Dragon Age: Inquisition Impressions from EA Access Trial

I think I restarted DA: Origins 3 times because I started to dislike my character, lol. Wouldn't mind if bioware gave you an option to adjust your looks a little a few hours into the game.

Sunset Overdrive did that shit right. In your options, you had the full choice to change your face/body and literally everything at ANY TIME. Game totally embraced customization. I wish more RPGS would do this. There is nothing worse than creating a character, and then getting 5 hours in and realizing you don't like how they look. Also, character creator isn't always accurate with how things are going to look in the game (due to lighting and other factors). My first character in Inquisition had some blush on their cheeks. In the character creator it was light. In game, they looked like a clown.

I also hate when games make it DLC, or some convoluted way (deep in the game), to finally change features. Just make that shit in the options.

I present Crimple...the Archer!

I get too hung up on trying to make myself look like, well...myself.

I've been importing my face in FIFA for years; other games need this!

In DA2 there was the Mirror of Transformation (was a DLC) which let you reset your appearance in-game, but Bioware said that while they're thinking of implementing something similar with DA:I, it's going to come after launch. Probably going to be awhile unfortunately if they end up actually doing it :(
Ah, that's too bad, but at least are they thinking about it (and hopefully the DLC would be free)

Yeah, I wish more games did that. Though I can understand why Dragon Age wouldn't let you change your gender or race deep into the game, (that would probably affect too much stuff), but just changing hair styles, face etc. should be no problem at all.

Yeah, gender I get (because of romance options being locked in, and effected by gender). But I don't understand them not allowing you to make tweaks to your looks. It doesn't impact anything else in the game.

Any conclusion about whether gamepad or mouse/keyboard is the preferable option?

Well, I'm assuming keyboard will always be better (hot keys etc.) But the console version has a pretty good hotkey system that maps things to X/Y/B and L trigger lets you switch to the next things on the fly. I haven't had any issues quickly jumping to my skills. It's pretty slick. And given that this game has gameplay focused on pausing and mapping out your attacks, I find it acceptable.

That said, I guess having to hit L trigger to get to the next menu might be annoying in a really hard boss fight. But again, I imagine in a fight like that, you will be pausing anyways to get shit sorted out. So it wouldn't be problematic.

Hello,

About the progress, will it be possible to use it with the retail copy of the game or just with the digital version ?

Thanks

Interesting question. I don't know how save files work with these games. I know the trial version is the full game, just with a limited license. And if you buy it, it just adds a full access license to your trial version.

But since you want to buy a retail disc, I'm not sure if the save file carries over? I think it would?

Tweaked a default face slightly, gone with the deeper voice too. Much better.

It's hard to do voices right...

"Death to you all!"

And...

"Heh, time for a bit of rough and tumble!"

Ugh I want this game, but don't have an XB1 or PS4. Will the 360/PS3 versions even hold up at all? They will be fine right, side from a graphical downgrade? Nothing like stripping the Nemesis system that I heard about for SoM on PS3/360?

Its ok. Not feeling it right now but that's just because I am noticing a lot of small issues, glitches in the animations, feet sinking below the ground, the dwarf model is actually as tall as the human when it comes to geometry(hits lights about 3 feet above his head in the basement of the town), the archer firing the opposite direction and his arrows going through him to hit enemies and so forth. It might just be because I picked that character. Also lots of issues with textures, little bits of popin and stuff. PC wont have them I am sure though.

Was watching your video at lunch today, man, that poor dwarf bastard! A face only a mother could love, but lots of personality.

I think he looks kinda like Picard's clone (or whatever he was) in ST: Nemesis.

Hahah. You mean Tom Hardy's dude Shinzon? Oh man too true.

I guess Crimple does a bit too

Haha. Ya Crimple is a man of action and has a face to prove it. I love making guys that are just messed up and then giving them quarks and this dudes got them!

Yes, the only difference will be the visuals. (maybe some load times?)

Other than that everything else is the same.

I hope there is some comparison shots between PS4 and X1 before launch. There is a lot of press/reviews. Has Digital Foundry not done a face off? Will they before next week? I don't see why they wouldn't given this is out there for the press.

For those that are playing a Mage character. Can you please remind me what talents do you get first? Guess is Barrier and Energy Barrage?

Also, how soon you get the option to respec your talents?
Playing on hard and some of the mobs are already getting pretty challenging (especially those templars with shields, ugh}. Not sure if there is an xp bonus for playing on a higher difficulty though.
Think devs said that you get nothing extra by increasing difficulty (because that would make the game easier). Which I personally does not agree with it.

I'm kind of thinking they have their hands full trying to make sense of the AC Unity face off right now. We never usually get a face off before release though right?

You get an acheevo.

That to me makes it all worth it.

Here's me streaming 1st hour on Normal as Warrior just to get used to it.

Tactical camera works fine on console. Up and down on DPad to select char (same as in real time battle), move cursor, use button to give command (A is attack, others are skills) and use RT to advance time in mode.

A few times I feel like I couldn't properly target an enemy on a ledge, but I wonder if the chars I was using to target was too far out of the battle to reach them.

Weird to see their ambient occlusion isn't working as it should. I see light bleeding into their nostrils and mouths. Gah, I can't stand that.

Game itself looks good. Think I'll stick to PC version though.

Ya there isn't AO or its messed up.

I just did part of my walkthrough and experienced a heavy set of bugs including my characters all being unable to move ever requiring a reload/quick travel. I have noticed in all videos the charters sink into the ground a fair bit...a tiny bit disconcerting to get those bugs that quickly.

Intentional? I think so.

One of the male elf face presets (it's either #3 or 4) looks exactly like Glenn Howerton/Dennis Reynolds.

Sociopath elf Inquisitor confirmed.

So I just finished my 6 hour trial of the game

and my opinion shifted from not feeling it to loving it

after I unlocked some of the Evasion abilities like the dodge and others I began to really like playing as an archer.

The world is massive .. I spent like 20 minutes fighting some buffalo in the snowy peaks

some gripes

The hair options are kinda lacking , I wish there was a bodytype slider thing or choices like in Sunset overdrive or in Dragons Dogma (elves are a little to frail and there heads are huge)

I don't like armor restrictions by class

anyway im excited and will buy the game soon not sure If i want the reg edition or the deluxe edition though
