/Class

Cool that they will be sort of working the origin into the intro.

Q: Will cross class combo make its return in DA:I?

BioWareDAIElite in Dragon Age II19 minutes ago
yes

Excellent. Cross-class combos were by far the best idea they came up with in DA2.

Some answers:

Qunari don't wear helmets and have a different head slot.

Mounts don't currently increase carrying capacity.

The number of bald Biowarians may or may not be linked to the number of hairstyle options previously offered. They're trying to get more.

Advisors cannot be in your party.

There are no Griffins. In other news, pre-order canceled.

There are a lot of lip options in character creator. No body type options, though.

Anyone ask about modding support? :p

It's been asked on the BioWare forums a lot, and nothing has really changed since these answers:

Gaider: There are currently no plans for a toolset (that I'm aware of, anyhow), but beyond that I've no idea how mod-friendly DAI will be (meaning how easy the native files will be to alter). Certainly we're very aware that PC users like to use mods, and that the existence of mods extend the life of the game on PC.

Schumaker: Well, contrary to what many do think, BioWare (a company that has released two games with toolsets) *does* recognize the types of benefits that can come with the availability of said toolset. We also recognize the costs associated with it.

It's non-trivial, and there's a lot of extra challenges and dependencies that we make use of that complicate things, unfortunately.

I mean, on the plus side, some of the third party stuff that was in earlier Frostbite builds is now being done by in house EA tools (since that evolution still has advantages to us), so it may become more feasible. I wouldn't bet on it for DAI, unfortunately.

It probably didn't help that our release of the DA Toolset wasn't without its issues as well, which helps solidify concerns and potential costs.

QA started up again with Laidlaw and Cameron Lee answering question. Nothing really interesting yet. Stuff like experimenting with how long of hair they can put it and more or less the same stuff we've heard already on crafting being template based, not recipe. So you can make a hilt and blade separately and then combine then and use different materials to change its stats and what not but retain the same look.

That's nice about the crafting. I always hate having to drop a great looking weapon due to poor stats for one that looks plain.

Yeah I'm expecting a lot from it, but I need to keep my expectations in check. Crafting has never really been very deep in any BioWare game.

Another tidbit from the QA:

Q:But my question is will people react differently to you because of your classification?

A:I see what you're sayin', yes, and there are instance in the game where your specialization affects the story. Not necessarily all of them, but some!

--Laidlaw

Also this is quite intriguing on a number of issues:

The Inquisitor will regularly be referred to by his or her surname, yes. Bonus: There are things very much like skills that act similar to the persuades from Origins, but they're acquired and work a different way. There's no levels, just different areas of knowledge. -Laidlaw

Was wondering if the MC would have a surname or just being referred as inquistor. Any bets on her/his origin (Orlesian)?

Someone has been playing Shadowrun Returns. Those persuades sound a lot like the "etiquettes" there.

I assume you get them either during some quests, or as you expand your control on castles/towers. Perhaps even related to the scribe character?

VA for all Inquisitors:

American male - Jon Curry (Zevran from Origins)
American female - Sumalee Montano (Nyreen from ME3 Omega dlc)
British Male - Harry Hadden-Paton
British Female - Alix Wilton Regan (we already knew this one)

Yeah this intrigues me a lot. Could be any number of things, from actual lore you pick up from about the world through exploring to actual bonuses/rewards you get from conversations, quests and certain choices, to your prestige with the Inquisition.

Q:What were your main deciding factors when choosing to have the Tactical Camera return versus leaving it out completely? Did you decide to aim for the audience that will enjoy and use that function; or was it the fact that it was in DAO and you believed it to be a core function that every upcoming game needed?

BioWareDAIElite in Dragon Age II7 minutes ago
It is designed to be another tool in your toolbox. Not a must use (except at the hardest difficulties) but available
- Mark

BioWareDAIElite in Dragon Age II6 minutes ago
More that for a party based RPG that has a focus on tactical combat, the tactical camera was critical for us to get in for Inquisition.
- Cameron Lee

So that's nice to see them say that the hardest difficulty will require Tactical Camera use. That gives me hope they put some time into balancing the various difficulty settings.

Maybe the advisors can teach you specific bits of lore that could come up in certain situations?

Will companions have their own unique specs like in DAII or can you assign them the same specs that players could chose from a la Origins?

BioWareDAI They have a Spec based upon their unique story. Consider Cole... - Mark

Only one specialization per playthrough for Inquisitor, as well. That could be good, as I found the specializations in DA2 to be underwhelming with not enough points and too many trees. If they commit to really fleshing them out and producing a nice distinct feel for a Templar as opposed to a Reaver I approve.

The Inquisition base is also sounding like a Suikoden castle with a whole bunch of things to do and people to talk to. How many days left until this game? Ugh.

Thank God. I was going to be really disappointed if there weren't unique specializations again.

That always bothered me in Origins where your Warden had a unique surname based on your Origin story, yet no one ever called you by it.

I find myself really turned off by the art direction in this game. Everything seems like too much of everything.

I basically agree. Granted, its not like Dragon Age has ever had a great art style, with Origins being pretty generic and DA2 just having jagged, harsh right angles and spikes on everything. Inquisition seems a bit more like a mix between Origins and DA2 but its still a bit too chunky looking for my tastes

They said they will be referred to by their surnames. Too lazy for a link, sorry.

And yeah, David Gaider was very interested in Shadowrun, particularly their dialogue system.

Also, no New Game Plus since they are focusing on having post-game areas for a given playthrough: "We've even built specific regions that are so high level you'd only want to tackle them after the main story."

Cassandra and Cullen straight romances.

Q: You revealed the surname of the human Inquisitor, would you oblige us with the rest?

Fan response:

The official last are on the dragon age wiki.

Human- Trevelyan

Elven - Lavellan

Dwarven - Cadash

Qunari - Adaar

Bioware response:
That's not tecnically "official" but it is correct. I made sure the names in the saves we showed at PAX were accurate, because I'm good like that. --Laidlaw

Nothing wrong on using creative ideas from other games in yours, if it improves it. And NG+ is not something that I associate with DA. Have they said if there are plans for major story DLCs?

And more importantly, what's the meaning of this?
In other news, pre-order canceled.

Can you please name at least 1 bisexual romance option?

BioWareDAI I can't.....because you don't know her name yet. --Laidlaw

In other words, Scribe Girl most likely.

That is some bullshit. The hype up gryphon's as some amazing mounts for greywardens in origins, full well knowing the fact there's no mounts in the game, fast forward to DA I yay mounts still no gryphon's. The fuck why?

Because they're extinct. They were already extinct in Origins. Also, they would be flying mounts and there aren't flying mounts in the game.
